Back in July 2016, Verizon announced that it had agreed to purchase Yahoo, for $4.83 billion. [Deal Alert] Sprint's HTC 10 can now be had for just $240, and you don't have to be a Sprint customer to get one

The HTC 10 was never the most popular phone on the block. In our review, we found that its many talking points were ultimately overshadowed by its rather hefty $700 MSRP. Fast forward to today, and even though the 10 has aged a bit, it's still a solid choice. Sprint has just lowered the regular price of this 2016 flagship to just $240, and you don't have to be a Sprint customer to pick one up.

Sprint will be the only carrier selling the Essential phone

After months of rumors, Android co-founder Andy Rubin unveiled the Essential PH-1 phone last month. The phone has high-end specs, nearly no bezel at the top or sides, and optional accessories like a 360-degree camera. But a phone from a startup was likely a hard sell to US carriers, and it seems the only carrier that wanted it was Sprint.

If Sprint is your carrier of choice, you just got three new CDMA-compatible devices to choose from. As of yesterday Sprint now has the ZTE MAX XL, a big but inexpensive phone with a big battery. It isn't new, though it did come out this April. But, it is new to the carrier. There's also the ZTE Warp Connect if a hotspot is more to your liking. Lastly, we have one of the most interesting Android devices in recent memory, the Sprint Phone Connect 4, which gives you a landline over a cellular connection.

Android 7.0 Nougat is still trickling out to various Samsung phones and tablets. T-Mobile updated its version of the Galaxy Tab S2 to Nougat just a few days ago, and now the Verizon model is getting the same treatment.

[Update: Out of stock, ships in 2-4 weeks] The HTC U11 is available to buy in the US and Canada, some pre-orders have already arrived

HTC announced its latest flagship phone last month. The impossibly shiny HTC U11 with its strange, squeezable Edge Sense sides seems like it might be an improvement on its recent offerings. After recent failures such as the U Ultra (a close relative of the new U11), the Taiwanese firm is in need of a win. After going up for pre-order a few weeks ago, the HTC U11 should be now available to purchase from HTC's US ($649) and Canadian ($899) sites. Some pre-ordered devices have already arrived with customers.

Gear S3 Classic LTE now available from Verizon

Carriers and manufacturers are still trying to figure out how to sell smartwatches, and the latest idea is to make watches your phone away from phone. The LG Watch Sport and Verizon Wear24 are two Android Wear watches with LTE connectivity, allowing you to pop in a SIM card and receive phone calls and texts without a Bluetooth connection to your phone.

The Gear S3 and S3 Classic are Samsung's latest Tizen-powered watches, but until now, only a Wi-Fi version of the Classic model was available. An LTE model was announced in March, and it's finally available today at AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

Google wants to make it easy for carriers to have interoperable RCS messaging

Last week Sprint and Rogers announced that users sending messages between the two carriers will be able to make use of RCS. RCS, of course, is the new standard to replace SMS that Google committed to back in 2015. So far each carrier seems to have its own idea for how RCS should work. But Google's recent work in cross-carrier communication is a big step towards ubiquity, and thanks to the tech behind this latest interconnect other carriers can more easily get in on the RCS action.

Sprint and T-Mobile Galaxy S8 and S8+ receiving updates that bring the May patch, an updated Bixby app, and improved SD card stability

Samsung may not have the best reputation for keeping all of its phones on the latest OS versions, but it's usually pretty good with its latest flagships. Case in point: an update with the May security patch, as well as improvements to Bixby (no, it's not Bixby Voice) and microSD card stability, is being pushed to the T-Mobile variants of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. Sprint models are also receiving an update, and we'd expect it to contain the same things.

T-Mobile is rolling out Nougat to the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and Galaxy Tab S2

Samsung and its carrier partners can take a long time to get big system updates rolled out to older devices, but at least it happens. Some OEMs would have abandoned a phone from 2015 by now, but T-Mobile is rolling out a Nougat update to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which was promised a few days ago. Bonus: the Tab S2 on T-Mobile is getting the update, too.
