16 new phones and tablets get Lineage 18.1 ROMs

Including Asus, Lenovo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Sony

Lineage OS the premiere custom Android ROM, and one of the best things about it is that it's constantly expanding. Over the last few weeks the distributed team has added no less than sixteen new phones and tablets from a handful of vendors.

TeamWin Recovery Project, or TWRP for short, is the best custom recovery software out there. It can help you install ROMs, make full-device backups, and anything in between. Now the project has officially extended support to eight more phones.

It's been about six months since Android Pie launched, and we're still waiting on updates for quite a few phones. Some OEMs haven't even talked about which phones will get the update, but Asus has finally spilled the beans on its OTA plans. Well, some of the beans. There's a list of phones that will get Pie, but we don't have a specific timeline.

Asus has promised to release Android Marshmallow for many of its ZenFone devices by the second quarter of 2016 and it seems to be rushing now to make good on its deadline. The first device to get the update was the ZenFone 2 Laser ZE500KL and ZE550KL, and today another model joins it: the ZenFone Max.

What do you do when your phone is running low on battery and you must make a phone call because the wife expects you to do some grocery shopping before you get home or because your tummy has started rumbling and your only path to salvation is through the gooey cheese-stuffed crusts of a pepperoni pizza?

Operating system updates don't come quickly in the Android world. They show up fashionably late, nevermind that parties where everyone looks forward to a new software release aren't the kind where people care how anyone is dressed.
