One of the most popular Android games, Angry Birds Seasons, by everyone's favorite developer Rovio Mobile went on a 1-day sale today as the free premium app of the day over at the Amazon Appstore. The only difference between the already-free version of the same name and this one is the absence of those annoying ads that pop up in the most ridiculous locations at the most inopportune times.

To grab Angry Birds Seasons that currently consists of 4 editions (St Patrick's Day, Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day), proceed to the Angry Birds Season Appstore page.

Last month we told you about the beta of Tower Raiders 2, the sequel to the super-popular tower defense strategy game, Tower Raiders. The beta brought improved graphics and 6 new levels, and it looks like the devs over at Gianormous Games have been hard at work since then, because they just popped out the full "GOLD" version, which brings even more improvements and added gameplay (24 levels total, including #7 named "Charlie Sheen").

That's right, Amazon's offering not one, but two free apps on the Amazon Appstore this morning! You can pick up the popular HeroCraft title Farm Frenzy along with the official Newsweek Mobile app from Amazon free of charge.

I don't know about you - but I can't tell which is which.

Newsweek Mobile offers Amazon's "Test Drive" in-browser emulation, so you can try it from your browser before making the 15 second commitment to put it on your phone.

In a recent interview with Reuters, Gameloft stated that they will be focusing their attention on the Amazon App Store to distribute their games on the Android platform. The company's games are already insanely popular on Android (and iOS, for that matter), despite being actively opposed to Google's Android Market. Their Android offerings have thus far only been available on their website, so their move to a Market isn't so surprising.

PewPew, a beautiful retro style shooter (think Geometry Wars), was released for Android early February of this year and has found a rather receptive market. With its chaotic gameplay, attractive visuals, great frame rate and $0 price tag, it managed to bag a well deserved 1 million+ downloads in less than two months.

Yesterday, Jean-François Geyelin released PewPew 2, a follow-up to the popular game, onto the Android Market.

When I was growing up in the 90s, one of my favorite games I probably spent a combined year of playing time on was Heroes Of Might And Magic, a turn-based strategy that you can play for weeks. Since each move lasts as long as you want, it's easy to keep playing whenever you have a free moment (or a block of 5 hours in my case), and the vast number of strategies, heroes, units, and resources provided for almost infinite replay value.

Those of you familiar with PC gaming will no doubt be well aware of Valve Corporation's digital distribution platform Steam. Well, member PoliticalGamer over at the Steampowered User Forum just got back from a trip of a lifetime to Valve HQ in Bellevue, WA, and he brought back some interesting news.

In a discussion with Valve co-founder and frontman Gabe Newell, PoliticalGamer caught wind of Valve's interest in expanding its Steam operations onto both iOS and Android.

The success that the Angry Birds games have brought to Rovio is stunning, really: the company was reportedly on the verge of bankruptcy when it released the game, and today, revenue is estimated to be between $50 and 70 million annually. It's perhaps no surprise, then, that the company raised $42 million in funding earlier this month, and they enjoyed the luxury of picking and choosing their investors. They even reportedly determined the terms of investment - quite the reversal of roles.

Guerrilla Bob - Android Market
Last Updated: March 18th, 2011

It seems that the Android Market's gaming content has been improving by leaps and bounds lately, has it not? It was just a few months ago that Doodle Jump and Replica Island were some of the best our beloved OS could offer. While we still appreciate our humble beginnings, those days are long gone and mustached mercenary Guerrilla Bob is here to announce that - with his machine guns blazing.

An import from iOS, Angry Mob Games' Guerrilla Bob is a top-down action-packed shooter that pits a Rambo-like, cigar-chomping avenger (you guessed it, Guerrilla Bob) against an army of baddies ranging from terrorists to bulldozer-driving madmen.
