Android 2.3.4 Update For The US Cellular HTC Merge Is Now Ready. Goodbye, Froyo - Hello, Gingerbread

HTC Merge users on US Cellular, your day has come. Forget about Froyo, aka Android 2.2, and zoom straight to the latest version of Android available for non-Nexus phones - 2.3.4 "Gingerbread" (HTC version 3.10.573.1 to be exact - the image below taken from the update guide is outdated).

The update will need to be applied on a computer using HTC Sync and will wipe your device clean of emails, contacts, calendars, apps, bookmarks, and any other personalization - it'll basically be back to stock.

Motorola Photon 4G Is Coming To US Cellular Under The Name 'Electrify' For $199 Later This Month

US Cellular just sent out a presser for the upcoming Motorola Electrify, which is basically a rebranded Photon 4G minus WiMax. There's little doubt that this will be US Cellular's flagship device, as it's far-and-above their current highest-spec'd device:

  • 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • 8MP rear camera, VGA front camera

US Cellular's Samsung Galaxy Mesmerize Gingerbread Update Now Available

US Cellular released an update today for the Samsung Galaxy Mesmerize that brings a number of enhancements to the device, including Android 2.3.4. For those unfamiliar with the Mesmerize, it's a Galaxy S phone packing some modest specs:

  • 4-inch 480x800 Super AMOLED display
  • 1GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 2GB storage
  • 5MP rear shooter, VGA front cam

With the addition of Gingerbread, Mesmerize owners will be able to rock all of the latest-and-greatest that Android has to offer, including improved power management, speed and UI enhancements, more control over running processes and applications, a better keyboard, and a lot more.

Chitika: Verizon Losing Android Market Share, AT&T And Budget Carriers On The Rise

Chitika released new Android market share figures today by carrier, and the results are somewhat interesting. Verizon, who previously controlled over 50% of the market for Android smartphones, has dropped to almost 40% over the last five months. Who's to blame? AT&T and small budget carriers, apparently (US Cellular, MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile).

U.S. Cellular Goes 4G LTE, 25% Of Customers Will See It Before The Holiday Season

Today, U.S. Cellular announced that it would be bringing 4G LTE services to about a quarter of its customer base in certain areas of Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin before the holiday season this year. Some of the cities that will be included in this initial rollout are Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine in Wisconsin; Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport, Iowa; Portland and Bangor, Maine; and Greenville, North Carolina.

US Cellular is really proving itself to be the carrier for holiday shoppers not wanting to spend a small fortune on gifts, isn't it?
