T-Mobile G2x Receiving OTA Update V21y With Stability And Wi-Fi Calling Improvements

A few days ago, LG made available the V21y update for owners of the G2x. Users were delighted - though the update wasn't major, it did seem to bring some notable additions, according to this unofficial changelog:

Update to Android 2.3.4
Built-in Google Plus capabilities
Swype 3.26.92
New RIL and baseband (dated March 11, 2012)
Improved battery life

However, the update was pulled shortly after, though those who'd managed to grab it found it quite stable.

Fortunately for other G2x owners, T-Mobile and LG made the 30.5MB update officially available again this morning, along with a changelog of improvements they thought were worthy of a mention:

Random reboot/power off fixed
Device stability improvements
Wifi calling improvements
Boot-up fixes

The V21y update is rolling out OTA until May 14th, at which point it'll migrate to LG's website as a manual download for those who haven't received it for some reason.

[Rumor] Is the Samsung SGH-T879 T-Mobile's Galaxy Note?

It's pretty clear that many consumers are interested in the gargantuan Galaxy Note. Unfortunately, it hasn't seen the same kind of mainstream success as the Galaxy S2 because only AT&T has had access to the device. But according to FCC filings and a user agent string obtained by TmoNews, T-Mobile is preparing a device that multiple pieces of evidence point to being the Galaxy Note.

First off, we have the screen resolution: 800 x 1280. It's possible that this could be a refreshed version of the Galaxy Tab, which features the same resolution, but it is most likely still the Note because it is listed in portrait orientation and is listed in other documents as a phone rather than a tablet.

An Android phone is like a Leatherman Tool. It does a lot of things - without a doubt, a triumph of function over form. Android is the world's most versatile mobile operating system, the most tweakable, the most adaptable, and the most fully-featured. It just does more than any other comparable product out there. But if Android is a Leatherman, the iPhone is the basic Swiss Army Knife - compact, simple, iconic, and good enough for the vast majority of people, even if it does do a little less.

Building on that analogy, Android users, even die-hard fans, actually look at their phones more like tools.

[Updated] Video: T-Mobile Launches First Brand Re-Launch Effort With Carly's "Alter Ego" Commercial

After the infamous attempted AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile (also known as the biggest failure in telecom in 2011), the latter has apparently been working on restoring its image in the eyes of consumers with a complete brand re-launch, due this fall. The first step - a new Carly. We know the old Carly in a magenta dress showing off her long legs, but the new Carly is going to turn into this bad-ass Ducati rider. Alter ego and all that jazz. Here, check it out:

I think the new direction is great - Carly in leather biker gear zooming down the streets of Magenta Town has "speed" written all over it (if you can call HSPA+ "speed" nowadays).

[Rumor] HTC One S Possibly Hitting T-Mobile On April 22

If you're waiting for the One S to hit T-Mobile, a new piece of information just hit the scene that may be of interest to you. This particular piece of information clearly shows the release date for the device: April 22.

You know the drill with this sort of thing, though: this is just a rumor and it could change at a moments notice. With that said, this leak appears to be pretty official, so it looks like T-Mo is pretty dang close to getting its first HTC device with ICS (if the Amaze or Sensation updates don't roll out first, that is).

T-Mobile Announces Ice Cream Sandwich Updates For The Amaze 4G And Sensation, But Gives No Other Details

Good news for T-Mo customers with either the HTC Sensation 4G or the Amaze 4G: ICS is coming your way... sometime in the future. T-Mobile just updated its support documents for each device stating that they will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's just not sure when that's going to happen.

There are no other details available at this time, either - but it's still nice to know that Magenta loves you enough to go ahead and put the info out there that you will be getting ICS. T-Mobile should update the support docs accordingly as new information becomes available, so we'll definitely be keeping an eye out for any new developments.

Clove UK Opens Up Pre-Orders For HTC's One X, One S, And One V (Due For Launch In April)

Just as HTC announced its new One line of Android-powered smartphones, Clove, in an HTC One blog takeover, announced that pre-orders are now open for all three devices. Clove also divulged each device's price, full specs, and expected release date.

The HTC One X, perhaps the most impressive of the new line, is slated for release on April 5th, carrying a price tag of £410.00 (or about $645) not including VAT. On top of its awesome specs (listed in the handy image below), the One X is available in either white or grey. While it appears that the international version of the One X will carry a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, it's worth noting that AT&T's version (which will debut later) will in fact be running with a dual-core Snapdragon S4.

[MWC 2012] T-Mobile USA To Carry HTC One S, Its Thinnest Smartphone Yet - Available In Spring 2012

HTC has just unveiled its new 2012 One flagship series of phones, at least one of which T-Mobile USA is going to introduce in the United States this spring - the HTC One S. Of the three variants announced today, the One S is the thinnest - it's only 7.95mm thick. In fact, it's so thin that T-Mobile has never carried another phone that could beat it in that department, which it was quite happy to highlight this afternoon.

The HTC One S sports a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, Android 4.0 with the newest Sense 4 and Image Sense, an advanced 8MP camera with an F/2.0 lens and 0.7s shot time as well as HSPA+42 capabilities on the network side.

Life Without AT&T: T-Mobile's Plan To Rejuvenate Business With An LTE Network Rollout In 2013

Wow, what a year 2011 was for T-Mobile. We watched as AT&T tried to purchase T-Mobile USA to no avail, while Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T all launched the iPhone 4S and made progress towards their own respective LTE networks.

In fact, the latter two items hurt Magenta so much that its revenue dropped 3.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011. Ouch. Don't underestimate the underdog, though; T-Mo has a plan. A plan to draw in more customers, make 4G services more affordable, and, best of all, launch its own 4G LTE network.

Since T-Mobile is the last of the big four to announce its LTE plans, it's also going to be the slowest to get started.

T-Mobile, Shockingly, Unhappy With Verizon's Spectrum Hoarding, Asks FCC To Block Acquisition Of Cable Companies' Holdings

Remember back in December when Verizon announced its plans to buy a truckload of spectrum licenses from several cable companies? T-Mobile does, and they're not happy about it. The fourth-largest US carrier told the FCC that the deal would allow Verizon to "accumulate even more spectrum on top of an already dominant position."

Verizon fired back with the time-honored legal defense of "Well, why not? Nobody else is using it!" In a response to the filing, Verizon claimed that the deal would make use of spectrum that is currently going unutilized by the cable companies. The FCC currently has the goal of ensuring spectrum is utilized as efficiently as possible, so Verizon's response is appropriately laced with an "Isn't this what you wanted us to do?" tone.
