Original DROID Turbo finally gets its Marshmallow OTA update

The first DROID Turbo is over two years old at this point, and since it's a Motorola phone on Verizon, you might think that its software update days are numbered. Perhaps they are, but nevertheless users are starting to see an over-the-air update to Android 6.0.1 for the former flagship phone. Reports started popping up on the dedicated XDA-Developers forum this weekend following a soak test from last month, and it seems the update is going out en masse now.

Verizon's new GizmoTab is a kids tablet with surprisingly solid hardware and design

We've seen a few tablets designed specifically for children, though "designed" can sometimes be a bit of stretch. Nabi's hardware is kid-focused from the ground up, but Amazon and Samsung (two of the biggest tablet makers on the planet, by volume) just add a software skin and an impact-absorbing case to an existing product. In that context, Verizon's newly-announced GizmoTab is an interesting offering: not only is it one of the rare tablet designs meant uniquely for children, it also has surprisingly solid hardware underneath all that padding.

[Deal Alert] Save up to $250 on unlocked, carrier, and dual SIM models of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge

If you closely follow smartphone deals, you know that the US unlocked models of Samsung's Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge don't often go on sale. However, for Black Friday, several retailers are handing some pretty nice discounts and freebies out for them. We're also seeing some discounts on American carrier and international dual SIM models.

Verizon offers deep discounts on Pixel phones (as low as $240) and Google Home for Black Friday

Black Friday deals have been kind of underwhelming for the last few years, but Verizon seems to be taking full advantage of its "exclusive" on the US carrier version of the Pixel phones. For customers who buy a new phone today (Thanksgiving) or tomorrow, the price is reduced to $10 a month for the Pixel and $15 a month for the Pixel XL. That works out to just $239.99 for the Pixel and $359.99 for the Pixel XL (only the 128GB model of the larger phone is being discounted) over the two-year payment period.

Android 7.0 Nougat update rolling out to Moto Z, Z Force, Z Droid, and Z Droid Force

Despite being released on August 22, hardly any devices outside of Google's Nexus and Pixel lineups officially run Android Nougat. In fact, only about 0.3% of all Android devices with the Play Store actually have it. Many Verizon customers have reported that their Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Droid Force phones have received OTAs to Nougat.

Codes for free Daydream View VR headsets are going out for Pixel pre-orderers

Google first revealed that Pixel pre-orderers would receive Daydream Views free of charge at last month's Pixel unveiling, and now, there's finally some movement; promo codes for the VR headsets are being sent out via email to customers who pre-ordered via the Google Store.

[Update: Now on the Google Store] Verizon shows two new Live Cases for the Pixels that don't seem to be announced yet

Verizon has decided, whether on purpose or accident, to show two as-yet-unannounced Live Cases for the Pixels. These are not ones you would find on the Google Store. The blue option for the Earth case looks a lot like one of the wallpapers from last year's Nexus phones, which makes me feel a bit nostalgic.

Verizon adds two new plans to its prepaid lineup

In other Verizon news today, the cell operator announced two new options for its prepaid customers. Both offer quite a bit of data for prices that are not too bad considering that this is Verizon we're talking about. The first of these new plans is a 5GB for $50 per month tier, followed by 10GB for $70 per month. Both are available starting November 13.

Editorial: Fact-checking the latest video rant from T-Mobile CEO John Legere

As mobile bloggers, watching national carriers with revenue in the billions snip at each other like gossiping high school students is the closest thing we have to a spectator sport. Between Sprint hiring Verizon's old spokesman, T-Mobile continuing its cloying David-versus-Goliath narrative, and Verizon using textbook straw man attacks against both of them in all those Jaime Foxx spots, we can hardly make the popcorn fast enough.

Every couple of months or so, T-Mobile CEO John Legere emerges from his fortress of solitude to directly address mobile consumers with a rant against his competitors. This time he's addressing specific points from Verizon's latest ad campaign.
