Update: Oops! Looks like Google classified this one as dead just a bit too early – it's back for a thirtieth go in the Play Store. If you want one, you should probably buy it now before they really do disappear forever.

Shortly after slimming down the Play Store's selection of Nexus 7 cases, it looks like Google has brought out the axe again, this time aiming it at the Nexus 4 Bumper. The bumper, which enjoyed an absolute roller coaster ride during its tenure, finally ended its on-again-off-again relationship with the Play Store today, with no warning at all.

Nexus 4 bumper cases have been out of stock on the US Play Store for at least a month now, but today they've finally returned - same price, same place.

The official Nexus 4 bumper will run you $20 plus tax and shipping, which is indeed quite pricey for such a simple little item. While Google does seem to have stabilized Nexus 4 stock in the last month, it's more than a bit befuddling to me that they can't keep a cheap piece of plastic in stock to match the demand of the phone for which it is exclusively built.

I'm going to be up front: I want Glass. I'm thoroughly intrigued with the idea, I love the possibility of having an always-available camera that sees whatever I see, and completely hands-free Google sounds like a perfectly natural progression of the things like Google Now and voice actions. In the world where personal digital assistants seem commonplace, why should we not expect those things to be always accessible and visible?

Well, apparently there are a lot of reasons. And don't get me wrong. There are many legitimate causes to be skeptical. As is typical of the tech community, however, some things people have focused on are completely silly.

Since the Nexus 10's launch, users have been itching to make use of the device's pogo pins. No word has yet emerged from either Google or Samsung about the dock we spied last Christmas or the pogo charger many assumed was in the works, but in mid-December, a thread sprung up on XDA opened by a person who claimed to have the fabled pogo charging cable in the works and nearly ready for sale. Wikipad Announces 7" Gaming Tablet For $249, Company Discusses Cancelled 10" Version

One of these days, we're finally going to figure this whole buttons problem for Android devices. While touchscreens are great, the tactile feeling of physical controls will always have its appeal. Some solutions are better than others, but maybe the Wikipad can find the sweet spot. The tablet comes with an attached set of game controls that can be removed, leaving the player with a regular 7" Tegra 3 tablet. The entire unit costs $250.

Here are the specs for the tablet itself:

  • 7" 1280x800 IPS display (up to 5-point multitouch)
  • Tegra 3
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB storage (expandable w/ 32GB micro SD)
  • 2MP front-camera

The attached buttons actually make this look a lot like a Wii U tablet, but this one is running Android 4.1.

Mobile data hotspots aren't the world's most exciting products, though if you travel consistently, they can be an absolute lifesaver. But let's be brutally honest: the average mobile data consumer really doesn't care about the hotspot itself - as long as it works. They care about the network, and the monthly pricing. That's really it.

The hotspot is basically just a tiny little Wi-Fi router with a cellular modem and a lithium-ion battery inside. If it functions properly, you only remember it exists when the battery dies. If it doesn't, it's the worst thing in the universe, and you actively contemplate just how many pieces it would shatter into after a fall from the 4th story window of Homewood Suites.
