Facebook Quietly Begins Rolling Out Free Voice Calling In Messenger App For UK Residents

Facebook has been slowly rolling out VoIP calling to its Messenger app in an effort to make it the single, unified source for all your communication needs (before Google can). Today, it apparently took another baby step forward by granting UK users of the mobile app the ability to connect for free (minus data charges where applicable) to anyone they're friends with.

At the moment the service doesn't seem to have rolled out to all users yet, and it may even still be a bit buggy (the slow expansion is partially to conduct tests, after all). However, the important thing is it's coming.

Both TiVo For Phones And Tablets Updated With Support For Android 4.2, Enhanced Away Mode Functionality

Look, the TiVo apps may not be the best on the market (their 2.5 star ratings speak pretty loudly), but that hasn't stopped the team from putting together a generous new update for both the phone and tablet apps that brings support for Android 4.2, along with a handful of other new features.

1[5]

Among those, the Away Mode functionality has been improved, giving users more control while they're on the go. Otherwise, tablet owners now have "a new browsing experience," which includes faster navigation from collection to collection and the ability to publish current authored collections directly to their tablet.

Otherwise, both phone and tablet users can take advantage of Android 4.2 support, as well as some other general bug fixes.

Springpad Reaches v4.0, Brings A New Look, Enhanced Functionality, And Better Sharing

If you were to throw Evernote and Pinterest in a room together and give them enough time to breed, the end result would be Springpad 4.0. That's not to say anything bad about the new Springpad update, of course – both Evernote and Pinterest are fantastic apps. And their little bundle of joy got its father's usefulness (Evernote) and its mother's good looks (Pinterest). It's a win all around.

Existing users of Springpad should still feel right at home in the app, but will notice a more streamlined approach to accessing their "Springs," which also includes Springs from followed users as well.

Gameloft Teases Upcoming Dungeon Hunter 4 With Very Pretty Video Trailer

The fourth incarnation of Gameloft's action-RPG Dungeon Hunter franchise is going to be coming out in the near future, but the developer is already priming the pump with a teaser trailer. Unlike some other pre-release trailers, this one actually includes gameplay footage. Take a gander.

It looks like the same kind of hack-and-slash gameplay from past editions of Dungeon Hunter at work here. There will still be an arena where you can do battle against other humans, but the main quest will surely be the meat of the experience. The last game in the series was free-to-play with in-app purchases, and I suspect Gameloft will continue with this model in Dungeon Hunter 4.

Action Launcher Looks To Realize The Full Potential Of Home Screen Widgets With 'Shutters' In Latest Update

Action Launcher is something special. The home screen replacement made its debut a short three months ago in December, and found its way into our hearts as one of (if not the) best app of the month. What makes Action Launcher a great replacement is that it's unique – AL is totally different from any Launcher we've yet seen, and it earns that distinction with a couple of signature features: first, all your apps are a quick slide away. Second, your home screen can have "covers," or folders that behave as the app on the "cover" when tapped, but which expand to a full selection when swiped.

MakerBot And OUYA Team Up To Let You 3D Print Your Own Console Case

We don't get to talk much about 3D printing here at Android Police because it's not a technology that's terribly mobile-focused (nor is it even that commonplace yet), but suffice to say, it's amazing. While this may not be about making prosthetic body parts, vehicles, or bikinis, MakerBot and OUYA are partnering to allow users to print their own enclosures for the hackable console. This may be the coolest way to customize a game system yet.

Console customization isn't anything new to hardcore gamers. There have been kits, accessories, and tools to make your hardware your own for ages.

[GDC 2013] SEGA Announces Puzzle Pirates, House Of The Dead: Overkill – The Lost Reels, And Godsrule – Coming This Spring/Summer

SEGA already made some waves in the Android world by announcing a port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog at GDC 2013 yesterday, but the company wasn't finished there. It just announced three more games coming to the platform later this year: Puzzle Pirates, House of the Dead: Overkill – The Lost Reels (!), and Godsrule. Excited? I know I am.

Let's start with Puzzle Pirates. This quirky MMO has been around for several years now, but that hasn't taken away from its allure. I mean, where else can you become a pillaging pirate on the high seas and not get taken to prison?

Google Pushes Small Updates To PrimeTime For Google TV, Offers, And Sound Search

We've already seen two pretty major updates to Google apps today, with Translate's offline language packs and Movies getting info cards. Some smaller updates were also pushed out to a few other apps as well – namely Sound Search, Offers, and PrimeTime for Google TV. Since the latter's the most notable (in terms of what's in the update, that is), let's start there.

The PrimeTime app for Google TV brings a few new things by adding support for Amazon Prime content, as well as a subscription selector for Netflix, HBOGO, and Prime. So, basically, more ways to get content.

Past that, Offers brings but one small enhancement: notifications of saved offers nearby.

[Trailer] Gameloft's Official Iron Man 3 Endless Runner Game Lands April 25th, Melts Your Face With Snark And Explosions

Iron Man 3 is coming out soon. If you haven't seen the trailers, suffice to say it's going to be awesome. It's the first Marvel movie featuring the main set of heroes after the Avengers took over the world's economy. Until it comes out, though, Gameloft wants to sate your appetite with the official Iron Man 3 game, an endless runner-style title that has fewer giant monkeys and more things going KERPLOW.

The gameplay trailer shows us much of how it works and it's all pretty standard fare. Gameloft has never been the developer to stray too far from the mainstream.

Google Translate Adds 51 Offline Language Packs, Lets You Tear Down The Language Barrier Without A Network Connection

Google Translate has always been one of the unsung heroes of the free service space. On the one hand, it doesn't provide a perfect translation, so people are still hesitant to call it a true breakthrough. On the other hand, we use it all the time to translate web pages enough to get the gist and, when combined with speech-to-text and text-to-speech, you can use the Android app as the closest thing to a universal translator in your pocket the world has ever seen. Now, it's getting even better with offline language packs.

Starting today, you can download any of the 51 language packs available and have always-on access to translation between any combination of the ones you've chosen.
