While the Nexus elite have since moved on to KitKat, there are still a lot of devices just getting by with some flavor of Jelly Bean. At least Sony is keeping its promise of updating devices to the latest version of that sweet-themed platform. Android 4.3 is beginning to make its way to the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, And Xperia Tablet Z.

It's been half a year since HTC's impressive upgrade to the Butterfly hit shelves, and in all that time it hasn't received a significant update. But if a report from well-known HTC insider LlabTooFeR is correct, the Butterfly S is in the process of being upgraded to Android 4.3 right now. It's also getting the slightly newer Sense 5.5, as seen on the HTC One Max, and decidedly not seen on updated versions of 4.3 for the original One in the United States.

You know what? There are entirely too many versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4. I feel like I've written this same story a half-dozen times, though that's probably because it's essentially the same software update across the Galaxy S4, S III, and Note II. In any case, if you're rocking Samsung's 2013 flagship on budget carrier Cricket, you might see an over the air update prompt today: it's your turn to get Android 4.3.

If you own a Verizon HTC One, it's time to start tapping that "check for updates" button. Following Friday's announcement by HTC of an Android 4.3 firmware update, Verizon has updated its support PDF for the device with a full changelog. The new firmware version is 2.10.605.1. In addition to the obvious OS upgrade, there seems to be a fair number of bug fixes including:

  • Increased charging speed when using Mophie Juicepack power station
  • Corrected faint ringing noise from earpiece
  • Play purchased ringtones
  • Connection error fixed in the HTC Watch application
  • View the correct date using the all day calendar reminder
  • Conjunction words are better recognized on device keyboard
  • Backup Assistant performance

Update: Looks like it's rolling out now.

It's been a busy week or two for Sony fans. First we get a Google Play Edition of the Z Ultra, then the AOSP On Xperia project expands to the low-cost Xperia L, and now owners of Sony's high-end phones are starting to get their long-awaited Jelly Bean 4.3 updates. According to this Sony blog update, both the Xperia Z1 and the enormous Z Ultra should be getting the over-the-air update starting today, at least for unlocked versions.

Remember when T-Mobile didn't have LTE service? You know, just under two years ago? Remember when they released a version of the Galaxy S III without LTE (SGH-T999), then another with LTE (SGH-T999L), ensuring that some customers would be pissed and others would be confused? If you do, and you bought the latter LTE-enabled version of Samsung's 2012 flagship, check your status bar: you might just have a software update waiting.

T-Mobile customers with the Galaxy Note II, your day has finally arrived: the Jelly Bean 4.3 over-the-air update is finally rolling out, according to this XDA thread. Samsung's Galaxy S4, S III, and the Note II have been getting the same update on other American carriers, but T-Mobile is behind the leaked release schedule (though not by much). The Note II is the last Samsung phone on T-Mobile scheduled to get the update, at least for the moment.

Maybe you were hoping to be munching on some KitKat by now, but you'll have to make do with more jelly beans. The C Spire variant of the Galaxy S4 is getting the long-awaited OTA to Android 4.3 starting now. You should have a pretty good handle on what that means by now.

ROM news for the last month or so have been focused on KitKat, but if you prefer your customized Android software in a more reliable flavor, Cyanogen has you covered. CyanogenMod 10.2, the CM build of Jelly Bean 4.3, just landed on the download page. You can stroll over there right now and get your Android 4.3 on.

CyanogenMod stable builds are the most reliable and complete packages offered by the custom ROM team, and generally have no bugs or incompatibilities (or at least no more than the standard AOSP builds).

The 4.3 update for this and other Samsung phones packs more than the usual updated software: it also makes Samsung's later phones compatible with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, previously restricted to the Galaxy Note 3.
