T-Mobile Intros New No-Contract Mobile Broadband Plans From $15

You know what's ridiculous about mobile hotspot plans? In many instances, you have to bundle those into your main package, which means you're stuck paying for it throughout the duration of your agreement regardless of whether you use it or not. T-Mobile doesn't think that's fair, so today it has announced four new levels of no contract mobile broadband plans for tablets, hotspots, and laptop dongles, starting with a 300MB 1-week pass for $15 and going up from there.

300MB 1-week pass for $15
1.5GB 1-month pass for $25
3.5GB 1-month pass for $35
5GB 1-month pass for $50

These new plans are definitely a good solution for anyone who needs to use mobile data on their tablet or laptop only occasionally and doesn't want to be stuck with a two-year agreement.

[Update: Available Now] HTC Sensation 4G On T-Mobile Set To Receive ICS On May 16th, Amaze 4G To Follow 'In The Coming Weeks'

Earlier this month, T-Mobile updated the support documents for the Sensation 4G to let users know that the ICS update would be available "very soon." Now, we have an exact date for that very soon: May 16th.

Beginning May 16, an optional update will be available for the Sensation 4G to update to the latest operating system, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). You can choose to download the update to Android 4.0.3 by following the software update steps.

T-Mobile To End The Era Of Free Tethering (If You Ever Had It To Begin With)

Remember the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Sensation 4G that we told you about yesterday? Turns out that it does more than just bring ICS - it also kills free tethering.

Wait, what? T-Mobile had free tethering? Technically, no. But in reality, yes. Here's how it used to work: T-Mobile offered a tethering service for around $15 per month. Somehow, though, there was a "technical limitation" that actually prevented them from charging for the service on Android devices (though Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T have never had a problem taking our money for the same thing). With the Ice Cream Sandwich update, however, they finally figured out how to put the nail in that coffin, so users who want to continue using the tethering service will have to start actually paying for it post-update.

T-Mobile Reveals Network Expansion Plans: Ramping Up HSPA+ In 2012, LTE Coming In 2013

T-Mobile sent out a press release late last night to announce just what they're doing with the consolation prize from AT&T's failed bid to take over the company. Unsurprisingly, the company is using the $4 billion and spectrum licenses to do exactly what they need to stay competitive with other carriers: expand their HSPA+ coverage and, more importantly, roll out LTE.

According to the press release, we can expect T-Mo to continue expanding and improving their HSPA+ for the remainder of 2012:

As part of the company's network modernization effort, T-Mobile also plans to launch 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band in a large number of markets by the end of the year.

T-Mobile Claims ICS Testing For HTC Sensation 4G Has Completed - Expect It "Very Soon"

Looks like HTC and T-Mobile may be pushing ICS to the Sensation 4G sooner than expected, as the Sensation's support documents on T-Mobile's site just got an encouraging update:

May 2 News: The Android 4.0 (ICS) update for the HTC Sensation 4G has completed its testing process and we expect it to be available very soon. Please stay tuned for an official communication from T-Mobile regarding how and when you’ll be able to receive the update.

This is definitely good new for Sensation owners, considering a previous leak suggested that the update wouldn't be available until mid-June. Since that was likely just a projected date, it can only be assumed that the testing phase has gone better than expected for HTC, as this is the first support page to receive any sort of prospected timeline as to when ICS will hit (although "very soon" is still quite vague).

T-Mobile Is Set To Launch The Prism, A Budget Phone For A Budget Carrier, Expected To Land May 6th

Not every smartphone is designed to blow us away. Every once in a while, we get a little reminder that the low-end handset line needs some love to. On that note, T-Mobile let us know today that it will be launching the T-Mobile Prism, a 3.5" device running Android 2.3. The phone will retail for $20 after a $50 mail-in rebate card with a 2-year contract, or a near-impulse-buy price of $150 with no contract. Dang.

The Huawei-manufactured device is expected to hit Best Buy shelves first, starting May 6th, following by Walmart on May 9th, finally hitting T-Mobile stores on May 23rd.

T-Mobile Galaxy SII, Sensation, Amaze Planned ICS Update Dates Leaked Along With A Few New Devices, Launch Dates

Giving T-Mo customers a few things to look forward to in the coming months, a roadmap of planned release/update dates leaked earlier today, revealing the proposed dates for several new device launches, as well as dates on which users can expect updates to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Before we take a look at the leaked screenshot, though, it's worth noting that these dates are of course subject to change, especially considering this chart wasn't meant for public viewing.

As you can see, T-Mo's Galaxy SII is looking to catch up to its global counterpart with an update to Ice Cream Sandwich on May 14th, while HTC's Amaze and Sensation 4G will be waiting till June 16th.

Galaxy Note For T-Mobile Spotted In The Wild, Probably Not Difficult Since It's Visible From Space

OK, as much as I like to make fun of the Note, it's actually a pretty awesome phone that a lot of people want, and so news that it's coming to T-Mobile is nothing to scoff at. Photos published by TmoNews all but confirm the gargantuan Galaxy is headed to America's pinkest (and leatheriest) carrier, giving credence to a UA string and some FCC filings unearthed last week. Check out this shot, taken from miles above the earth's surface by a top-secret spy satellite:

Joking aside, this (and the other images at TmoNews) clearly show that the Note will be available on T-Mobile (running Android 4.0, no less) sooner rather than later, which is definitely a reason for Note fans to get excited.

Ice Cream Sandwich Update (2.14.531.1) For T-Mobile's HTC Amaze 4G Leaked

Remember way back in December when T-Mo hinted an Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Amaze? Almost five months later, the page has not been updated and an official software update has not been released. Thanks to veteran XDA user Football, however, Amaze owners can download a leaked version of the official ICS update. Considering that the Amaze recently got S-Off capability, it's looking like users have a lot to be excited about this week.

For those interested, this update contains software version 2.14.531.1. Though the download was only posted earlier today, several reports of success are rolling in already.
