Chromecast is best known for getting video from your phone or tablet onto your television screen. It also streams audio, if you're into that sort of thing. These two things cover most of what people generally do with Google's little streaming stick. Read More
Just last week Cody Toombs spotted the building blocks for a drawing function in Google's Keep notes app, and now it's live. The latest version of the APK, 3.2.435, makes it active and visible. You can wait for Google to get around to delivering it via the Play Store, or you can skip the line and download it from APK Mirror below. Read More
Microsoft acquired Sunrise Calendar earlier this year, and now comes the news that fans of Sunrise have been dreading. The Sunrise app is dead, but its features will be rolled into the existing Outlook app. Microsoft is still putting the finishing touches on the first Sunrise-infused Outlook update, but it has offered up some screenshots to tide you over. Back in May of this year we reported on the imminent expansion of Android TV apps promised by Google, including an app for HBO GO. The timeline for its release was originally "sometime this summer". Looking out my window at the sodden mess of wet, decaying leaves plastered to my driveway here in Seattle, I think it's safe to say they missed that deadline. Oh well, I guess late is better than never.
HBO Now subscribers have had access to an Android TV app since the beginning of the month, so it's nice to see the far more popular HBO GO app finally catch up. Read More
Sending a Skype video message is like placing a video call, only instead of having to be online at the same time, the person on the other end can pick up whenever, the conversation is completely one-sided, and the entire affair is limited to a couple of minutes. Following the latest update to the Android app, you can now spice up those short clips by applying filters. Add in balloons, warp your face, turn things negative—that sort of thing.
To apply any of the effects, hit the icon in the bottom left while recording a message. Since we're approaching the end of October, Skype has also included a few Halloween-related options and emoticons. Read More
Google held a press event last month and talked about a few of the interesting new features planned for the Photos app. We're still waiting for collaborative albums to be turned on, but we've already seen other features come to life, like Chromecast support and setting labels for matched faces. This version doesn't appear to unlock collaborative albums – that may be waiting for a server-side switch – but it does add another feature to the facial matching feature: the ability to hide somebody.
Google's changelog is up
Google posted an official changelog for Photos v1.8:

Today is the big day. Open YouTube on your platform of choice and you might notice a new logo for YouTube Red. Google's ad-free version of YouTube appears to have just gone live for eligible subscribers. Never again will you be asked to sit through a 15-second pre-roll ad for a 30 second video or click to hide that stupid banner. What a glorious day this is. Read More
The Microsoft Garage has given birth to a myriad of interesting apps with limited utility, but everyone needs a home screen, right? Microsoft made Arrow Launcher available as a beta over the summer, but now it's available in the Play Store for everyone to try. It'll take some getting used to, though. This isn't just another AOSP re-skin.
There aren't many things apps can brag about to other apps. Oh, you're portable? So am I! What's that? You come in a small package size? Same here! You're finger friendly, can explain how you work in a few screens, and integrate well with the rest of Android? Check, check, and check! Over 1 billion downloads? Okay, Google Drive, you have me beat.
Yeah, download counts are special. Not all developers are out to get their apps into the hands of as many people as possible, but most feel a certain tingle in their chest when that number starts to work its way up. Read More
