Some of my favorite mobile games for the mobile platform are of the puzzle genre, because it tends to lend itself well to the array of controls that are provided. A new THD game that just landed in the Market today, however, combines simple controls and some quirky physics to give you a unique puzzling experience.

In Sprinkle, you are put in charge of a small village's fire department, who are in turn in charge of extinguishing fires that are caused by falling meteorites. Since the citizens of this village live in thatched-room huts (despite having the technology for a high-powered hose), you can imaging that fire is pretty bad for them.

One of my favorite keyboard options for Android, Thumb Keyboard from Beansoft, has recently updated to version 4.3.3. Beansoft already upped the app to version 4 a little while ago bringing themes (and a slick coverflow gallery view of the themes) and a ton of other features that improved the keyboard's capacity for customization. Building on that update, 4.3.3 brings the following:

  • Customizable keyboard backgrounds
  • Adjustable typing volume
  • Full support for h/qvga screens
  • Minor bug fixes

It has been a while since the official Google Docs app received an update of any kind, but Google pushed a small batch of fixes and enhancements today. The update brings 45 new languages, the ability to copy any image directly from the Gallery, open documents with any compatible apps, and send documents as an attachment through email or MMS.

The update is available now in the Android Market.

It's no secret that we're big fans of the BeyondPod podcast manager here at Android Police. It is easily the best, most full featured podcatcher in the market, providing many features that the competition can't touch. The BeyondPod team has been working on a Honeycomb version of their famous podcatcher for some time now, and today it shed its beta skin and hit the Market in official form.

BeyondPod offers full RSS integration, so you can not only listen to/watch all of your favorite podcasts, but check out your RSS feed and read the latest news while you're at it.

A couple of weeks ago, the official NFL Fantasy Football app landed in the Android Market, much to the delight of football fans across the nation. Today, ESPN has released its official Fantasy Football app, allowing you to manage your team on-the-go. The app offers full team management for multiple teams and leagues, lets you add, drop, and trade players; real-time stats and scoring, push notifications for injuries, substitutions, and scoring updates; as well as fantasy news and access to your team's message board.

Download: Android Market v3.1.3 (mirror) (for all devices - does not require root, but you do need to enable 'Unknown Sources' in the Settings-> Applications menu.)

The Market update in this post is meant for phones only - there is no known update to the Honeycomb tablet Market at the moment.

Wow, Google is on a roll with the Android Market lately. Since the release of Market v3.0, a number of small updates have come to the Android Market recently, but this is by far the biggest yet. Google has added the long-awaited +1 functionality to the Android Market (which has been on the web version of the Market for quite some time), along with a few other goodies.

Swype_thumb_thumb

As promised yesterday, the Swype team have released an update to the beta version of their keyboard that brings all of the same features as the recent NS4G-exclusive version, including gestures, personal dictionary, and a new feature called Swype Connect.

Swype Connect is a lightweight background service that collects Swype-specific data and ensures the integrity and validity of the installation, while reporting usage details and device information back to Swype's servers. Like most apps that collect such information, Swype Connect doesn't gather anything personal, just basic information that can then be used to enhance and improve future versions.

This post is from a previous deal, but has been updated to reflect the new price!

If you're the corporate type and have had some issues with Android's default Exchange compatibility, then you've probably looked for a good alternative. Among the contenders is an app by NitroDesk called "Exchange By Touchdown," which allows for secure, encrypted Exchange synchronization.

You can only get this deal in the Amazon Appstore. It's still $19.99 in the Android Market!

Touchdown works with any Exchange Server that has ActiveSync enabled, all you have to do is enter your email login credentials. It offers encryption for email fields that may contain sensitive data, as well as calendar and contact entries.

In an official communication with the company, we've been told that the Sprint-exclusive update to Swype on the Nexus S 4G will be coming to the Swype beta channel for all supported handsets this week.

The update will lack the nifty Sprint-specific skin of the Nexus S 4G version, but will contain the improved capitalization, the Swype-specific personal dictionary, and the new gesture support for launching apps like Twitter and Facebook, as well as editing text in a quick and efficient manner by providing gesture shortcuts for select all, cut, copy, and paste.

We've removed our links to the ported .apk in our previous post at the request of Swype, who have valid concerns about licensing of the Sprint-branded version which is currently floating around over at XDA.

As part of a back-to-school promotion, remote access software LogMeIn Ignition has received a temporary 50% cut off its normally $30 price tag, making it a very affordable $15. LogMeIn Ignition allows you to access your Mac or PC from anywhere using your smartphone or tablet and remote control it just as if you were sitting in front of it, quickly and easily providing access to all of your files and programs.

Another great use for LogMeIn is remote tech support -- we all have those family members who will call with an issue, and it's so much easier to do it yourself than to explain what needs to be done to someone who probably has little idea what you're talking about in the first place.
