Motorola RAZR i Android 4.1 Update Now Rolling Out In The UK

After an initial debut in France, Motorola has begun distributing the Android 4.1 update to RAZR i handsets in the UK today. Just hit that 'Check for update' button as often as possible over the next week or two, and you should be able to get it. Here's Motorola's statement on the rollout.

We’re excited to announce that MOTOROLA RAZR™ i with Intel Inside is getting upgraded to Android™ 4.1 Jelly Bean. Starting today, the upgrade will be rolled out to users in phases. Jelly Bean includes a number of fantastic new and improved features, including Google Now, Voice Search, and improved notifications.

If you own a French RAZR i, time to start hitting that 'check update' button. The update to Android 4.1.2 is officially beginning to roll out, and in Q1 2013 - as promised.

If you want the update right now, but are afraid of losing root, there's good news on that front, too: you can. The new root instructions and files are located here. An updated, pre-rooted fastboot file can be found here, which should put your unlocked RAZR i on French firmware. Instructions on how to do this are located in the same thread.

HTC-Made Au Infobar A02 Set To Hit Japan In Mid-February, Marrying A Highly Stylized Android UI With Playful Hardware Design

Au's Infobar phone line has been around since 2001, always featuring plenty of color and hoping to bring innovative ideas to the smartphone world through eye-popping, unique design. Bringing another stylized entry to the lineup, Au has posted a brief dossier on the new Infobar A02, designed by Naoto Fukasawa and manufactured by HTC.

One of the device's main claims to fame is its apparent use of HTC's ImageSense chip, allowing for smooth burst capture. It's also waterproof and dustproof, and has plenty of specs to ogle. Among them are its 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 4.7" 720p display, 8MP camera, LTE support, and microSD slot.

Sony Releases A Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) Alpha ROM For Unlocked Xperia T, Though It's In A Devs-Only State

Way back in December 2011, Sony began releasing 'alpha' developer ROMs for some of its phones being upgraded to Android 4.0. Then it released beta ROMs that did slightly more stuff. Now it's done the same with Android 4.1 for the Xperia T.

These ROMs are developer-facing in every sense of the word, though, and aren't intended as a way for power users to get early access to the next version of Android. Most things that consumers, you know, use, are turned off.

Google Mobile Services (GMS) apps are not included (for example, Gmail and Google Maps).

Modem is turned off and therefore the SIM card will not be recognised (this also means you can’t make any phone calls).

HTC Holiday (Vivid/Raider/Velocity) Added To CyanogenMod Roster With First Official CM10 Weekly

After more than a month of unofficial CyanogenMod builds, the HTC Holiday (also known as the Vivid, Raider, or Velocity) has joined the ranks of devices with official CM support, receiving its first weekly CM10 build earlier today. It's not yet clear when or if the Holiday's build cycle will transition to a nightly schedule.

At the time of writing, the build's known issues involve Bluetooth Audio skipping, hardware video playback, tethering, and the inability to record video in 1080p. Otherwise, the Holiday's first weekly looks like daily driver material.

Dan Rosenberg Blesses Droid RAZR/MAXX Users With Root For The 'Unrootable' Jelly Bean 4.1 OTA

Winning a $450 bounty and the hearts of Droid RAZR/MAXX users, Dan Rosenberg has found a successful root method for the phone's 4.1 JellyBean OTA, which began rolling out last Christmas Eve.

Some readers are likely familiar with Mr. Rosenberg's work, as he's rooted everything in sight from the Droid RAZR/MAXX HD to the RAZR M, all the way back to the LG Spectrum. As a security researcher, he's even given (and published) a helpful presentation on rooting and modding for the security conscious.

Not only can Droid RAZR/MAXX owners now root their Jelly Bean powered handsets, they can do it with ease – the process is as simple as connecting the phone and running a .bat file.

[CES 2013] The Rest Of Alcatel's CES Lineup – One Touch Evo 7/HD, Tab 7/HD, Tab 8 HD, And One Touch S'Pop, T'Pop, X'Pop

After revealing the "world's thinnest" smartphone earlier today with the One Touch Idol Ultra (at a svelte 6.45mm), Alcatel has let fly news about the rest of their planned CES 2013 lineup.

Alcatel's got more devices in line than you've got pockets, from a pair of 7" tablets (in standard and HD variants) to a bevy of "Pop" smartphones, all of them apparently aiming squarely for the budget market. Grab a snack, because we're going to take a peek at the full array.

One Touch Tablets

Evo 7 / HD

First up is the Evo 7 and its HD counterpart (despite how it sounds, neither tablet has anything to do with HTC). Both variants are described as Wi-Fi tablets that can be "easily upgraded" to 3G (or, in the Evo 7 HD's case, 4G) through their removable 3G/4G modules.

HTC One X Gets Jelly Bean 4.1 (3.14.206.27) On O2 UK, With A Spoonful of Alphabet Soup

Don't say we don't love you, United Kingdom readers. Those of you rocking an HTC One X on the O2 network should check your settings menu, if you haven't gotten the update already. HTC representatives have taken to Twitter to announce the arrival of Android 4.1 to the former flagship handheld, and users on the company forums have confirmed the upgrade to software version 3.14.206.27. It looks like a nationwide rollout this ~~morning~~ afternoon, so warm up that wireless connection if you want some Sense-flavored Jelly Bean.

Unfortunately, neither HTC nor O2 have graced us with a changelog, so we've only got users' word for the changes at the moment.

Toshiba Excite 7.7 Jelly Bean Update Rolling Out Now

Given Toshiba's track record with Android updates, I thought I'd never get to write this post. Alas, here it is – Android 4.1.1 is officially rolling out to the Excite 7.7. At first blush, it looks like Toshiba did a good job on this one. It actually uses the new "hybrid UI" (like on the Nexus 7), which leads to a much better experience on smaller slates like the 7.7.

The update clocks in at a cool 348MB, so be prepared to wait for just a bit to grab this Jelly Bean goodness. Past that, though, I see absolutely nothing to complain about – this update really does make a great tablet even better.

Samsung Drops Jelly Bean Source For Verizon Galaxy S III

While the day after Christmas is rarely an exciting one in terms of tech news - aside from the length / level of disgruntledness of return lines around the US - we do have a tidbit for developers this morning. The Verizon Galaxy S III, recently updated to Android 4.1, now has matching source code. Samsung released the Jelly Bean-based source this morning (software version LK3), and you can get it at the source link (pun very much intended on this boring day) below.
