Jelly Bean Now Rolling Out To The ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700T) In The US

Last week, ASUS promised Jelly Bean to TF201 and TF700 owners, and while the former got its update right on time, there was an issue that prevented the update from being pushed to the latter. As a result, ASUS said the update would be available "early next week." Here we are, about as early as it can possibly get in the new week, and the OTA has already begun rolling out.

As expected, it brings Android 4.1.1 and all the enhancements that come along with it, including Project Butter and Google Now.

You can pull the update by heading into Settings > About tablet > System Firmware Update > Check now.

ASUS Transformer Prime TF201 Jelly Bean OTA Update Rolling Out Now

Wait no more, Transformer Prime owners - the Jelly Bean update 10.4.2.15 (Android 4.1.1) has just started rolling out! We've confirmed multiple sightings of the OTA popup in the States as well as Spain. Canada is on tonight's list too, and we'd like to get as many confirmations in other countries as possible, so post your country and whether you're seeing the JB update in the comments.

Here's what you should expect:

Upgrade OS from Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
Default enable System Bar Lock
Add Multiple Photo Selection feature
Support Connect Dock (Accessory)
Remove Adobe Flash support
Remove Wi-Fi Direct function support
Remove Press Reader

So, TF300 and TF201 are done, TF700 to follow tomorrow.

Official Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Update Reportedly Rolling Out In Europe, Starting With Poland

One of the most anticipated OS upgrades in recent Android history has reportedly begun in Europe (specifically, Poland) where official Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean firmware was discovered via Kies a couple of hours ago. Since no carrier marking was attached to the announcement by SamMobile's tracker, it looks like the update applies to the unlocked, unbranded variant localized to Poland - specifically, GT-I9300MBDXEO. Google Now and the updated Google Search, offline speech recognition, Project Butter, expandable notifications - it's all there.

Earlier this month, Samsung promised that the international S III units would start seeing Android 4.1 as soon as October, so it appears the company is actually ahead of schedule.

[Update: It's Back] PSA: It's Not Just You - Google Now Servers Are Currently Down

Many users - myself, Artem, and several other AP team members included - got an error just a bit ago stating that "There is a problem communicating with Google servers," but this issue seems to only be affecting Jelly Bean devices. Makes perfect sense, too - looks like Google Now is the only thing currently down, as Talk, Drive, GMail, Calendar, Movies, Music, Magazines, Books, Maps, the Play Store, and pretty much all other Google Services are currently fully functional.

If you've flashed Now onto your ICS device, you should be experiencing this error, as well.

Update: It looks like Google Now is back.

First CyanogenMod 10 Nightly Officially Arrives For The Tegra 3 One X

CyanogenMod 10 nightlies have finally landed for the international version of HTC's One X, and you can download the first build right here. As the owner of such a One X, I find myself particularly interested in this bit of news, because I'm rather curious how much better this phone will be running stock[-ish] Jelly Bean. The One X is a truly fantastic piece of hardware, but its software has always left something to be desired, especially after you've lived with Sense 4.0 for a few months.

Hit up the source link to download the latest build now. And don't forget to back up before you flash - nightly builds can be a bumpy ride, especially early in the release cycle.

In my reviews, I frequently abuse and pick apart TouchWiz, Sense, and MotoBlur. I point out flaws, say "that's stupid," and wonder what the heck was going on when someone approved whatever half-baked change they've come up with. A lot of the UIs shipping on phones today are bad.

But it's not just the 3rd-party skins. Stock Android isn't perfect either, and that's what we're here to talk about today. Jelly Bean has all sorts of confusing user interfaces, weird bugs, things that don't make any sense, and things that desperately need polishing.

I criticize because I care - that goes for Sense, TouchWiz, and MotoBlur too.

Samsung Drops First Jelly Bean Kernel Source, For Euro Version Of Galaxy S III LTE (GT-i9305)

Samsung has just released the kernel source for one its devices running Jelly Bean for the first time; specifically, the Galaxy S III LTE that will be released in various markets across Europe (such as the UK's Everything Everywhere network) next month.

This version of the phone, though, is significantly different from the LTE-enabled variant we have here in the US. Instead of a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, the GT-i9305 Galaxy S III is using an Exynos 4412 quad-core in tandem with an in-house Samsung LTE baseband chip. This phone was actually released in Korea (albeit with Android 4.0) some time ago.

Samsung Reportedly Confirms That The International Galaxy S III Will Get Jelly Bean "As Soon As" October

Speaking to CNET UK, Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy S III sold abroad will be getting Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) "as soon as" October. Which sounds wonderfully non-committal. Though if that October estimate holds true, it'd probably be a record for Samsung. Perhaps they've finally realized people care about OS updates.

We've already seen leaks of Jelly Bean firmware for the international S III, as well as the T-Mobile edition in the US, so this sounds about right to us. When the LTE version of the S III launches in the UK on the Everything Everywhere network, it will actually come with Android 4.1 pre-installed.

Official Jelly Bean Test OTAs Leak For The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 And Galaxy Note 10.1

The crew over at SamMobile have gotten their hands on some nice treats for Tab 2 7.0 and Note 10.1 owners: builds of Android 4.1.1 for both devices. Of course, these aren't finalized builds, but rather a first look at what Jelly Bean will be like on the aforementioned tablets.

Both versions are OTAs flashable via Odin on top of specific stock builds.

Latest Android Distribution Stats Now Available – Jelly Bean Reaches 1.2%, Gingerbread Still Dominates At 57.5%

With the end of another month, we now have another set of Android platform distribution numbers to look at. Updated today, the stats reveal that Gingerbread is still dominating by quite a large margin, with Ice Cream Sandwich climbing and Jelly Bean making its own gains. Take a look for yourself:

First up is Gingerbread. While its stranglehold on the distribution chart is still going strong, it has dropped off just a little bit since the last cycle, sliding from 60.3% of all devices to 57.5% last month. Ice Cream Sandwich, meanwhile, has climbed from 15.8% to nearly 21%, which definitely sounds promising.
