It's been a long time since Desktop Tower Defense - the genre needs a little shaking up. And with the Prey series of shooter games under their belts, Human Head Studios thinks they're the ones to do it. Their latest game is Fort Courage, and it fits broadly into the mobile-friendly category. The free game is available right now on the Google Play Store, but you'll need an NVIDIA Tegra-powered device to run it, and a Tegra 3 for the best results.

The older among you may remember back in the hallowed days of the Apple II The Bard's Tale was a neat text-based RPG that gained quite a following. Well, fast-forward 20-something years and The Bard's Tale arrived on iOS as a reimagined 3D action RPG. Now that same version of the game is destined for Android, and it's going to be a Tegra exclusive.

The original Bard's Tale was heavy on pithy humor, and its modern reincarnation follows that script.

In a time long before Captain America was even a glimmer in Strategic Scientific Reserve's eye, there was another World War. Did you know that? Yep. There were a lot of airplanes in it. Sky Gamblers: Rise of Glory lets players take those planes up in the air in a flight sim/aerial combat game that actually looks rather polished. Take a look:

Sky Gamblers has been released before, but it looks like it was a Sony-exclusive for a while (nearly all reviews were from Sony devices).

In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a new Judge Dredd movie coming out starring Karl Urban (who should know a thing or two about remakes… darn it, he’s an actor, not a doctor). To build up some mobile hype, a new game has hit the Google Play Store. And since it is a mobile game, old Judge, jury, and executioner has come to finish off what plants, samurai, and Barry Steakfries couldn’t: zombies.

KizStudios released a nice little adventure game called Critter Escape to the Amazon Appstore a while back, but it has now arrived in Google Play. In Critter Escape, you pretty much do what the title says. You're a critter of some sort, and you have to escape from a diabolical animal research facility. On the upside, some of the experiments offer helpful powers that improve your chances of escape.

There are two control schemes: a virtual thumbstick (which is bad) and a tap and drag system (which is good).

Odds are pretty good that you’ve hear this phrase from grizzled SNES-era gamers entering their thirties: “Games are too easy these days!” (Of course, younger gamers will use the same tone to complain about a lack of regenerating health and auto-saves.) If you long for the days of three lives and no continues… then even you might not be hardcore enough for One Single Life. This freshman game from developer FreshTone takes the “permanent death” idea to extremes by allowing you, well, one single life.

Things were good back in '89. Madonna's Like a Prayer was the song of the year, Michael Keaton took Batman to a whole new level, and Price of Persia was the the gamers' game. Hard to believe that was 23 years ago.

While Madonna has seemingly fallen of the face of the earth over the past few years, Batman received new life with Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, and, now, Ubisoft has resurrected Prince of Persia for mobile devices.

The real-time strategy genre has a lot to recommend it: tactical thinking, fast-paced unit and resource management, and multiplayer atmosphere that's unlike anything else in gaming. But it's hard to escape the fact that in order to have a real RTS, you just need a mouse. Precise movements and commands are nigh impossible on a touchscreen. Sega's Total War Battles: Shogun is a spinoff from their wildly successful Total War PC franchise, which breaks with tradition and tries to adapt the RTS genre to the touchscreen.

Renaissance Blood THD, a game exclusive to the Tegra 3 platform that we covered at launch back in May, is now on sale in the Play Store for the extremely reasonable price of $0.99.

The sale (which slashes the game's price down from $3.99) is in celebration of RB's latest update, which adds a third stage of gameplay to the existing two.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Renaissance Blood THD is a rail shooter set in the Renaissance just after Leonardo Da Vinci's death, with your goal being to find and assemble a scattered blue print left behind by Da Vinci himself, all while killing off enemies sent your way by Bart, a crazed Renaissance priest who shares your goal to get a hold of Da Vinci's plans.
