[New Game] OrangePixel Delivers 8-Bit Shoot 'Em Up Fun In 'Gunslugs'

If you're a fan of action games and nostalgic 8-bit throwbacks, then OrangePixel's new title Gunslugs should be right up your alley. Featuring the NES-style graphics that OP is known for, alongside non-stop bullet-blazing action, Gunslugs in an adrenaline-fueled homage to the 80s action heroes of old.

Gunslugs also throws a unique spin on the traditional platformer: it generates the levels randomly. Basically, that means levels will appear in a different order every time you play.

Google Updates YouTube For Google TV, Play Movies, Finance, And Currents Apps

Google unleashed a handful of updates to various apps this afternoon on the Play Store, though don't get too excited - none are particularly groundbreaking.

YouTube for Google TV

Most significant was an update to Google TV, which brings the app to version 1.6, adding a 'simplified player screen,' and the ability to send YouTube videos from your phone or tablet directly to your TV.

Play Movies & TV

Next up was the Play Movies & TV app, but we're not even sure what's changed, because there's no changelog yet (the current one about availability in 11 countries is old).

AirDroid 2 Beta APK Is Now Available To All, Remote Camera Access And 'Find Phone' In Tow

Do you use AirDroid? You should. It's a fantastic piece of software. While Google tends to prefer using cloud services to manage your data, there is no central app that can access and change anything on your device. This app fills that need and does so amazingly. It's so great that we gave away 20 invites to the v2 beta recently. Now, the invite-only requirement is gone and it's available to anyone who can download it.

[New Game] Gene Effect Is The Protoss Probe Simulator You Never Knew You Wanted To Play

You may have gathered from one or two of our previous posts that there are some Starcraft fanatics lurking around the offices of Android Police (and shouting things like "power overwhelming!" from the editor's desk). So when we saw what's basically a Metroid-style side-scroller apparently starring everyone's favorite autonomous crystal harvester, we had to jump on it. Gene Effect doesn't star an actual Probe, but there's plenty of potential in the game even so, especially if you're a fan of exploration and eye candy.

Synology Releases DS Cloud, Lets You Sync Files From Your NAS For Offline Viewing On Your Android Device

Last week, Synology released a couple of new beta apps – DS Download and DS Video – for owners of its NAS boxes. Now it's added a third app, called DS Cloud, that allows Synology NAS owners to sync files to their Android device for offline viewing.

DS Cloud seems quite useful, as it lets you select certain files and folders you want to sync, as well as per-folder behavior, which basically ensures you always have the most recent version on your device (I wish Dropbox could do this!).

MediaFire Releases Android App, Provides Easy Access To Your 50GB Of Free Storage

MediaFire is definitely one of the more popular cloud-based file sharing services out there, and until now, there wasn't exactly a clean way to access it via Android. Today MediaFire put an end to that problem, and released its official Android app for all of your gee-bee-devouring needs.

The app is fairly simple (and not exactly pretty), but works just like you'd expect - you can browse your MediaFire files in the cloud, upload new ones, and view docs, spreadsheets, presentations, video, and listen to audio.

[New Game] Tupsu Is A Sticky, Furry, Free Physics Puzzler That's More Fun Than This Title Makes It Sound

Whatever you have planned this evening, I suggest you clear some time in your busy schedule to play a little Tupsu. What is Tupsu? It's a physics-based puzzler that you can play on your Android device, and you can leave the (Google) wallet in your (virtual) pocket – Tupsu is totally free.

Tupsu (the thing, not the game) is a furry little ball with sticky eyes on long flexible stalks.

Green Dot Announces 'GoBank', An Online-Only, Smartphone-Centric Take On The Traditional Banking System

Did you know it's national "new mobile banking day?" Because I surely didn't. First, Simple brought its online-only banking setup to Android, and now Green Dot has announced its own bank, which was designed from the ground up specifically for smartphones. Intriguing, no?

GoBank is pretty similar to Simple in a few new ways: it's online only, designed for mobile use, and turns the traditional banking system on its head.

Online Bank 'Simple' Finally Releases Its Android App, And Man Is It Pretty

Simple, the online bank co-founded by Twitter engineer Alex Payne, has been a long time coming (to Android, anyway). The service was actually announced a couple of years ago, with the iOS app arriving about eight months ago. And now it's finally our turn.

From the looks of the app, it appears the wait was worthwhile – instead of just cloning the iPhone app, Simple knew that Android users would want a native experience.
