Virgin Mobile And Boost Mobile Get Their First 4G WiMax Handsets: The HTC EVO V 4G And EVO Design 4G, Respectively

Looks like Sprint's underling companies have been busy working on bringing the first taste of 4G to the pay-as-you-go market. Piggybacking off of Sprint's 4G WiMax network, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile will both begin offering one 4G-capable smartphone each on May 31st: the HTC EVO V 4G on Virgin and the EVO Design 4G will be representing all that WiMax has to offer on Boost.

HTC EVO V 4G

The EVO V appears to be some sort of rehash of the EVO 3D:

4.3-inch qHD display
1GB RAM
5MP rear shooter with 3D imaging, 1.3MP front camera
4GB internal storage, microSD card slot
1730mAh battery
Android 4.0 with Sense 3.6

There's no word on processor or clock speed, but I'll be surprised if it's not the same 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon that's in the original EVO 3D.

Major Canadian Carriers Announce Impending Availability of Galaxy Nexus

Being an Android fan in Canada can be a mixed bag. While you may miss out on some of the sweet devices exclusive to U.S. carriers - the EVO 4G comes to mind - there's also the chance for some benefits, such as the recent July release of the international model of the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Thankfully, living at such northern latitudes won't cost us the opportunity to get our mitten-clad hands on the next Nexus device. While we have known this for a while, the details as to who will carry the Galaxy Nexus and when we can expect it to hit shelves have dropped today.

Sprint Delays Data-Throttling On Virgin Mobile Until 'Sometime In 2012'

Back in July, Sprint announced plans to begin throttling speeds for customers who use more than 2.5GB of data in a month on its pre-paid subsidiary, Virgin Mobile. Naturally, this announcement did not sit well with Virgin customers, despite Sprint's claim that the change would only affect "3% of all data users."

However, the Now Network has decided to delay this throttling plan until sometime in 2012 to "ensure [they] have all the necessary systems in place so that [their] customer experience will remain positive."

There's no word as to exactly when this changeover will take place, but the company "will provide further information on timing beforehand so [their] customers have advance notification."

So, Virgin customers, breathe a sigh of relief, because it looks like you'll be able to bathe in unlimited data for a while longer.

Virgin Mobile Doesn't Approve Of Rooting Or Custom ROMs, Even If It Does Like Vanilla Android

Remember how we ran that story last week about Virgin Mobile laying the smackdown on manufacturer UI overlays? We liked that. But Virgin Mobile wants the Android community to know that they shouldn't consider the prepaid carrier a safe haven for illicit activities like rooting or custom ROMs - not that that's any different from all the other carriers. Here's what Virgin had to say:

"We do not endorse in any way end users using a non-officially tested operating system nor do we approve of 'rooting' devices. This constitutes a violation of our terms of service and puts our network in jeopardy," a spokesperson said.

Samsung Intercept Coming To Virgin Mobile USA

Virgin Mobile announced via an image upload on their Facebook page that they're landing the Samsung Intercept as their first Android phone. No word yet on pricing or release date, but we can't imagine it would be too terribly much (should be in the range of their LG Rumor Touch).
