AT&T's LG Phoenix 2 has received Android 7.0 Nougat

Considering many high-end phones never get major Android updates, it's always nice to see budget phones continue to be supported. This time around, AT&T's sub-$100 LG Phoenix 2 phone is getting Android 7.0 Nougat.

Unlocked LG G5 in the US (RS988) gets Android 7.0 Nougat OTA

OTA updates are amazingly unpredictable. Sometimes, the US versions of devices get them first and international variants have to wait weeks and months, other times it's just the opposite. The latter is the case of the LG G5. My fiancé's unlocked model got the OTA around last December in Lebanon, but apparently the US unlocked version has been lingering on Marshmallow until now. That's a 6-month delay — whoa.

Well, the OTA is finally (never has this adverb been so rightfully used) rolling out to that variant of the G5, which is lovingly called the RS988. It weighs over 1300MB and when it installs, it pushes your device up to software version RS98821a, Android 7.0, with the April security updates.

[Update: RUU] AT&T's HTC One M9 is being updated to Android 7.0 Nougat

AT&T customers holding onto HTC's 2015 flagship should be happy to hear that the carrier's page for the phone has been changed with the details of an update to Android 7.0 Nougat, including instructions on how to pull down the OTA (version 4.27.502.7). Although we haven't seen any first-hand reports for the update on any devices yet, the mention of the OTA on the page would seem to imply that it should appear soon.

Asus begins pushing Android 7.1.1 update to ZenFone 3 Max

Asus didn't pop up much on our radar until a few years ago when the ZenFone 2 came in at a competitive price. The ZenFone 3 family hasn't been as popular, but there certainly are more of them. One variant of the ZenFone is the lucky winner of "first Nougat update," the ZenFone 3 Max (model ZC553KL).

The T-Mobile LG Stylo 2 Plus is getting an Android 7.0 update, for real this time

The LG Stylo 2 Plus is a pretty standard budget phone, with a Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 2,900mAh battery. The phone's standout feature is a large 5.7" display, with the low resolution of 720x1280 (again, because it's a budget phone). It shipped with Android 6.0, but now the T-Mobile model is getting a bump to 7.0 Nougat.

AT&T Galaxy S6, S6 edge, and S6 active are receiving their Android 7.0 Nougat updates

In the last month, both Sprint and Verizon have updated their Galaxy S6 and S6 edge units to Android 7.0 Nougat. These are some of the last phones to receive the 7.0 update, but hey, they're two-year old Samsung carrier devices. Now, AT&T is sending Nougat out to the Galaxy S6 (SM-G920A), Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G925A), and its exclusive Galaxy S6 active (SM-G890A).

Looks like Honor is honoring its promise, the 6X is supposedly getting Nougat sometime this month

When the Honor 6X launched earlier this year, you could say that we here at AP were unimpressed. Sure, the phone packed in a lot of good specs for $250, but it shipped with Marshmallow, a version of Android that was over a year old at that point (well, it still is). In March, Huawei's sub-brand launched a beta program for 6X owners to try out Nougat and the much improved EMUI 5 — the company promised that Android 7.0 would roll out in the first half of 2017. Looks like that may actually happen.

May 2017 Android platform distribution shows another big gain for Nougat and a small uptick for older versions

Google has updated the developer dashboard for May, giving us an overview of the Android device ecosystem. Nougat continues to inch upward at a respectable rate—it's now over 7% of devices. However, there's some strange stuff at the bottom of the heap. Gingerbread and Lollipop both saw small increases in usage share this month because math is weird.

Lenovo publishes Android 7.0 Nougat release notes for the Moto X Pure, update likely to follow

The wait for Android 7.0 might almost be over for users of the Moto X Pure. Lenovo has just pushed the release notes for that particular phone's future Nougat update. News of the soak test for the device went out about a month ago, and it looks like the update might almost be ready for things to go live. There's no word on OTAs being released yet, though.

Sony adds the Xperia XZs to its Open Device Program

Sony has added yet another handset to its Open Device Program. This time it's the Xperia XZs. With older brothers, the Xperia XZ and the X Performance, already on the list, it was only a matter of time before the newer flagship made its way to the program. Sony's support for the open source community is commendable, and this is more great news for developers hoping to play with custom builds of Nougat on their Xperia devices.
