[Deal Alert] Get a Sony Xperia XZ for just $649.99 from Amazon ($50 off)

As of late, Sony Mobile has been making some pretty decent smartphones, but it destroys any chances of them succeeding by slapping massive price tags on them. The relatively new Xperia XZ is one of these phones; it's nice, but $700 nice? Not to most. However, with this latest markdown by Amazon, you can grab an XZ with a US warranty for $649.99, $50 less than the MSRP.

Sony's Xperia XZ is now officially available in the US for a whopping $700

Sony Mobile, despite its lackluster presence here for the past few years, is gradually re-entering the US market. The Japanese company's latest flagship, the Xperia XZ, went up for pre-order a little over a week ago, and it's now available for purchase. Unfortunately, at $700, I don't see the XZ helping Sony's dwindling smartphone business much.

Xperia X Compact now available on Amazon, unlocked for $499

One week ago, the Xperia X Compact became available for pre-order on Amazon for $499 with a $50 credit. Today, as expected, it is officially available for sale on the site (we have yet to locate other sites currently selling it).

The X Compact, the smaller version of Sony's latest smartphone offerings, features a 4.6" 720p screen with a Snapdragon 650 CPU. The phone also has 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with microSD expansion, USB Type-C with Qualcomm Quick Charging 3.0, and a 23MP rear camera. Keep in mind that the X Compact does include Android 6.0 Marshmallow at launch, but you can easily unlock the bootloader through Sony's Open Device Program.

The unlocked Xperia X Compact is available for pre-order on Amazon for $500, plus a $50 credit

Customers who want a solid phone with good specs and a screen size under five inches have been having a hard time of it for the last few years. Sony seems like the only manufacturer that will give them the time of day, and their phones aren't always easy to find in any given market. Those in the US who've been salivating over the Xperia X Compact, the company's latest bantamweight heavy-hitter, can now put down some money to get an American unlocked model.

Sony's selfie-centric Xperia C4 and C4 Dual smartphones receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Sony isn't known for getting Android updates out especially quickly, and the fact that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is only arriving now (a month after Nougat's official release) for the Xperia C4 and Xperia C4 Dual is proof of that. Then again, this is a last-generation, mid-range phone with an unconventional MediaTek chipset, so we'll cut Sony some slack for this one.

Sony announces Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact at IFA

Sony has just announced their latest Xperia smartphones at IFA, the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact. Although the X Compact leaked a week ago, as well as the name "Xperia XZ," the specs and features were anyone's guess. Now that Sony has gone public, I'm impressed by the pair of phones.

[Deal Alert] Get an Xperia XA Ultra with a 64GB microSD for $298 on Amazon

If you're in the market for a phablet with an amazing selfie cam (God, I hate myself for using those terms), you'd better check out the Sony Xperia XA Ultra. The 16MP camera up front has a higher resolution than most smartphone rear-facing cameras do. Now, you can pick one up on Amazon for under $300 with a free 64GB Sony microSD card.

Sony will further "defocus" mobile business in US, as well as India, Brazil, and China

According to investor presentation slides obtained by Xperia Blog, Sony has told investors in Japan at a recent event that the company's mobile business will be further "defocused" in the United States, as well as in India, China, and Brazil.

Sony's Xperia X line of handsets, announced at MWC in February, have been met with critical apathy, if not outright disdain in some cases. Sony announced the X series would be launching in America back in May, and the handsets have not yet begun shipping. This makes the language in the slides almost surprising - Sony is essentially admitting that it will be walking back its US mobile business, what even exists of it, just as new devices launch.

Sony Planning Another 6-inch Xperia Device, Possibly The Xperia C6

We know Sony likes big phones - the Z5 Premium or the absurd (but kinda cool) Z Ultra range laying testimony to this. Well, now it looks like it has another massive phone under its belt - the C6. This phone is the follow-up to the C5 Ultra, another 6-inch device released in August 2015; it's immediately obvious that the design of the C6 is similar to the C5.

According to Xperiablog, the C6 will have a 6-inch screen and a front-facing flash, both of which are definitely unusual for today's smartphones. To add to this, the device will have minimal side bezels and, like the C5 Ultra, a MediaTek chip, meaning it might be aimed at Sony's home country of Japan, or maybe a wider Asian release.

Sony Announces Xperia Ear, Eye, Projector, And Agent: 1 Product, 3 Concepts

Today at MWC, Sony announced four new connected gadgets which it hopes will let people look up from their phone screens more and engage the world around them. The products include a bluetooth earpiece, a wearable camera, a vertical projector, and a friendly robot, which are respectively called the Xperia Ear, Xperia Eye, Xperia Projector, and Xperia Agent.

Xperia Eye

Three of those products are actually just concepts: only the Xperia Ear has an expected launch date, and it won't come out until later this summer. The remaining products — the Eye, Projector, and Agent — are nowhere to be seen here at MWC and it will likely take some time for them to get to market, if they do at all.
