Sony Announces Updates To Its Jelly Bean Schedule: Xperia T, TX & V Will Have It By February Or March

I suppose you have to give Sony credit for at least keeping its customers informed. Today, the manufacturer announced an update to its plans for bringing its phones up to Jelly Bean. If you're rocking the Xperia T, Xperia TX, or Xperia V, you should see Android 4.1 "during February and March." Of course, this will depend on what market you're in or which variant you own.

Following those flagships, the Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia go will start to receive their upgrades starting around the end of March. Following that release, the Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion and the Xperia acro S will be updated "in the subsequent weeks." Of course, schedules are always subject to change, but all of this information lines up pretty well with what we've heard before from the company.

Not so much. They don't do a great job of keeping your hands warm in the cold weather, and they aren't exactly renowned for their comfort.

Fortunately for Xperia sola users, Sony has you covered. The Ice Cream Sandwich update for the sola, which began today, includes a new feature called "glove mode" which, you guessed it, allows you to wear any pair of gloves and still use your smartphone.

Sony Begins To Roll Out Ice Cream Sandwich For The Xperia Go, Sola, And U, Coming To Global Markets "Over The Next Few Weeks"

Following the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Xperia P last month, Sony is now rolling out the same software to the Xperia Go, Sola, and U.

The rollout for all three devices is beginning today and continuing over the next few weeks in global markets, so keep an eye on your notifications if you're eager to update your software.

As well as updating users' devices to Ice Cream Sandwich, this latest update also comes with new Sony media applications, including a new Walkman app.

Some of the cool features and functionality you can look forward to include:

  • New ways to experience your tunes, images, videos and films with Sony’s media applications – “WALKMAN”, “Album” and “Movies”
  • Extended standby mode, increasing standby time by up to four times (depending on user-profile and data consumption)
  • Lock screen with improved functionality
  • Resizable widgets for improved personalization
  • Improved control of your mobile data consumption
  • Recent Apps button for a clear overview of your applications

In order to update your phone, you'll have to connect to a PC or Mac.

Ice Cream Sandwich Rollout Begins For The Sony Xperia P, Coming "Shortly" For The Xperia Sola, Go, And U

How often do you hear this? Sony has started to roll out Ice Cream Sandwich to the Xperia P ahead of schedule, beating its own date of August 19th.

According to a post on the Sony Mobile blog, the upgrade process is beginning today and continuing globally "over the next few weeks", so if you're an Xperia P owner, keep an eye out for any upgrade notifications on your phone. When ICS is ready for your device, you will be alerted, but Sony says that some users may have to use their PC Companion software to perform the update.

Some of the cool features and functionality you can look forward to include:

    • New ways to experience your media with new media applications – “WALKMAN”, “Album” and “Movies”
    • Extended standby mode, increasing standby time by up to four times (depending on user-profile and data consumption)

    The post also says that there will be another update for other Xperia phones "shortly", listing the Xperia U, Xperia sola and Xperia go.

    Sony Unveils The Xperia Sola With 'Floating Touch', Lets You Highlight Items On-Screen Without Actually Touching The Device

    When touchscreen phones first became mainstream, countless people talked about how "impractical" a touch-only device was. Since then, touch devices have become the norm in the smartphone realm, with basically every modern high-end phone packing at least some sort of touch input.

    Sony is taking the touch revolution to a whole new level with the Xperia sola, though, by bringing a new feature to the table called "floating touch" that allows the user to simply hover their finger over items in the browser and highlight them, much like using a mouse.

    Not only does the sola incorporate this new floating touch technology, but it's also NFC enabled and comes packaged with two Sony SmartTags which can be customized to handle up to ten different commands each.
