Android 7.0 Nougat starts rolling out for the Xperia X and X Compact

When Android 7.0 Nougat started rolling out in August, Sony announced a list of devices that would get the official update sooner or later. These updates started at the beginning of the month with the Xperia X Performance and XZ and now another duo of phones is getting the Nougat treatment: the X and X Compact.

The update was announced a few hours ago by Sony's Twitter account, stating that the rollouts are phased and might be coming to certain regions before others. But XperiaBlog had actually spotted the update a couple of days prior and provided more details regarding it: it's rolling to the Xperia X (F5121), Xperia X Dual (F5122), and Xperia X Compact (F5321) and is marked as build number 34.2.A.0.266.

Moto G4 and G4 Plus owners in India are seeing their Nougat updates in a slow rollout

Tis the season for timely Android OS updates. Most of the phones that get bumped to the latest version of Android before the end of the year are flagships and other high-end devices, but it looks like Motorola may be bucking the trend a bit with the latest G-series phones. Reports from a small number of users in India indicate that the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are seeing over-the-air Nougat updates.

Ready for some Nougaty goodness before the end of the year, HTC One M9 users? Android platform distribution, December 2016: KitKat is finally toppled, Nougat doesn't move much

December's Android platform distribution numbers are up and... not much exciting has changed in the last month, to be honest. The only real milestone we're seeing is that Android 4.4 KitKat is finally no longer the most common API level of the platform, having been usurped by Android 6.0 Marshmallow. KitKat's dominant streak was around two years - let's hope Marshmallow doesn't sit on the throne that long.

This does mean that the most common version of the platform is now only two API versions behind the most recent version (Android 7.1, API level 25). The reason KitKat was so long dominant is that Android 5.0 and 5.1 were split into two platform versions because of their differing API levels.
