Lockitron Aims To "Replace Your Keys With Your Phone," Offers Intriguing Remote Lock Management Functionality

Joining the race to replace all of your practical possessions with mobile apps, Lockitron is offering an NFC-based, key-free lock control solution for Android, iPhone, and Blackberry that has the potential for tons of applications, from letting people into your home while on vacation, to simply buzzing in a friend with no effort whatsoever.

Utilizing a system of "mobile keys," Lockitron's system communicates with a small hardware device connected to the user's internet router, which in turn communicates with your doors, either automatically, or through the use of an optional NFC tag that the user would manually slap onto a lock.

Last week, Cisco released their Cisco Connect Express app on the market to very little fanfare, though the app is quite impressive. It allows you to control your Cisco/Linksys router from your Android device via WiFi, with the key features listed as:

Guest access – An easy way for visitors to get online. Give password-protected Internet access to visiting friends and family while keeping your own information private. No need to remember the guest password, it’s in the app. Simply email the password to your guest and they’ll be online in no time.

Add devices to your network – Quickly connect your computers, gaming consoles, tablets, and other Wi-Fi enabled devices to your network.

Ancestry.com Releases Official Beta App, Allows Subscribers To See (But Not Modify) Their Family Tree

Ancestry.com subscribers now have another way to access their family tree, as the company has released the first beta version of their official Android app. At the moment, it's read only, meaning you can't modify information via the app, and the team has yet to implement many other necessary features such as searching for specific people in your tree.

The official description:

First beta release of the Ancestry app. Please submit feedback to androidteam@ancestry.com.

This is a pre-release product intended for testing only. The ability to add and edit people, search for people in your tree, and more will be available in the final release.

LBE Privacy Guard V2 Completely Revamped, Brings New Interface And Additional Features

A few months ago, an app called LBE Privacy Guard landed in the Android Market, which allows for fine-tuned control off app permissions, data usage, and more. It looks like the developer of said app has been hard at work since then, as a new, completely redesigned version is now available. While the name may still be same, the updated version is an entirely different listing altogether, and the previous listing has become home to a Chinese-specific version of the app. Thus, users of version 1.x will have to uninstall it and install the newest version from the new listing.
