OK, so it might not be the Galaxy Nexus, but HTC's Wildfire S for Virgin Mobile is a fairly decent smartphone (the carrier's second best option), and it is available off-contract for a fraction of the price of a more high-end handset. Under regular circumstances, the device comes in at just $199.99 without any sort of contract, but from now until Saturday (November 26th), it's half off - $99.99.

Again, that's less than a Benjamin for a fully off-contract Wildfire S, complete with:

  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • WiFi/3G radios
  • Bluetooth
  • A 3.2-inch touch screen
  • A microSD card slot
  • A 5.0MP camera
  • A battery good for 4 hours of talk time/12.5 days of standby

Admittedly, those specs don't quite make for a flagship handset, but then again, it costs under a seventh of the off-contract price of, say, the Galaxy Nexus.

We know how much you guys (and gals) love Otterbox, and we hope you know how much we love all of you; all of that love can only mean one thing: it's time for another case giveaway. This go around is exclusive to a couple of newcomers to the Otterbox family: the Defender Series for the Motorola Atrix 2 and the Commuter Series for the Atrix 2 and HTC Wildfire S.

So there you are, at the end of the two-year agreement with your current carrier. You're at fork in the road. On one hand, you could drop a couple hundred bucks for a new phone, sign a new agreement, and start the cycle all over again. On the other, you could spend a couple hundred bucks with Virgin Mobile, nix the contract, and be a free man (or woman, whatevs). So what do you do?

When US Cellular decides to make an announcement, it plays no games. Single device announcements? Puh-leez, that's for kids. Three devices at once? Now that's pro.

That's exactly what the regional carrier just did, too: name dropped three new HTC devices set to land on its network next month. The Wildfire S, Hero S, and Flyer tablet, to be exact. Want the deetz? Keep reading.

Hero S

The long rumored HTC Kingdom is finally official as the Hero S, packing some nice specs under the hood:

  • 4-inch qHD Super LCD display
  • 1.2GHz single-core Snapdragon processor
  • 768MB RAM
  • Android 2.3.x with Sense

Sure, it's no powerhouse, but a 4-inch SLCD at qHD res?

It's August 3rd, and as promised, the HTC Wildfire S is now available on T-Mobile. The Wildfire S is the newest mid-range device to grace the Land of Pink, most likely aimed at tweeners and smartphone newcomers.

HTC Wildfire S_

T-Mobile announced its newest midrange handset today: the HTC Wildfire S. The Wildfire S is a great middle-of-the-road phone for anyone on a budget, with somewhat modest specs:

HTC Wildfire S_

  • 3.2 inch 320x480 display
  • 800MHz single-core processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • SD Card slot
  • 5MP rear shooter
  • Android 2.3 with HTC Sense

It may not be the hottest phone on the planet, but at least it has a decent amount of RAM for multitasking, and Android 2.3 runs great on slower hardware (I'm trying to be optimistic here).

To say the expectations were high for HTC's MWC press conference would be a drastic understatement, especially since the company didn't really announce anything new at CES. So were those expectations met? Personally, I'd have to say "no," but read on to discover the complete specifications of each of their six new devices and decide for yourself.

Update: Now with official HTC videos.

Update #2: Here is the spec sheet from HTC with all the official specs.
