Right now at MWC, Eric Schmidt is showing off a brand-new, Google-developed Android app: Movie Studio. The app, as the name may suggest, is a video editor. It's designed specifically for Honeycomb tablets, and as a video editor, that sort of makes sense. It's pretty rough trying to edit video on a smaller screen, though not impossible (which is to say, I imagine an XDA port for phones will happen as soon as an APK gets leaked). Read More
We won't lie - it's a slow news day in the world of Android. And with all the bad press Samsung's been getting today over an alleged filing of a class-action suit regarding the Froyo update on US Galaxy S phones, we're going to stay on the lighter side of things (for now).
Meet the Samsung Galaxy Mini. Isn't it adorable? Unfortunately, its diminutive size comes with an equally diminutive feature list:
- 240x320 screen (presumably less than or about 3" in size)
- Android 2.2.1
- Bluetooth 3.0
- Device measures 4.3" x 2.4" approximately
- microSD slot
- TouchWiz UI
I can't imagine there's a Hummingbird buzzing inside this little guy, so it'll be interesting to see if the TouchWiz UI overlay makes the phone unbearably slow. Read More
While the owners of HTC Wildfires have known for a while now that their devices would be eventually receiving Froyo, and that it probably wouldn't happen until Christmas, they were still secretly hoping HTC wouldn't take over 6 months to accomplish the feat. At least it looks like the company is keeping its word, which is refreshing nowadays, to say the least.
Starting this week, HTC will be rolling out Froyo to European Wildfire variants, with the rest of the world following sometime between now and February 2011. Read More
It may only be Thanksgiving, which consequently means that December 25 (Christmas) is still a month away, but it looks like Rovio Mobile, the company behind the insanely popular Angry Birds, is already stocking up on Christmas gifts. Yes, a Christmas edition of Angry Birds no longer exists exclusively in your dreams - @RovioMobile, the company's Twitter account, recently replied to this tweet from @SkeenaNC:
with this message:
What "new things," you ask? Read More
It's definitely starting to feel like holiday season is winding up - a ton of devices that we've seen in the pipeline previously are now making it to market at long last. Let's take a look:
Samsung Galaxy Tab
The Verizon and Sprint versions of the Galaxy Tab have launched already, and the device will be coming to Sprint in short order (11/14) as well. Quick recap of the specs:
- 7" 1024x600 screen
- Both 3G and Wi-Fi
- Android 2.2
- 1 GHz Hummingbird CPU
- 13.8 oz.
Verizon's upcoming Droid 2 Global, which replaces the still relatively young Moto Droid 2, has exposed some skin today on Verizon's how-to video page. Here, the CDMA/GSM packing world phone is shown off in an official introduction, along with a handful of how-to videos demoing specific phone functions. The $200 QWERTY speed demon (it's clocked at 1.2GHz) is scheduled to be released later this month.
And now, onto the goodies:

Verizon's really steamrolling along with the Android train, aren't they? In addition to last night's official announcement of the Samsung Continuum, the Motorola Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global are now both up for pre-order. Just as we'd heard, the D2G looks to be $200 after rebates, while the DP, as announced yesterday, will clock in at $180 (both with a new contract).
Both devices are "world phones," meaning they pack both GSM and CDMA. Read More
Engadget's landed a classic Blurrycam shot of Verizon's internal system showing the prices for a handful of current and upcoming devices. Namely, the Motorola Droid Pro, and the still-unofficial Droid 2 Global and Samsung Continuum.
In simpler, blur-free text, that's:
- Motorola Droid Pro - $179
- Samsung Continuum - $199
- Motorola Droid 2 Global - $199
Not unreasonable at all, given that they're all high-end devices. I suppose this should also erase any lingering doubt anyone may have had about the two color choices for the D2 Global - we'll definitely be presented with the standard dark blue, as well as a white model. Read More
The Motorola Droid 2 Global is really turning out to be the worst-kept secret since the Bay of Pigs invasion, isn't it? We've been hearing inklings of it since mid-September, including rumors that the CPU would be clocked at 1.2 GHz.
Now, Droid-Life's legion of tipsters have spotted two more official Verizon documents featuring the Droid 2 Global: a holiday ad featuring the D2G (above), and nothing other than a sheet listing the tech specs. Read More
Have you ever wanted to peek ahead to those locked worlds in Angry Birds that are unavailable before fully completing the previous ones? A bug (or an Easter egg) in the Android version of the game lets you do just that, a reddit user braaaiins found. I tried it just a few minutes ago with 100% success.
Of course, many would argue that you should be going in order and playing the way Rovio meant for you to play, and I'd agree with them. Read More
