[Updated: Update Should Start Tonight, But Maybe Not For Everyone] Verizon: Motorola Droid X Gingerbread Update Starts Friday

UPDATE: According to Droid Life, the update should start tonight, but it may just be a "soak test", for users that signed up via Motorola's support forums. That's not entirely confirmed at this point, so if you happen to get the update, drop us a line.

A couple of notes from Motorola about the update:

  • The update will be pushed late tonight. If you go to bed, it should be waiting for you in the morning.

Urgent: Leaked Thunderbolt Gingerbread Radio May Cause Hard Bricks - We Advise You Revert To Froyo

When we leaked the official ROM and radio image for the HTC Thunderbolt's Gingerbread update last week, users were understandably excited. An official Sense, Gingerbread ROM was probably highest on the list of demands for Thunderbolt users (aside from better battery life, perhaps).

Unfortunately, at this time, we have to officially advise anyone using any ROM based on this leak to revert to a Froyo build or to CyanogenMod 7 as soon as possible.

Patch Enables Netflix App On Rooted HTC Thunderbolts Running Gingerbread ROMs

When we posted on the work-around for enabling the Netflix app on unsupported devices, more than a few of you weren't thrilled to hear that the fix didn't work on the Thunderbolt. We knew a fix would come eventually, and now we're happy to report that the developer community has delivered; they've found a way to get the Netflix app working on the Thunderbolt. Unfortunately, there is a bit of bad news, too: it only works on devices that are rooted and running a Gingerbread ROM.

What a week for Samsung Galaxy S family device owners! First, the Captivate was officially added to the list of devices supported by CyanogenMod, the largest Android ROM community in the world, and now not 1 but 3 more phones are following suit - the Galaxy S, the T-Mobile Vibrant, and the Sprint Nexus S 4G (crespo4g).

The news hit yesterday, but since no downloadable builds were available from the CM mirror network until late last night, we decided to wait until they're up.

CyanogenMod Gets First Official Galaxy S Release - Captivate Nightlies, Now Serving Gingerbread 2.3.4 (GRJ22) On Aisle You

Galaxy S owners, you may have a reason for some early celebration. CyanogenMod 7 for the GS variants, which has been around in relatively unsupported early alpha stages for the last couple of months, has just gone quite a bit more formal with the introduction of the new "captivatemtd" device branch.

What does it mean? Captivate is the first device of the Galaxy S bunch to move to the official CM download area in the form of nightlies.

[Updated: Now With Fast Mirror] HTC EVO 3D System Dump Leaked, Get It While It's Hot

Update: You can grab the system dump from our mirror here.

In part two of our exciting series of HTC leaks today is the system dump (I'm really trying not to make poop jokes, here) of the HTC EVO 3D, Sprint's upcoming flagship smartphone. Again, the intrepid 911sniper blog has provided the goods. I wonder if these things just fall off the back of trucks. Internet trucks, that is.

The EVO 3D is coming this summer, and we spent a little time with it back at CTIA in March (check out our hands-on here), and were thoroughly impressed.

[Download] [Updated] Working Official Gingerbread ROM For The HTC Thunderbolt

UPDATE: The Gingerbread radio is apparently being linked to hard bricks. We have removed the link for the time being, until this issue is resolved, or a new radio version is leaked.

This morning 911Sniper dropped a leaked Gingerbread test build for the HTC Thunderbolt, but there was one issue: it wasn't flashable. Our buddy Justin Case from TeamAndIRC immediately took it to the lab and started dissecting its parts to see what needed to be done.

Galaxy S And Tab To Get Gingerbread According To "Regional Plan" - Whatever The Hell That Means

Samsung has just announced via press release its plans to officially update its Galaxy S line of phones (yep, including North American ones) to Gingerbread starting this week, with the UK and Scandinavian countries first on the list to get the Ginger-bump. Samsung has again remained characteristically ambiguous about exactly which Galaxy S devices will be eligible (and when) for the update directly from Kies, Samsung's device management software.

It's entirely unclear if "North American" Galaxy S phones include the heavily carrier-customized versions of the device in the United States (Captivate, Fascinate, Vibrant, Epic), or merely unbranded Canadian versions of the phone and European imports that have snuck their way onto US shores.
