Grand Theft Auto III, the car-stealing, open world game that came to Android in celebration of the series beginning ten long years ago, got a nice update today, bumping it to version 1.3. Besides the usual bug fixes, the GTA update expands the game's compatibility to ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer Prime and the Medion Lifetab, while also adding support for Gamestop's wireless game controller, and enhanced controls for other gamepads and Sony's Xperia Play.

Alright, Google. It's time to stop leaving your VoIP service to languish on the vine. Facebook has released a double-whammy of big news bits. For starters, today the social network is rolling out an update to its Messenger app that will allow users to send each other short, recorded audio clips. It's voicemail for the 21st century, if such a thing can even exist without being horrible. And, really, this sounds like it's not.

Who wants some free apps? You do? Cool. Read on.

I'm sure you've all heard of PowerAmp before. But for those who haven't, it's probably the most powerful, versatile, and customizable music player in the Play Store. And that's saying something, because there is no shortage of music players on there. So, what's so cool about it? The fact that it can do basically everything you could possibly want from a media player.

So maybe you made some resolutions this as the new year is upon us, but how are you supposed to keep track of all your resolution-related tasks with only two crummy dimensions? Hmm? Yeah, you're going to want at least three dimensions of to-do management, and that's where Zime comes in. This app is still in beta, but it's a really cool, flashy to-do list that relies on a gesture-controlled timeline view.

Mobile companion apps for AAA PC and console titles have become popular in the last few months: see companions for Call of Duty and FIFA 2013 for examples. Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 is a surprisingly excellent addition to the shooter franchise, and it offers a companion app for its multiplayer component. But what makes this one different is that it includes more than the standard social/organization elements: playing the Outpost app can score equipment and upgrades for the main game.

We've had our fun with Zombies, Run! before. The fitness program/zombie horde simulator is one of the more innovative ways we've seen to get in shape. However, it's not all casual fun. Sometimes you have to get serious. If you're looking for an app to push  you a bit harder, you may want to check out Zombies, Run! 5K Training. Currently on sale for $0.99 in the Play Store (75% off), this one gives you more in-depth structure to get you through a full 5K in 8-weeks.

Horror and adventure are a surprisingly potent combination for gaming - just ask anyone who's played TellTale's series based on the Walking Dead series. The niche is a little barren on Android, but has gotten a little less so with the release of Killer Escape. In this game you're a luckless protagonist captured by a serial killer, and you've got to use your wits to escape via a series of puzzles and exploring your dank surroundings.

Starcraft (Brood War) on Android with full touch controls.

Great, now that I have your undivided attention, let me explain. So, you, like most reasonable human beings, think playing Starcraft on a tablet would be pretty awesome. It's been tried before, but usually the result is a messy, laggy ROM on an N64 emulator that requires you to control a cursor with a digital joystick. And as we all know, that's basically like poking yourself in the eye with a hot fork.

Facedroid is an app that ambitiously set out to give users a more powerful, functional Facebook experience. Until now, though, it was only available for Android tablets.

In a substantial update to version 2.52 today, that changed – the new update finally brings Facedroid to your phone. The phone interface, as you may expect, looks to bring the same functionality users have come to know and love from the tablet version.
