Leak: Sprint 4G LTE Will Be Lighting Up In Boston And Chicago In The Next Week

According to an internal document sent to us by a tipster, Sprint will be turning on the four-gee taps in two major US cities this week - Boston and Chicago. As we know, Sprint is in something of a panic-mode in regard to its 4G rollout, and has decided to begin bringing its network online in some locations before it's fully ready. As you can see in the document below, that is exactly what's happening here.

While Sprint isn't ready to call it "launch" time, it's telling employees that they should be informing customers that 4G coverage is being rolled out, and is accessible in "certain areas," but that the experience may not be "optimal." This basically lines up with a press release Sprint sent out earlier this week, which stated that LTE may be available in some regions before an official launch, and that customers are "free to use it" (read: don't complain if it sucks).

Verizon Galaxy SIII Set To Get Software Update To Build I535VRALG7 'Soon' With Improved Connectivity, Bug Fixes, And More

Owners of Verizon's Samsung Galaxy SIII should be keeping an eye out for a software update which VZW says is "coming soon." The update – which sadly is not Jelly Bean – brings to VZW-connected SIII owners a handful of key improvements, enhancements and bug fixes, and brings the device's software build up to IMM76D.I535VRALG7.

Among the changes included in the 30.7MB update are improved stability and connectivity with Back Up Assistant, the ability to use Verizon Remote Diagnostics, improved S Beam connectivity, an NFC (TecTile) bug fix, and a "No SIM" fix.

[Update: Rolling Out] Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Update LP11 Arriving With ICS Soon

The support docs for Verizon's variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 have just been updated with details of a new OTA LP11 that will bring Ice Cream Sandwich. The update for the Wi-Fi version started rolling out in the US several weeks ago, and T-Mo started pushing the update through Kies to its variant earlier this month.

It's nice to see Verizon make right in a somewhat timely manner, as this update brings some really nice features to the device, and the addition of ICS makes it feel like an entirely new tablet.

Confirmed: Yes, The T-Mobile Galaxy S Relay 4G Has A Snapdragon S4 Processor, Not An S3

After a back and forth over at TmoNews, first with T-Mobile claiming that yes, the Galaxy S Relay (announced several days ago) has an S4 processor, and then Samsung's own product packaging saying otherwise, we've gotten a definitive answer from the source.

Samsung has officially stated to us that the Relay 4G has a Snapdragon S4 processor - for sure. The packaging is incorrectly labeled, and as has been stated over at TmoNews, will be corrected. Presumably, it's the MSM8260A, though we can't confirm that specifically.

A lot of fuss over a mid-range QWERTY slider, right?

US Cellular Releases 'Wi-Fi Now' App, Automatically Connects Applicable Devices To Quality Wi-Fi Networks To Save On Mobile Bandwidth

Now here's a novel idea - a carrier actually helping you save money on your bill. That's exactly what US Cellular is providing with a new app that just landed in the Play Store.

Basically, the app sits idly in the background, watching for "partner" Wi-Fi hotspots. Once it locates one, it automatically connects, which ultimately saves you, the customer, money on your bill (or at least conserves some data). Pretty rad, no?

According to the Play Store listing, "WiFi hotspots are tested for functionality and quality service," so you can at least feel (somewhat) comfortable connecting to seemingly random networks.

Sprint And Samsung Announce The Galaxy Victory 4G LTE - $99.99 (After MIR), Available Sept. 16th

Samsung and Sprint let loose the Galaxy Victory today, a not-quite-budget phone that we saw leaked back in May, then again in July. The official announcement basically seems to confirm what we already knew about the device: that it's not exactly anything to get excited over.

The Victory is packing a 4" WVGA (800x480) SAMOLED Plus display, powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor of unknown lineage (we're guessing a clocked-down version of the Qualcomm MSM8960 S4). Our earlier leaks suggested 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, and that still appears to be the case. There's a microSD slot on board, as well, to expand the latter figure.

Motorola Droid RAZR M Launches On Verizon Wireless Today, Get It For $99 With A Two-Year Agreement

Just one short week ago, Motorola took to the stage in New York City to talk about the DROID RAZR HD/MAXX and RAZR M. While we don't know much in terms of pricing and release information for the former, the latter just became available on Verizon's website and in all retail locations.

  • Optimized Battery performance and metering for longer battery life

Camera

  • The camera changes include improvements for low light performance, reduced blurriness, and better color accuracy.

[Updated] Verizon Launches Mobile Security App Powered By Asurion And McAfee, With Suspiciously High 4.7 Star Rating

This morning, Verizon announced it was launching a brand-new mobile security app for Android. It's called Verizon Mobile Security. Catchy, right?

Fact aside that like most mobile security apps the "malware and virus protection" feature is basically worthless unless you're visiting Chinese / Russian warez sites on a regular basis, this app does bring one thing of value to the table: remote track and wipe (for $2 extra a month, $1 a month if you have a Verizon Equipment Protection plan). Which, it's fair to note, Avast will give you for free, with an app that does other useful stuff.

And that doesn't look like this:

But, if you're an unwitting Verizon subscriber, there's a good chance you might be interested in this, if only because Verizon puts it out.
