Verizon Offers VMware Virtualization On DROID RAZR M And LG Intuition, BYOD Is Just $125 Away

Using a work phone and a personal phone at the same time sucks. That's the motivator behind the Bring Your Own Device ("BYOD") trend, wherein employees use their own smartphones for work-related tasks. Most people do this anyway, but it can become a real problem if you're working with sensitive data. That's where VMware comes in. This company specializes in virtualized PCs for remote access and security, and after years of development, it's expanding into mobile with Android. Too bad it's only available on Verizon at the moment - and only on two mid-range phones at that.

VMware's Horizon Mobile solution works like this: your company sets up a default mobile workspace, complete with apps, security measures, and even a wallpaper if they want.

Verizon Moves Up Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch To May 23rd

Verizon certainly likes to take its sweet time getting new phones out there, but this time it's at least making an attempt to speed things along. Big Red has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available a week earlier than previously stated. May 23rd is now the big day.

The Galaxy S4 has already launched on the other big US carriers, and AT&T has even announced the availability of a 32GB version of the device. Verizon is late to the game, but it's probably going to push this 5-inch 1080p smartphone hard. Verizon's 16GB GS4 will be going for $199.99 with a new 2-year agreement (after a $50 mail-in rebate).

The Droid DNA may not have Boomsound, Ultrapixels, or other HTC-branded buzzwords, but it's most definitely the best HTC device you'll find on Verizon right now. And if you're dead set on not paying more than a fifty spot for a new phone, the DNA is your ticket to a high-end smartphone that won't break the bank - , so long as you're willing to buy directly from HTC.

It's pretty rare that we find the manufacturer of a device selling its phones cheaper than, say, Amazon Wireless or Wirefly, but that's exactly what HTC is doing here with the DNA.

Last to the party as always, Verizon is finally pushing Android 4.1.2 to its version of the Galaxy Note II. This update also brings some Samsung enhancements like a proper version of multi-window, along with overall bug fixes and enhancements. Overall, it looks like a pretty good one for Big Red's note-taking behemoth.

That pretty much covers the gamut right there. Given that the support document was just updated, the new build should begin rolling out shortly, so keep an eye out for it.

Hey Pantech Breakout owners - your phone's about to be a little less Verizon-heavy, a la an otherwise small OTA update that should be headed out to your device in the next week or two. Software version CA66.F.BB removes VZW Apps, Verizon Video, Rhapsody, and Blockbuster from your device, mostly because they're all totally useless! There's an Android security patch bundled in here, too, and an update low memory notification string. OK.

As I said before, you can expect the update to roll out, most likely, in the next week or two.

A month later, Google introduced a product called the Galaxy Nexus, and it had Google Wallet, and Android lovers were, once again, thrilled. A few days after that, Verizon announced its own version of the Galaxy Nexus. There was yet more thrillilation.

Some of the thrill was short-lived, though, as it was discovered that Verizon's version of the Pure Google Experience™ would not include a pure Google Wallet experience. In fact, it lacked a Google Wallet experience of any kind.

Hey guys, I know that when you hear "Rezound" and "OTA" in the same sentence your first thought is probably "Jelly Bean!" Hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but that's not the case. It's just an update that enables global roaming and does a lot of other petty stuff.

See? Let's Golf 2 was updated! Skype was made gooder! Visual Voicemail now show the correct amount of notifications! All cynicism aside, I'm sure someone, somewhere can appreciate something in this update, as minor as it may be.

The support docs were just updated today, which usually indicates an OTA is in its final stages of processing and should begin rolling out shortly.

While Galaxy S4 pre-orders are already well underway for most other carriers, Verizon joins the party today – fashionably late as usual. You can get the 16GB version of Samsung's newest flagship on the country's largest provider of LTE for $200 – but you'll have to wait until May 30th to actually get the device in your hands. That's basically a full month later than most other carriers. Par for the course in Verizonland, though.

If you can handle the delay (or just can bear the thought of leaving Verizon for another carrier), then you can secure your GS4 below. Keep in mind, however, it looks like the 16GB version is the only one available right now, as the 32/64GB versions are nowhere to be found.
