Verizon Wireless' LTE Rollout Is Two Months Ahead Of Schedule, Launching Its 400th Market On October 18th

Two years ago, Verizon Wireless announced plans to launch a nationwide 4G LTE network. Since then, the company has launched hundreds of LTE markets, and that number keeps growing by dozens every single month. In fact, it will launch its 400th LTE market - Marquette, MI - along with 20 other new markets, on October 18th.

Four-hundred markets is an impressive feat no doubt, but what makes it even more incredible is that VZW is running two months ahead of schedule. Too bad they can't get OTA updates out that fast. Ba-zing!

UK Expected To Beat 4G Goal By Six Months, Mobile Spectrum Auction To Begin In Late 2012

It looks like mobile device users in the UK can expect 4G services to begin rolling out a bit sooner than previously expected – six months sooner, to be specific.

The Wallstreet Journal reported Tuesday that the UK government has struck a deal with the UK's four largest mobile operators which will enable the auction of 4G mobile spectrum to begin at the end of 2012, with bidding beginning in early 2013.

The deal, which comes after rumblings that Vodafone and O2 were considering legal action against Everything Everywhere (EE) to stop it launching its own 4G service, was closed on by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Leak: Sprint 4G LTE Will Be Lighting Up In Boston And Chicago In The Next Week

According to an internal document sent to us by a tipster, Sprint will be turning on the four-gee taps in two major US cities this week - Boston and Chicago. As we know, Sprint is in something of a panic-mode in regard to its 4G rollout, and has decided to begin bringing its network online in some locations before it's fully ready. As you can see in the document below, that is exactly what's happening here.

While Sprint isn't ready to call it "launch" time, it's telling employees that they should be informing customers that 4G coverage is being rolled out, and is accessible in "certain areas," but that the experience may not be "optimal." This basically lines up with a press release Sprint sent out earlier this week, which stated that LTE may be available in some regions before an official launch, and that customers are "free to use it" (read: don't complain if it sucks).

Sprint And Samsung Announce The Galaxy Victory 4G LTE - $99.99 (After MIR), Available Sept. 16th

Samsung and Sprint let loose the Galaxy Victory today, a not-quite-budget phone that we saw leaked back in May, then again in July. The official announcement basically seems to confirm what we already knew about the device: that it's not exactly anything to get excited over.

The Victory is packing a 4" WVGA (800x480) SAMOLED Plus display, powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor of unknown lineage (we're guessing a clocked-down version of the Qualcomm MSM8960 S4). Our earlier leaks suggested 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, and that still appears to be the case. There's a microSD slot on board, as well, to expand the latter figure.

EE To Bring 4G To 16 UK Cities By The End Of The Year, Launch Devices Include The Samsung Galaxy S III LTE And HTC One XL

Everything Everywhere, the company behind Orange and T-Mobile, announced today that it will bring 4G to 16 major cities in the UK by the end of the year.

The new network will launch as 'EE', and will run alongside Orange and T-Mobile. London, Birmingham, Cardiff, and Bristol will be the first four cities with 4G capability, with testing starting in those areas today. Before the end of the year, that list will include Belfast, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Southampton.

Three Android devices - the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, the HTC One XL, and Samsung's Galaxy S III LTE - will be launched with the network in the coming weeks, but the company says that more devices will be added in the future.

AT&T LG Escape 4G LTE Official: 4.3" qHD IPS Display, Android 4.0, $50 On Contract - Available Sept. 16

Budget on AT&T just got a little better, as the carrier has announced the LG Escape, a 4.3" entry-level Ice Cream Sandwich phone that will be available next week online and in stores. Here's a quick breakdown of the specifications:

  • 4.3" qHD IPS display (960x540) with Gorilla Glass
  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor (most likely a down-clocked Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960)
  • Android 4.0
  • 4GB interal storage
  • 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 2150mAh battery
  • LTE support

While it's not the most exciting phone ever, at just $50 on contract, it's probably going to get a lot of attention at AT&T's retail stores (as most budget phones do).

Sprint Bringing Its 4G LTE Network To 'More Than 100 Cities In The Coming Months'

AT&T has certainly had a busy night, rolling out 4G LTE to no less than 7 cities in 6 different states. The company has also announced that it will bring the service to another 45 cities before the end of 2012.

DROID RAZR And MAXX HD For Verizon Official: 4.7" 720P Display, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4, Android 4.0

Verizon is presently announcing its brand-new smartphone lineup, and they've started with the DROID RAZR HD, and its MAXX sibling.

Both are sporting 4.7" SAMOLED Gorilla Glass displays, but Motorola says they have the same size footprint as the original RAZR, which is pretty impressive. The S4 Snapdragon dual-core processor powers these devices, and they will run Android 4.0 out of the box. Motorola, however, has said both will have Jelly Bean before the year's end. They will be available "before the holidays" according to Verizon.

PSA: T-Mobile's New Actually Unlimited Unlimited Data Plan Launches Today

T-Mobile has long been known for, uh, stretching the definition of unlimited data here in the US with its soft data caps. But today, T-Mobile is officially launching its new unlimited data plan. The difference? It's actually unlimited, unlike the other unlimited data plans T-Mobile still offers. Making sense yet?

T-Mobile's plans have always been super-duper confusing to me (and everyone, I would think), and today, they're making things slightly simpler. I think. Here is the arrangement of the new "Classic" plans, with the new Unlimited Nationwide 4G in the middle:

The catch is that the new Unlimited Nationwide 4G doesn't come with mobile hotspot service.
