Walmart Offering A No-Contract T-Mobile Galaxy S II For $300 With A $30 Monthly Plan (5GB Data, Unlimited Text)

It's not often we find ourselves excited about prepaid here in the US, but if any store can get people excited about saving money, it's Walmart. And what Walmart and T-Mobile just announced is actually pretty exciting if you're looking for a way to get on the smartphone bandwagon with low monthly overhead.

For $300, Walmart will sell you a contract-free T-Mobile Galaxy S II. That in and of itself probably isn't very exciting. The Galaxy S II is definitely getting long in the tooth, but it's also not a bad phone by any stretch of the imagination. The really exciting part is that once you buy it, for $30 a month you can get a prepaid T-Mobile plan that gives you 5GB of 4G data, unlimited texting, and 100 minutes of voice (come on, who uses minutes?).

The Pantech Flex 4G For AT&T: Bringing The Big Screen To Budget On September 16

This morning, AT&T announced a new entry-level addition to its smartphone lineup, the Pantech Flex 4G LTE. Extraneous network tech acronyms aside, this phone actually seems to be a fairly serious offering on the budget end of the spectrum.

At just $49.99 on contract, even as someone who dislikes to notion of budget phones in general, the Flex really does look impressive on paper. A large-for-a-cheap-phone 4.3" qHD SAMOLED display accompanies the now near-ubiquitous MSM8960 dual-core processor, which should make for a legitimately speedy experience. The Flex is running Android 4.0, as well, but we wouldn't get our hopes up on a 4.1 upgrade particularly soon.

RadioShack And Cricket Wireless Shack Up, Announce New No-Contract Wireless Service

Thanks to the high cost of traditional cellular service, contract-free wireless service is becoming more and more appealing to many customers. Two fairly big names in both cellphone sales and pay-as-you-go wireless service - RadioShack and Cricket Wireless - have now teamed up to offer RadioShack No-Contract Wireless service. I kind of wish they would've come up with a catchier name. ShackMobile. ShackWireless. ShackPack. Boom Shack-a-lacka Mobile. But I digress.

The service will start off with but two phones - one smartphone and one feature phone - both manufactured by Huawei. The only one that is of any interest to us, the Huawei Mercury Ice, is a low-to-mid-range Android device, packing a 1.4GHz processor, 4" display, 8MP rear shooter, and Android 2.3.

Verizon Officially Announces The Massive LG Intuition, Available Online Beginning September 6th And In Stores On The 10th

Three short days ago, we heard that Verizon could be launching the behemoth LG Intuition - America's version of the Optimus Vu - beginning on September 6th. Looks like that leaks was pretty much dead-on, as Big Red just officially took what wraps were left off of this oversized monstrosity.

Available online from September 6th and in-stores on the 10th, the LG Intuition packs a massive 5" 4:3 display, 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear shooter, 1.3MP front camera, and Android 4.0.

Trying to take a page from the Samsung Galaxy Note, the device will also ship with a "pen" of sorts, called the Rubberdium pen, which is basically just a standard stylus and doesn't feature any sort of enhanced functionality like Samsung's S Pen.

LG Intuition Could Launch On Verizon As Early As September 6th, In Retail Channels On The 10th

It looks like the recently-rumored LG Intuition for Verizon could be coming to fruition within the next week. According to some leaked shots from Verizon's equipment guide, the overly-large device should hit Big Red's website on September 6th, with retail availability from the 10th.

For those who may be unaware, the Intuition is Verizon's version of the oddly proportioned LG Optimus Vu. Featuring a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear shooter, Android 4.0.x, and 4:3 5" 1024x768 display, the Intuition is the device designed for folks with big and hands and even bigger heads. Let's face it - it's going to be hard for normally proportioned people to look natural with this 5" brick stuck the side of their face.

All joking aside, if this 5" phablet is calling your name, you should be able to grab it mid-next week for a couple hundred bucks when you sign a new contract.

Ice Cream Sandwich Now Available Through Kies For The T-Mobile Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Build UVLH6)

All Wi-Fi versions of Samsung's Galaxy Tab series should have ICS by now, but, as always, carrier connected versions of the devices are left out in the cold. T-Mobile is the only carrier thus far to break that mold when it updated the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus earlier this month.

In a move that should make other carriers feel bad about themselves, T-Mobile has now made available ICS for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, as well. Just like the update for the 7.0 Plus, you can only pull it through Samsung's proprietary Kies software.

This brings the Tab 10.1 up to build UVLH6 with Android 4.0.4, as well as a new, more intuitive version of TouchWiz.

Bloomberg: Motorola Will Release A Phone With No Bezel By The End Of The Year

Ok... Hot report out of Bloomberg, just now, that Motorola will be releasing a phone with no bezel. None. I'm having just as hard of a time believing this as you are.

It's Bloomberg though - they're reliable. They can't be wrong, right? They say the phone "uses the entire front of the device as a display," and "maximizes the screen viewing space by eliminating the black frames or bezels around the display." Several times they use the phrase "edge-to-edge" screen.

The author's twitter page promotes the story with the phrase "sans bezel." He also reported it on video and described the phone as "all screen" and said it will "do away with the little bits of screen that aren't screen." They really are claiming this thing has no bezel.

Pantech Magnus (P9090) For AT&T Pictured In All Its Asymmetrical Glory

South Korean manufacturer Pantech still hasn't made it big in the U.S. market, but their partnership with AT&T has proven to be a steady one so far. The Magnus, AKA the P9090 that we spotted earlier this week, would seem to be Pantech's first high-end device for AT&T, and the first photos of the device have now hit the Internet. It looks like a pretty standard slate phone, with the interesting addition of an asymmetrical duo-tone plastic back. Details are pretty scarce at the moment, though it looks like the lighter gray panel is probably a battery cover.

According to the earlier leak, the Pantech "Magnus" P9090 will run on the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 SoC, giving it a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor and an Adreno 255 GPU.

[Update: It's Back] Verizon Offering $40 Bill Credit For New 4G Phones Activations From Amazon Wireless And Wirefly

Update 8/29/12: The deal is back (Amazon Wireless, Wirefly), though only until August 30th (tomorrow). Remember, you'll need to activate a new line of service and subscribe to the Share Everything plan to get the $40 bill credit.

Verizon, looking to sweeten the deal for anyone ready to grab a new 4G smartphone, has begun a promotion that offers customers a $40 bill credit when buying a new 4G LTE smartphone from either Amazon Wireless or Wirefly.com.

The promotion, which is open to new or upgrading customers, began at 12am today and will last until May 24th.

Sprint Continues To Build LTE Network, Lights Up 4G In Four New Cities

The Now Network continues to march forward in its 4G LTE Network Vision build-out, today announcing four markets in which the LTE switch is being flipped. You may remember Sprint's July statement that it would be bringing LTE to four new cities by September 3rd, and it looks like the carrier has already made good on that promise, with one exception – the list has dropped Sherman-Denison, TX in favor of Sedalia MO. Here's the full lineup of newly christened LTE cities:

  • Baltimore, MD
  • Gainesville, GA
  • Manhattan/Junction City, KS
  • Sedalia, MO

While Sprint is more than a little late to the LTE party and still a bit slow on the pick-up, it's always good to see a fresh batch of areas getting access to the burgeoning network.
