Lenovo might not be the most prodigious maker of Android tablets around, but it's got its followers. Those who bought the 9.7-inch IdeaTab A2109 model, check your Tablet Settings: users on Lenovo's official forums are reporting that their hardware is being updated to Android 4.1.1 (A2109A_A411_03_13_121126_US) today. So far only American users have confirmed the over-the-air download or the WiFi tablet.

If you're not getting your update, there's a flashable US ZIP hosted on Lenovo's servers, ripe for the taking. While China's favorite PC manufacturer tends to leave their hands off of the core of Android, they also bundle in a whole lot of extra apps, which is why you'll need nearly 400MB of free space for the Jelly Bean upgrade.

Update: It appears this RUU may be improperly labeled, as we're hearing it fails to flash on a number of CIDs which it should be compatible with.

If you're the owner of a European model HTC One X, you're probably chomping at the bit to get your update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. While that update has begun rolling out in parts of Asia, it has yet to show up anywhere else. Today, though, HTCRUU published an official RUU file (a full, flashable ROM) for the One X in its unlocked European flavor - software version 3.14.401.27, based on Android 4.1 with Sense 4+.

Motorola has once again updated its device update page, clarifying the Jelly Bean situation for a number of pieces of hardware. The following notable devices have had their update schedules changed or more precisely laid out:

  • ATRIX HD: Jelly Bean rollout in Dec. 2012
  • XOOM LTE: Jelly Bean rollout in Q1 2013
  • Electrify M: Jelly Bean rollout in Q1 2013
  • RAZR HD (Canada): Jelly Bean rollout in Q1 2013
  • ATRIX HD (Canada): Jelly Bean rollout in Q1 2013
  • RAZR i: Jelly Bean rollout in Q1 2013

There have been changes for other regions, as well, and you can check them out on the software upgrade page, here.

Ok - here's the deal. A Google Search update happened, which means it's teardown time. Normally I post about unreleased, work-in-progress stuff, but Google Now is so context dependent, that it's pretty much impossible for me to tell if something is implemented or not. The one thing I've learned from my months of using Now is that Google Now is in charge, and you're just along for the ride. So, for today's post, we're just going to shoot for "new things that didn't make it onto the 'What's New' list." If you can get them to show up, awesome. Send me a screenshot and I'll update.

Normally I rip apart APKs looking for news-worthy items and unreleased features, but I've covered everything that's currently out, so this teardown session is going to be a little different. During my usual digging for features, I've stumbled across a surprising amount of unused files, movie references, and canceled beta assets. I've always thought it was a shame that no one knows about them, so today we'll be exploring all the crazy leftover files that ship on our phones and tablets. If you've ever checked out the deleted scenes section of a DVD, this article will be right up your alley.

Still stuck with an Epic 4G Touch (or stuck a relative with your old one)? If you've been holding off on flashing some of the previously leaked Jelly Bean builds for fear of stability or finality, Sextape has released what is rumored to be the final build that will go out as an over the air update some time in the near future.

Build FK23 can be downloaded here, and is relatively easy to flash. Here are the instructions

1. Download stock TAR.MD5 file (link)
2. Download Odin (see thread)
3. Download appropriate drivers (see thread)
4.

Update: According to Verizon, the Jelly Bean rollout for the RAZR HD and MAXX HD will begin next week.

The Verizon support site has been updated with Android 4.1 update docs for the RAZR HD (and the MAXX HD).

The update rollout process should follow soon, in the next week or two. The Android 4.1 update brings, as you well know by now, expandable notifications, Google Now, and a variety of tweaks like Project Butter, to make your phone run smoother than ever.

After beginning its steady march to wide release in Germany a few weeks ago, the Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) update for the Galaxy Note 10.1 is making its way to more European nations today. The UK, Spain, and various Nordic nations (presumably Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland) have the firmware available now (grab it here or here), if you're feeling impatient. Otherwise, just keep hitting that "check update" button over the next week or two, and sweet Jelly Bean goodness should be on its way to you shortly.

This presumably includes the "Premium Suite" upgrade we covered last week, that enhances multi-windows functionality, adds air view, and many other features found on the Note II smartphone.

If you have a European or Asian model One X (read: Not AT&T), start frantically hitting that check update button - it's peanut butter jelly Jelly Bean time. We're hearing from multiple sources that HTC is beginning to roll out Jelly Bean to the One X in various regions today.

This update brings Android 4.1.1 and Sense 4+. Expandable notifications, Google Now, and some fairly minor tweaks like a new Gallery app in Sense are in tow. Sense also now has wonky holo blue highlights throughout the OS, so that's cool, I guess.

If you can't see the update on your phone, we've got a pretty easy explanation: your particular CID (a regional hardware identifier code, typically by country or carrier) hasn't had Jelly Bean rolled out to it.

For many users, if an official firmware update for their device isn't available, a leaked ROM will do just as well. Owners of Samsung's International Galaxy SII (I9100) willing to run leaked firmware will be happy to know that today, XDA user izap has provided Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (build JZO54K.I9100XXLSJ) firmware for all to enjoy.

Of course, there have been rumblings that the SII will receive an official update to 4.1 this month, but sooner is always better, right? Users are reporting that the leaked build is working just fine, though as with any unreleased firmware, your mileage may vary.
