Droid X's Sexy Software Keyboard Ripped Out, Now Available For All Phones

Earlier today we reported that the Droid X internals were leaked out and provided to developers to play with. It didn't take long at all - Droid X's software keyboard is already available for everyone to download.

This keyboard should work for any Android phone running 2.1 Eclair (it reportedly force closes for most on Froyo). It looks very clean, mostly due to the absence of most non-alphanumeric characters which can be accessed using a familiar looking button on the bottom left.

One thing that is strikingly different about Droid X's keyboard is multi-touch. You can press one button while typing something else, which you can't do with other keyboards.

BREAKING: European HTC Hero Android 2.1 (Eclair) Update Finally Rolls Out, Nordic Countries Are Up First

Our chinned Hero brethren from Europe, it looks like your time has finally come - minutes ago, HTC posted a new update which finally brings the long-awaited Android 2.1 to your Heroes, following a small update earlier this week which was released in preparation for the big one

Update 1: it's another 1.5 update, though at 102MB and requiring a wipe. We jumped the gun a bit - apologies for giving you false hope. Why HTC would post another 1.5 update this large and requiring a wipe, if 2.1 is expected soon, which would require yet another wipe, is beyond me right now.

HTC Desire Coming To The US In August
Last Updated: December 30th, 2011

The popular in Europe HTC Desire handset is going to be heading to the US in August, HTC officially announced this morning via twitter:

HTC Desire Coming To The US In August

The device will feature the same specs as the European version: 1Ghz Snapdragon processor and Android 2.1 with Sense, HTC's PR rep Ricky tells us.

The only caveat in this announcement is the carrier choice - Desire will be going to regional carriers only, which means the big 4 - Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile - will not be involved.

No details yet on the pricing or exact launch date.

EVO 4G DamageControl v3.0 - Fast, Improved Battery Life, Tweaks

What a day for EVO 4G ROMs! Hot on the heels of the release of Fresh ROM for EVO, another former HTC Hero ROM developer damageless, notorious for his DamageControl Hero ROM, announced his version for the EVO.

DamageControl v3.0 is damageless' and his partner TrevE's first crack at customizing the EVO and making it both faster and much more battery efficient. First, a little introduction:

I am proud to present the first DamageControl ROM for the HTC Evo!

The ROMs I release are always focused on stability, speed, and ease of use.

My partner, TrevE and I, continue to present ROMs that are easy to update through an application that is bundled with the ROM, DCUpdater (based upon cm-updater).

Fresh Evo 0.1d - Better, Faster, More Battery Efficient, With Bloatware Apps Removed

EVO 4G users, listen up! Flipz, the creator of one of the best custom ROMs for CDMA HTC Hero - Fresh ROM, has dropped his first version of a custom ROM for the EVO 4G a few hours ago.

The ROM is faster and more efficient than the stock ROM due to optimizations and bloatware removal (yup, the bloated apps provided by Sprint and some HTC ones are moved to the SD card and disabled!). It also comes with some visual changes.

Android 2.1 Eclair for now but will be updated to 2.2 Froyo as soon as humanly possible.

Of course, if you know Flipz, this is all just the beginning.

Apple iOS 3 & 4 VS Android 2.1

In This Corner!

For better or worse Apple has dropped their latest update regarding the groundbreaking iPhone this week along with the official release date for their next version of the phone’s operating system, which has now been dubbed ‘iOS’.

Apple iOS 3 & 4 VS Android 2.1 "Eclair" & 2.2 "Froyo": Fight!

A big thanks to Ian Douglas for all the work he did putting the chart together, and to my fiancee for the image

The announcement comes on the heels of last Friday’s uber-successful launch of the Sprint EVO 4G, which shares many of the same features with the new iPhone. This puts consumers in an interesting spot – as the hardware and software offerings from both the Apple and Android camps begin to share more and more of the same features, it becomes increasingly difficult for a consumer with no allegiance to either side to choose the phone that best suits their needs.

Nexus One Gets 720p HD Video Recording In A Patch To CyanogenMod

Nexus One is still alive and pretty much kicking, especially thanks to the community. Since Google won't push new features to it, the community has to.

First Cyanogen added support for 802.11n WiFi in CyanogenMod, and now about half an hour ago, an xda-developers forum member by the name of charnsingh_online announced that he made a patch for CyanogenMod which enabled 720p video recording in the Nexus One.

The only requirement - CyanogenMod version of at least CM5.0.8test3, which means - yes, you need a rooted N1 running CM and not the stock OS.

His solution doesn't yet work in Froyo, but expect support for that to come out shortly.
