Carbonite Labs Releases Currents For Android, An Interesting Take On Cloud File Sync (Too Bad It's Broken)

Here at Android Police, we're kind-of-sort-of all about Dropbox when it comes to our cloud storage needs. It's easy to get free space, the desktop and Android clients are both pretty great, and the service itself has generally been bulletproof-reliable. And for us, Dropbox is less about storing things in the cloud, and more about providing easy access to files wherever we go.

Carbonite's Currents works off the accessibility mentality - it's not how much you can store, but what you want to have within arm's reach at a given moment. So, Currents doesn't have storage limits, it has recent-ness limits.

There's A New Tasker Beta In Town And It's Got A Redesigned Holo UI

Remember back when Google showed off what Tasker could look like if it updated to support the new ICS guidelines and we all drooled? Then the dev behind it said that there's already a UI overhaul in the works and we started squirming in our seats? Well, today's the day we all freak out, because today the developer released a beta of Tasker 4.0b4 that shows off a completely redesigned interface.

If you want to get in on this action, you can download the APK here. There are two separate download links, one for those who have purchased Tasker from the developer directly in the past, and one for those who bought it from the Play Store.

NASCAR Mobile '13 Screeches Into The Play Store, Covered In Engine Grease And Logos

Round and round and round she goes. Where she stops nob-holy mother of crap! That car just exploded! Okay, alright. Maybe I can understand a little bit of why folks like NASCAR. And in solidarity with my fellow southerners who adore the sport, allow me to share this with you: NASCAR Mobile '13.

The app gives you access to news, schedules, driver information and a ton more. It even looks nice, utilizing the sidebar navigation we're all getting used to, and a Holo-ish feel. There are a few quirks, though, as some features (like the Sprint Unlimited Vote) require the user to open a browser, and sliding between videos—as in the center image above under the "Latest" subheading—was very difficult when I tried it.

Having Lag Issues On Your Device? 'LagFix' Aims To Make It Perform Like New Again

I have a confession to make: I haven't been using my Nexus 7 that much over the past few weeks. Why? Because it has been suffering from horrible lag. Everything was peachy keen up until the Android 4.2.1 update, but that's a different story for a different day. For now, the lag is the important bit.

LagFix is for rooted devices only.

Then we stumbled across a new app called LagFix, which – get this – fixes lag issues on many devices, like the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, Nexus 4, One X+, and more. Of course, the lag thing is a common issue, and is likely caused by a "well-known TRIM bug," which basically means that storage is "not properly TRIMmed when needed." So that's what this app does.

While I've never been much of a live wallpaper guy myself, there's little denying that DualBoot Games (I'm guessing the name is a holdover) makes some of the best and prettiest ones out there. At least, that seems to be the general consensus, judging by the number of downloads their seven wallpaper designs have managed to achieve.

You may say "only seven? how hard can making a live wallpaper be?" Well, DualBoot Games' live wallpapers take it to the next level - the amount of customization and control you can take over one of their creations is mindblowing. If it moves in some way (and even if it doesn't), you can probably change it.

OneLouder Apps' 1Weather Hits v2, Brings New UI, Tablet Support, Android 4.2 Lock Screen Widgets, And More

It's a fantastic looking app that delivers useful information about the weather conditions in your area, both current and extended. And, as of today, the app has been updated to v2, which brings a handful of new features to this already-fantastic app:

[New App] Umano Is An App That Has Real People Read The News To You

Sometimes using your eyes is just so darn tedious. It can be preferable at times like that to just get information directly through your ear-holes. Radio? Sure. Audiobooks? Alright. News? Surprisingly, yes. Umano is an app that lets you find news stories on the internet and hear them read to you by real people – not some robotic monstrosity that can't even pronounce names correctly.

The selection in Umano is fairly broad, but not that deep. There's finance, politics, science, and there's even some tech. You just won't be able to hear stories from your favorite blog unless it's a very popular site.
