T-Mobile Announces The Galaxy Note Will Arrive On August 8th In Stores And Online

Samsung's largest ~~life raft~~ smartphone has, thus far, been saddled to AT&T. Phret not phablet phans. Your dreams of using the nation's largest Samsung phone on the nation's fourth-largest national carrier are about to come true (sorry Sprint/Verizon users). T-Mobile has announced that the device will be available on a 2-year contract starting August 8th with pricing starting at $199 on a 2-year Value voice and data plans plus an added $20/month device financing charge. Alternatively, the device will cost $250 on a more traditional contract plan.

Today, T-Mobile announced that the Samsung Galaxy Note will be available at select T-Mobile retail stores and online at www.T-Mobile.com starting on August 8.

[Rumor] HTC Rezound May Be Getting Its ICS Upgrade As Early As July 29th

HTC Rezound owners may have a reason to get excited in the very, very near future. According to a leaked document, the Rezound may be seeing an update to Ice Cream Sandwich starting as soon as tomorrow, July 29th. The document says the OTA update should be about 292MB, so be sure to have your WiFi handy before you download.

As we mentioned before, there is a decent chance that the tip was fabricated. An update on a Sunday, "6/1" in the "available for pull" field, and inconsistent use of double digit dates are just some of the warning signs.

Of course, we are all waiting with bated breath for the arrival of Jelly Bean, but the more devices that break the 4.0 barrier, the better.

Samsung Releases The Ice Cream Sandwich Kernel Source Code For The AT&T Galaxy S II

When a new device comes out or gets a new version of Android, one thing developers ~~want~~ need to ensure ROMs run as smoothly and efficiently as possible is the kernel source code. Samsung has been quite good about releasing source code for new and updated devices, and it has now made available the Ice Cream Sandwich kernel source for the AT&T Galaxy S II.

While that may not mean much for the bulk of the crowd in terms of actual usefulness, it's definitely good news for the development community. Hit the link below to grab the download.

PSA: The AT&T HTC One X Will Be Available For $99 Beginning On Sunday, July 29th From RadioShack

Rumors have been floating around today that the HTC One X on AT&T is going to drop to $99 on July 29th. We're inclined to believe these rumors, as RadioShack just announced that, you guessed it, the One X will lose $100 off its price tag beginning on Sunday, July 29th, making it $99. This all but confirms that AT&T will drop the price in its stores and online, as well.

To save even more money, you can also take advantage of The Shack's trade-in program, which nets you anywhere between $30 and $300 for your old phone to go towards the purchase of a new phone.

Images, Details Surface – Samsung's Galaxy S Lightray 4G Set To Land On MetroPCS With Super AMOLED Plus Display, Single-Core Processor

Rounding out the list of budget Android handsets for which details emerged overnight, it looks like Samsung will be releasing the Droid Charge look-alike Galaxy S Lightray 4G to MetroPCS in mid-August.

The Galaxy S Lightray is not your average budget device, though – besides a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display (carrying an unknown resolution), 8MP rear camera (with flash), 4G LTE connectivity and (maybe) a 1.3GHz single-core processor, this phone appears to be packing a TV antenna for "Mobile TV" (evidently powered by Dyle TV). Besides that interesting inclusion, the Lightray will also feature HDMI out and a mobile hotspot capability.

Pantech's Star Q Headed For Verizon's Budget Lineup With 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4, QWERTY Keyboard In Tow

Looking to be the successor to the Pantech Breakout, it seems that a little phone called the Pantech Star Q will be headed to Verizon. This sliding, QWERTY-packing device is decidedly a budget phone, expected to ring in at just $99 on contract, but it includes a mixed bag of low-end and surprisingly appealing specs, including Android 4.0.4, a Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, a front-facing camera (of indeterminate resolution), a 3MP rear shooter, a 4" WVGA display, and of course a sliding QWERTY keyboard. Besides all that, the phone will feature 4G LTE connectivity, a definite bonus for those in the budget/mid-range market.

Sprint's Galaxy SIII And Galaxy Nexus Receive Minor Updates

Sprint customers using Samsung's Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy SIII should expect an OTA update to roll in any time now, bringing some enhancements and fixes that – while not entirely exciting – are worth picking up.

The Galaxy SIII update brings the device's software up to L710VPLG8, and includes a handful of improvements, including enhancements to Samsung's Smart Stay feature, voice recognition, and the addition of All-Share Cast support.

The Galaxy Nexus, meanwhile, will be bumped up to IMM76K.L700FG01. Users can expect relatively fewer changes with this update, but the small handful of enhancements include support for Sprint TV and an unspecified Google Security Fix, among others.

Sprint Announces The Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE With A Full QWERTY Slider And Ice Cream Sandwich

During Sprint's earnings call, CEO Dan Hesse outed a the Motorola Photon Q, stating that it's "coming soon." With the cat out of the bag, The Now Network just sent out the press release making the device official, thought it's still missing pricing and release date information.

While this may be the first time we've heard the Photon Q name, it's not the first time we've heard of the device itself. In fact, we got a glimpse of this QWERTY slider last month. At that time, however, we didn't have the full specs. Now, of course, we do.

AT&T Activates Its 4G LTE Network In Four New Markets, Expands In Three Others

AT&T just flipped the LTE switch to 'on' for four lucky markets in parts of Florida and Massachusetts, including:

West Palm Beach, FL
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Miami, FL
Worcester Area, MA

It also expanded in a few other markets:

Baltimore, MD
Boston, MA
Washington D.C. (which expanded the network into Northern VA)

While AT&T's still small-ish LTE network pales in comparison to Verizon's nearly-nationwide 4G blanket, it seems to be rolling out new markets on a consistent basis, making sure to cover all the major metropolitan areas.

At this point, you have to wonder if Sprint or T-Mobile will ever catch up.

Sprint Bringing LTE To Four New Markets Before Labor Day (September 3rd, 2012)

After announcing its financials for the second quarter with money bleeding left and right, Sprint decided to follow up the negatives with a few positives and switched subjects to something a little less gory - upcoming 4G LTE markets. Before Labor Day, which happens to be September 3rd this year, the following areas will be lit up with speedy (but probably patchy) LTE:

Baltimore, MD
Gainesville, GA
Manhattan/Junction City, KS
Sherman-Denison, TX

Compared to dozens of cities announced at every Verizon and AT&T 4G expansion, Sprint is definitely lagging behind, but we're hoping they will be picking up the pace towards the end of the year and into next year when the Network Vision rollout is supposed to be completed.
