International Galaxy Note II Starts To Receive Android 4.3 Update

The Galaxy Note II came out over a year ago rocking Android 4.1.1. That was great at the time, but now that a giant KitKat statue is standing up in front of the Googleplex, it's time to move things along. Samsung never bothered with bringing 4.2.2 to the Note 2, but customers will likely forgive them now that 4.3 is rolling out to devices across the globe. It's moving in phases, though, so for the time being the only models to start receiving the update have been the GT-N7100 and the GT-N7105.

Galaxy Gear Manager Updated To v1.5.111304, Now Enables Samsung's Smartwatch To Show Full Notifications For Any App

The Galaxy Gear is twice the price of the Pebble and pricier than both iterations of Sony's SmartWatch, but it isn't necessarily a more complete product. A particular sore spot is how the watch handles notifications, limiting not only which apps can send them, but not actually displaying the contents for most apps. The latest update to the Galaxy Gear Manager app alleviates this somewhat. Now users can pick which apps send messages to the Gear and even read the contents on the watch itself. SamMobile has shared images of the new feature in action.

Gear2

Owners need to have installed the latest firmware version for the Gear in order to take advantage of this new functionality.

Ultimate Ears Updates UE BOOM Firmware And Android App To Offer New EQ Setting And Alarm Clock Functionality

I reviewed the UE BOOM back in July and called it my favorite Bluetooth speaker. Four months and several speaker reviews later, it still holds that title. Today, UE is pushing out a firmware update to the speaker and adding new features to the Android app that makes it even more useful.

The standout feature of this update is an all-new Alarm feature. Basically, it turns your BOOM into an alarm clock, so you can wake to some killer sound. This might just be the alarm that can get my dead self out of bed in the mornings. I'm sure Artem will appreciate that.

Google Search Talks Back - Latest Update Can Hold A Conversation For Certain Commands

Besides fixing Google Experience Launcher on tablets and adding some new cards, the new Google Search update has another trick up its sleeve - it will now hold a conversation with you to perform certain functions, and talks to you in a new way.

Basically, you can now start with very general voice commands like "send a message." The microphone will then turn into a white speaker on a blue circle, indicating that Search is responding to you. It will ask "Who do you want to send the message to?" Then it's your turn. Say a name, and Search will ask what the message should say.

Massive Google Search 3.1.8 Update Rolling Out, Brings Google Experience Launcher To All 4.1+ Devices, New Cards, Completely Fixes GEL On Tablets, And More [APK Download]

A huge Google Search update started rolling out earlier today. It is absolutely massive on many levels:

  • It officially brings Search version 3 (3.1.8 to be exact) that shipped in KitKat to all devices running 4.1+. This includes an updated UI, new refresh animation, among other things.
  • Because Search houses the Google Experience Launcher (GEL) inside, this update also brings GEL to all devices running Android 4.1+. All you need to do after installing Search 3.1.8 is install the launcher app from here, and voila - GEL for all, not just KitKat devices. I have it running on 4.1, 4.3, and 4.4 on both phones and tablets, and it finally looks perfect.

Nexus 10 Owners, Your KitKat Update Is Ready - Download And Install Android 4.4 Now (KRT16O)

Following closely behind the 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7 KitKat OTA updates, it's finally the Nexus 10's turn to receive the same treatment. You can now flash the 219MB KRT16O Android 4.4 build without having to wait for your tablet to alert you, no matter what your rooting/bootloader situation is. Of course, if you've modified the system partition in such a way that the OTA won't apply cleanly anymore, you have to either revert those changes or wait for the factory image.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Nexus 10 (it's the only modern Nexus device I didn't buy), so I won't be able to post my own screenshots.

[KitKat] 2012 Wi-Fi Nexus 7 Owners, It's Your Turn To Download And Flash Android 4.4 OTA Update (KRT16O)

Yesterday, Google announced the kickoff of the KitKat OTAs for the Nexus 7 and 10, though we haven't seen the update for the 2012 N7 actually pop up until a few minutes ago. (If you have a 2013 Nexus 7, head over here.)

2012 Nexus 7 Wi-Fi (not 3G yet) owners, listen up. You can now flash the 185MB KRT16O Android 4.4 build without waiting any longer, no matter what your rooting/bootloader situation is. Of course, if you've modified the system partition in such a way that the OTA won't apply cleanly anymore, you have to either revert those changes or wait for the factory image.

[APK Download] Google+ Updated To Version 4.2.3: Photos Now Supports Android Beam, Daydream, And More

A new update to Google+ is currently rolling out, and when it hits your device, not only will it bring along the usual bug fixes and performance increases, it will contain a number of new features. The Photos app now supports Android Beam, so two Android owners can share images with one another over NFC. There is also the new option to set images within Photos as a Daydream that plays whenever a device is docked. Lastly, users can pull up photo details from the drop-down menu, an ability that's more useful than it is exciting. A Google+ developer has shared screenshots of all three new features in action.

SuperSU Security Advisory: Update To Version 1.69 (Available Now) To Avoid Potential Exploits

If you're a root user, listen up. Chainfire updated SuperSU to v1.69 as of last night, which fixes two exploits that could allow an attacker to leverage root privileges without first prompting the user. Probably nothing to get overly anxious about, but it's definitely a good idea to make sure you're running the latest. Details of these exploits will be released next Monday, so you'll want to grab the update before then.

Fortunately, this one's pretty easy – just install the update from the Play Store and you're covered; no need to flash anything.

This update also includes a handful of other fixes and things:

Changelog
- XBIN mode (some new roots need this)
- Slightly adjusted binary installer
- Backup script installation now available for all backuptool-capable ROMs
- Fixed su-ing to a non-root user not working on some 4.3+ firmwares
- Fixed BOOTCLASSPATH vulnerability (CVE-2013-6774) - Fixed notification sanitization vulnerability (CVE-2013-6775) - Fixed possible closed special files vulnerability
- Updated language files

The update is already live in the Play Store, so make sure to pull it down as soon as you can.
