When you name your game "One Epic Game", you have one of two options: either fill your game with high-powered hardware, gnarly baddies, and over-the-top villains, or not take it seriously and call it ironic. Game developer Grip Games chose to do both. One Epic Game is a side-scroller set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies that's aware of just how trite that premise is.

OEG has a very self-aware sense of humor that feels like it shouldn't be as funny as it is. The game literally begins with our hero asking a zombie why so many games have zombies in them.

Minecraft is the world's most popular online multiplayer not-quite-Lego creativity tool/game with 8-bit graphics and zombies. It's also an Android game. Until recently, though, Minecraft Pocket Edition was limited to creativity mode, only a few materials, and players lacked the ability to fly. Today, that all changes. Minecraft Pocket Edition just got a whole lot more like Minecraft Normal Edition with the addition of Survival Mode, plus a ton of other new features.

With version 0.2.0, the developer has added Survival mode which, for the uninitiated, is the only "game" part of this game. In Survival Mode, you need to find and collect materials you build with, hunt for food, and when the sun sets, hide from the monsters that want to kill you and destroy all your precious creations.

Glu Mobile has done it again, introducing INFECTED to the Android Market today. Glu's latest mobile game jumps on the zombie bandwagon, following the story of a "strange virus," which has begun infecting citizens of New York City, transforming them into "insane, violent zombies."

INFECTED uses a gameplay style strongly reminiscent of tower defense, replacing towers with civilians, and turrets with defenses ranging from NYC cops to muggers, limousines, oil tankers, and more. Players can unlock additional defenses and weapons by earning zollars or purchasing ziomonds in game.

Adding a unique social element to its gameplay, INFECTED allows users to log in using their Facebook or OpenFeint accounts, which will transform the player's friends into in-game civilians.

Xoobis brought the cartoon zombie-shooting fun of Zombie Wonderland to Android today, introducing Zombie Wonderland 2: Outta Time to the Android Market. The game centers around Chuck, a man with the rather unusual job title of Zombie Cleaner. Players are invited to shoot first and mop later, blowing through 25 types of zombies in over 30 missions, taking place in 12 unique locations.

Once you're done shooting up every zombie in sight, however, you must clean up the mess in order to please your clients. If you fail to clean up all the zombie guts you've just spilled, you'll have to pay damages.

It has been about five months since Glu Mobile dropped Contract Killer into the Market, bringing all sorts of awesome first person shooter action along with it. They're back with a new take on the title, throwing a more blood thirsty element to the mix: zombies.

This go around you play the role of Shooter, a killer on a mission to slay as many undead as possible. The gameplay is nearly identical to that of the original Contract Killer, but instead of knocking off people who are out to kill you, you're dropping those who are trying to eat you.

Usually, when video games and zombies cross paths, the latter end up being our enemies. Because of their slow, plodding and plentiful nature, target practice against zombies is a fun (and scary) endeavor. However, in Com2uS' newest title, you're put in a unique position: this time, you're trying to save a zombie from his untimely death.

In Zombie Runaway you take control of a zombie who is running away (duh) from "evil" humans. In its way are multiple gravestones, monuments and spiky barriers that can all spell doom for our unlikely hero.

These obstacles come at you from one of three lanes; you can shift left or right to dodge, or jump straight over them to continue.

Everyone who knows me is aware of my absolute love for zombies. If there's anything that I love more than zombies - it's fragging the ever-living hell out of them with an array of weapons that would impress even the most violent-minded among us. It's not very often that I get the opportunity to do such a thing, but Biofrenzy: Frag The Zombies brings that exact experience to my handheld.

Biofrenzy is a 2D sidescroller where you fight for your life against a seemingly endless hoard of flesh devouring bio-infected freaks - but not without a massive arsenal at your disposal.

Call me a stickler, but I think games should play well before looking pretty. I think they should be functional, polished and most of all, not frustrating. This seems to elude most developers who insist on using on-screen joysticks for their products, as more often than not they're a buggy, non-responsive mess.

From having poorly-defined boundaries to not reacting to multi-touch well, the system seems to be a bit flawed.

However, Halfbrick studios (the developers of the wildly-successful Fruit Ninja) have finally managed to code some joysticks that work straight out of the box, no tweaking required. Their newest game, Age of Zombies, relies quite heavily on them, so I'm both glad and relieved that they've decided to make sure people can actually play their game before they've released it to the wild.

plants-vs-zombies

Are you ready for some Plants vs. Zombies? We know you've been waiting for it (I certainly have). Just a little bit longer: Plants vs. Zombies will be available on the Amazon App Store starting late this month (presumably May 30 or 31) for the low, low price of free. The app will be free on its debut-day (May 30), then for 2 weeks will be exclusively available on the Amazon App Store, in a deal similar to that which Rovio had with Amazon upon the release of Angry Birds Rio.

PopCap games, the developer of Plants vs. Zombies, has also revealed that the developer's second most popular title, Chuzzle, will be hitting the Amazon App Store tomorrow.

Earlier this month, along with the CNN app for tablets, Google demoed 2 3D games that utilized both of Tegra 2's CPU cores - Monster Madness and Great Battles. The former of these games, Monster Madness, just quietly crept into the Android Market with a hefty $10 price tag. The price of 2 Starbucks coffees is a bit steep for a game, but not unheard of.

So, what does Monster Madness offer you? Zombies, upgradeable weapons, power-ups, destructible worlds, and great 3D graphics, powered by Unreal Engine 3. Not a bad package at all, don't you think? Additionally, local co-op mode via Wi-Fi means you can gang up on those monsters with your friends who can jump in and out of the game as they please.
