AT&T Is Rolling Out Ice Cream Sandwich For Samsung Captivate Glide For Real This Time On November 10th

Back in September, we heard that AT&T was rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich for the Samsung Captivate Glide. Well, it turns out, that was delayed. How long, you ask? Until tomorrow, it seems! According to a blog post by AT&T, the upgrade should be available starting November 10th via a download on Samsung's website. There will not be an OTA.

Android 4.0 simplifies common actions and includes a new typeface optimized for high-resolution screens to improve readability.

The many new features include the new browser with improved page loading, tabbed browsing, offline reading and desktop mode.  There are new lock/unlock features such as the ability to unlock directly to the camera, text messaging, phone dialer, or home screen, or you can use Face Unlock which lets you unlock your screen using facial recognition technology.

You can easily swipe away notifications with the new notifications bar and multitasking is easier with the new Recent Apps Shortcut that lets you switch between apps quickly.  There’s even a setting to help your track your data usage.

Panasonic Eluga Gets Update To Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich Courtesy Of A Play Store App

Taking a new approach to firmware upgrades, Panasonic has decided to update its Eluga handset to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich via a downloadable Play Store app appropriately named 'ELUGA ICS Update.'

For those who don't remember, the Eluga is a little-talked-about handset that debuted in Spring 2012 in Europe and Japan, touting a waterproof and dustproof chassis.

According to its description, Panasonic's update app "connects to Panasonic download server [sic] and downloads the Ice Cream Sandwich software update." Of course, many of us are familiar with what improvements Ice Cream Sandwich brings over Gingerbread 2.3.x, but Panasonic emphasizes the new "powerful new features" of its custom skin as well, listing the lock screen, status bar, home screen, and app drawer as areas of improvement with the update.

Sprint has some presents for you, especially if you live in the midwest. For starters, several cities are getting their shiny new LTE networks lit up today including Wichita, KS, Waukegan-Lake County, IL and more (listed below). As an added bonus, the #3 carrier also announced that the Network Vision rollout is beginning in Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles. Here's the list of markets that will see LTE activated in their area:

Lawrence, KS
Topeka, KS
Wichita, KS
Waukegan-Lake County, IL
Barnstable-Hyannis/Mid-Cape, MA

It's not a huge rollout, but the improvements to the 3G network in Chicago, NYC, and LA should be welcome as Sprint makes ready LTE coverage in those cities.

Motorola Software Upgrade Timeline Updated - Many ICS OTAs Delayed

Motorola made some changes to its firmware update timeline this morning. It looks some ICS updates have been delayed, while others that were once promised are now undergoing evaluation. Here's a look at what changed.

  • The Atrix 4G and Atrix 2 were originally slated to get ICS in Q3 of 2012, but have been updated to "further plans coming soon." We're not exactly sure what that means, but it doesn't sound very promising.
  • The Droid XYBOARD 8.2's ICS update was pushed back from Q3 to Q4, despite the fact that its 10.1" brother has been on Android 4.0 since August.
  • The XOOM Family Edition will also have to wait until Q4 to see ICS.

Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate Gets The Ice Cream Sandwich Bump, Available Via Kies Right Now

If you say nothing else about Samsung, the manufacturer is at least thorough about getting Ice Cream Sandwich out to as many devices as possible, if not punctual. Today's latest addition to the 4.0 stable is the Galaxy Exhilarate, a mid-range phone on AT&T. The update will be rolling out via Kies immediately.

2012-09-18_14h31_27

The upgrade will not be sent out over the air, so break out those micro USB cables. The boost from Gingerbread should be a significant and welcome one for Exhilarate users. It's nice to see Samsung hasn't completely forgotten its mid-range line of phones. Even if the company does have about a million of them.

Sprint Nexus S 4G Is Even More Officially Getting Jelly Bean Now, According To Documents In Sprint Forums

There may have been a bit of a false start recently, when a Sprint employee took to the community forums to announce that the rollout of Jelly Bean for the Nexus S had begun. Maybe the rep confused the Nexus S for the Galaxy Nexus, as we hadn't heard any reports that users had received the OTA for the older of the two Nexii. Today, though, Sprint has posted in its forums details on the upgrade, including a release date of today, September 11th.

2012-09-11_12h40_34

As previously reported, the build number will be JRO03R. The rollout should be beginning today. While we didn't have reason to doubt the veracity of the Sprint rep from a few days ago, this is even more solid info.

AT&T Is Rolling Out Ice Cream Sandwich For Samsung Captivate Glide Owners Starting September 7th

In all the Jelly Bean excitement, it can be easy to forget that only 20% of Android users are running Ice Cream Sandwich. Today that number gets just ever so slightly larger, though. AT&T has announced that the Samsung Captivate Glide will be upgraded to 4.0 starting today, September 7th. Woo!

2012-09-07_12h03_04

The update will only be available via Kies, so head to your favorite desktop computer post haste. It will not be rolling out over the air. It is, however, available immediately, which is nice. Glide owners can head here for instructions and a link to Kies if you don't already have it on your machine.
