Just one short week ago, Motorola took to the stage in New York City to talk about the DROID RAZR HD/MAXX and RAZR M. While we don't know much in terms of pricing and release information for the former, the latter just became available on Verizon's website and in all retail locations.

For those who may be unfamiliar with the RAZR M, it's the littlest brother of the RAZR line, packing similar specs to last year's cutting edge namesake in a much smaller form factor:

  • 4.3" 540x960  display with "almost no borders" and Gorilla Glass
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB storage, microSD card slot
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • 8MP rear shooter
  • NFC
  • 60.9 x 122.5 x 8.3; 126g
  • 2000mAbh battery
  • Android 4.0.x

The RAZR M marks a new high for "budget" devices, as the device only costs $99 with a two-year agreement.

This morning, Verizon announced it was launching a brand-new mobile security app for Android. It's called Verizon Mobile Security. Catchy, right?

Fact aside that like most mobile security apps the "malware and virus protection" feature is basically worthless unless you're visiting Chinese / Russian warez sites on a regular basis, this app does bring one thing of value to the table: remote track and wipe (for $2 extra a month, $1 a month if you have a Verizon Equipment Protection plan). Which, it's fair to note, Avast will give you for free, with an app that does other useful stuff.

And that doesn't look like this:

But, if you're an unwitting Verizon subscriber, there's a good chance you might be interested in this, if only because Verizon puts it out.

Looking to switch up your carrier situation? Today might be a good time to look into doing just that, as Amazon Wireless has put the AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon versions of the Galaxy S III 16GB (any color) on sale for just $99 with a new 2-year agreement (upgrades are not eligible).

deal

But seriously, don't buy the red one. Please.

You can see the eligible phones here (the 32GB models shown are not part of the deal, unfortunately). You'll notice T-Mobile's Galaxy S III isn't included, but that's probably because Amazon doesn't sell it in the first place. Here's a full list of eligible models:

All things considered, this really is a great deal on what is probably the best Android smartphone (at least for most people) currently available.

LG-Intuition-B

Do you like phones that look like they've been through a taffy puller? Then the LG Intuition (aka Optimus Vu) may be the phablet for you. The Intuition for Verizon was announced last week, and is available officially starting today, though Wirefly has (as usual) managed to offer it at a slightly more reasonable price: just $150 on contract (new agreement or upgrade). That's $50 less than Verizon is selling it for, so there's no denying it's a deal.

There is denying, though, that you might actually, you know, want this phone. I suppose the one thing you could say about the Intution is that it's definitely a, uh, conversation starter.

BriefMobile has received a screenshot this morning that would seem to confirm the existence of a Verizon-flavored Galaxy Note II, rounding out the phone's appearances on each of the US's "big four" carriers.

Last week, we saw the device leaked for T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T. We had figured, at that point, that Verizon wouldn't be getting the device. Particularly because it's selling the LG Intuition, which is the Note II's one and only phablet (shudder) competitor here in the US.

The screenshot shows the model number as SCH-I605, SCH being the Verizon prefix for Samsung smartphones.

In the form of some additional possible confirmation, a quick search of Flickr yielded one image taken by an SCH-I605, though it's just a blank shot.

I just got back from New York, the city of absolutely no internet, and now I can finally tell you about my experiences with the new RAZRs - the DROID RAZR HD 4G LTE, DROID RAZR HD MAXX 4G LTE, and DROID RAZR M 4G LTE. (My shift key is going to get a workout today!)

The design and construction of all 3 phones is basically the same. A stitched Kevlar back with a rubber coating, a plastic body, and an industrial-style design with exposed, prominent screws. Just imagine an original DROID RAZR MAXX with screws embedded in it and you are most of the way there.

If you were under a rock (or at work) while Motorola was announcing its three new phones today, you might have missed out on the live video presentation. Now you can watch it on YouTube.

If you're looking for the nitty gritty, though, you should check out our announcement posts for the RAZR HD / MAXX HD and the RAZR M.

Verizon is presently announcing its brand-new smartphone lineup, and they've started with the DROID RAZR HD, and its MAXX sibling.

Both are sporting 4.7" SAMOLED Gorilla Glass displays, but Motorola says they have the same size footprint as the original RAZR, which is pretty impressive. The S4 Snapdragon dual-core processor powers these devices, and they will run Android 4.0 out of the box. Motorola, however, has said both will have Jelly Bean before the year's end. They will be available "before the holidays" according to Verizon.

Here are the specs in a slightly more readable format, at least what we know of them:

DROID RAZR HD / MAXX Specs

  • 4.7" SAMOLED HD 720p display with Gorilla Glass
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor (most likely MSM8960 Snapdragon)
  • Android 4.0.4
  • Verizon 4G LTE
  • 1GB RAM
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 16GB (12GB usable) internal storage for HD, 32GB (26GB usable) for MAXX HD
  • 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
  • microSD slot
  • 2500mAh battery for RAZR HD, 3300mAh for MAXX HD (21 hours talk time, 10 hours video streaming, 27 hours music steaming)
  • NFC-enabled (no mention of Wallet)

Other than that, there isn't much to know - Moto was pretty scant on details.

Motorola unveiled a trio of new handsets today: the Droid RAZR HD, RAZR MAXX HD, and RAZR M (too much caps lock, Motorola!). While the first two focus on large 4.7" HD displays, the latter is all about packing as much display possible into a small shell.

Specs:

  • 4.3" 540x960  display with "almost no borders" (is this the bezel-less device that we've been hearing about? Let's hope not) and Gorilla Glass
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB storage, microSD card slot
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • 8MP rear shooter
  • NFC
  • 60.9 x 122.5 x 8.3; 126g
  • 2000mAbh battery
  • Android 4.0.x

While we would like to say this device is shipping with Jelly Bean, Motorola stated that it will be updated "by the end of the year," so...

Three short days ago, we heard that Verizon could be launching the behemoth LG Intuition - America's version of the Optimus Vu - beginning on September 6th. Looks like that leaks was pretty much dead-on, as Big Red just officially took what wraps were left off of this oversized monstrosity.

Available online from September 6th and in-stores on the 10th, the LG Intuition packs a massive 5" 4:3 display, 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear shooter, 1.3MP front camera, and Android 4.0.

Trying to take a page from the Samsung Galaxy Note, the device will also ship with a "pen" of sorts, called the Rubberdium pen, which is basically just a standard stylus and doesn't feature any sort of enhanced functionality like Samsung's S Pen.
