Tower defense. Tower defense. Tower defense. There's definitely no shortage of TD-style games for Android. Don't' get me wrong - TD games are great. There are just a ton of them. Game development firm 11 Bit Studios must've realized that, too, so they went to the lab and carved away at their popular tower offense title Anomaly Warzone Earth and brought it to Android.

[New Game] Sonic The Hedgehog 4, Episode 1 Finally Makes Its Way To Android

At the end of last month, NVIDIA announced that Sonic the Hedgehog, Episode 2 would be making its way to Tegra 3-powered devices in 2012. This is not that game.

Instead, this is Episode 1, a long time exclusive of iOS devices. Episode 1 brings the Sonic gameplay we all know and love, picking up where the classic Sonic and Knuckles left off.

The game features all of the same Sonic moves from previous games and even adds a new trick to the hedgehog's arsenal of spinny maneuvers: the homing attack. You'll get four zones with four acts in each and seven special stages, which includes two levels that were specifically designed for smartphones/tablets.

[Hands-On] Big Fish Games Brings Suspense And Adventure To The Hidden Object Genre With 'The Serpent Of Isis'

You may have already played this game on a computer or an iDevice, but it has recently made its way into the Android Market and is really worth a mention. We don't usually cover many hidden object games here at Android Police, but The Serpent of Isis by Big Fish Games really has something captivating about it. Not only is it challenging to find the objects you're looking for, but the whole game ties very nicely into an interesting and suspenseful plotline. While this is the idea behind nearly every game in this genre, not many can do it well.

Gameplay

The whole game is centered around finding The Serpent of Isis, an ancient Egyptian artifact that your grandfather found several decades ago.

If you were part of the PC gaming scene in the late 1990's and early 2000's, you almost certainly played Counter-Strike at some point. It was the online first-person shooter (of course, Doom III was around as well), and was essentially a modified runtime of Valve's popular sci-fi FPS Half-Life. Later iterations of the game like Condition Zero and Counter-Strike: Source lacked the magic which made the first game so addictive, and so the series has essentially been undergoing a slow death over the last few years.

But if there's one platform that has shown it can revive a seemingly dead game, it's the smartphone.

[Hands-On] Osmos HD Floats On Over To The Android Market Bringing Unique Captivating Gameplay Along With It

Some of you may have already played Osmos on your computer or on an iDevice, but this quirky little number by Hemisphere Games has finally hit the Android Market for more to enjoy. For those of you that have never heard of Osmos, it's a physics-based game that has such a simple concept it may leave you dumbfounded. Basically you control an organism, or 'mote', and aim to absorb other motes through osmosis (see what they did with the title there?). As I said, it sounds simple, but it truly is an astounding game.

Gameplay

The reason Osmos works so well is because everything ties together to create an undeniably solid gaming experience.

Introduction

Half Breed, by iNoko Studios, is an alien-themed shooter that just landed on the Android Market today. As the title indicates, you play the role of a mysterious being who wakes up to find that he is now half-man and half-alien. If that wasn't enough, this creature has a whole arsenal of crazy powers, and is bent on seeking revenge against the people who made him this way.

Gameplay

There are two different game modes in Half Breed, story and multiplayer. Unfortunately, multiplayer isn't true online gameplay, as the only way to take advantage of it is to play with a friend over a Wi-Fi connection.

[New Game] Doptrix Puts An Awesome "Twist" On Classic Tetris Gameplay

Stanislav Merezhko recently introduced a game called Doptrix to the Android Market. I have to say that at first glance, I wasn't expecting anything brilliant. I was mistaken.

Doptrix turns Tetris-like gameplay on its head, literally. The game uses a familiar four-block shape pushing premise, but allows the player to turn, rotate, and flip the game board as they choose. The player can also choose when (and from what position) a shape launches toward the board.

Taking this unique gameplay to another level, Doptrix includes three modes of play: Classic, Alternative, and Puzzle. Classic mode uses familiar Tetris shapes, and allows the player to move them left or right before swiping them up to the game board.

Seeing as Bomberman has been perennially resurrected since its 1983 release, chances are extremely high that you've played some variation of the game in your lifetime. Now, if you're like me, you seriously jones for some Bomberman action from time to time, and are only satisfied once you renter the Bomber Nebula to blow your way through mazes. Now you can carry the little guy in your pocket, and even play multiplayer with friends or random opponents.
