Kyocera Echo Gingerbread Update Officially Confirmed, Brings WiFi Calling And NFC Support

Last week we got our hands on the Sprint Playbook which indicated that the Kyocera Echo would be receiving a firmware update to Android 2.3. Accordingly, a page has now gone live on the official Kyocera Echo webpage confirming that an update to Android 2.3.4 is imminent. By the looks of the Echo webpage this update will bring some major features and enhancements to this unique device.

As indicated in the Playbook the update will include Swype 3.0 with "Tap Correction and Horizontal Word Choice List" (i.e. predictive text), an improved "Downloads application", and the eponymous "Echo Mode" which is essentially an app to manage the device's battery.

Android Web Market Gets A Spiffy Screenshot Navigation Update [Video]

The Android web Market only just received its last update that introduced app install histories 5 days ago, but the Android team is at it again today with a new, much smoother way to navigate app screenshots.

Rather than display blocks of 3 screenshots navigable via little hard-to-click dots on the bottom like it used to do, the new navigation offers a pleasant, smooth UI scrollable sideways. It's easier if I just show you (or you can click through to any app with more than 3 screenshots, such as IMDB here):

A small update, but pleasant nonetheless.

[Update 7/28: Rolling Out Now] Android Honeycomb 3.2 Coming To The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer July 28th

ASUS just announced via its official Twitter account that the Eee Pad Transformer would be receiving the latest iteration of Honeycomb -- Android 3.2 -- on July 28th (tomorrow). The newest version of Honeycomb will bring bug fixes and a few new features to the tablet-netbook-hybrid, including the new "app zoom" feature that makes phone-specific apps scale more appropriately on the larger, 1280x800 display.

There's no official word on exactly when the rollout will begin, but it can't hurt to start checking for updates at midnight, right?

Gmail For Android Updated To V2.3.5 - Selective Mail Sync And Label Notifications, Sticky "Show Pictures" Settings (Finally!), Attachment Downloads, And More

Gmail for Android hasn't received much love lately, but Google definitely hasn't forgotten about it. The new version 2.3.5 (curiously, it matches the latest Gingerbread release version), which showed up tonight, brings a host of new features, including one that I was *just* thinking of yesterday after clicking the "Show Pictures" button for the 1800th time.

The new features are:

Save bandwidth and battery by only syncing priority mail
Use label notifications to mash up filters, labels, and ringtones
Remember ‘Show Pictures’ for senders
Turn off sticky message actions in landscape or all orientations
Better TalkBalk support for accessibility
Performance improvements

As I mentioned, my favorite is definitely the sticky "Show Pictures" setting, which means I won't have to click the annoying button in every email that I receive from all the deals sites on a daily basis.

[Update: Reportedly Rolling Out Now] Droid X2 Gingerbread Update Right Around The Corner, According To VZW Support Site

Update: If @VZWSupport is to be believed (and after yesterday's Galaxy S II fiasco, I have my doubts), then the update should be rolling out beginning today, reaching all DX2 owners by the end of the week.

When the Droid X2 first hit the street, most would-be owners were extremely disappointed when they found out that it didn't ship with Gingerbread. For some, this was a deal-breaker, but others stuck it out and bought the device anyway, hoping for an OTA update soon after.

T-Mobile Updates myTouch 4G Support Page, Will Offer In-Store Gingerbread Updates On August 5th

Less than a week ago, T-Mobile announced that Gingerbread would be rolling out to a limited number of myTouch 4G users on June 20th, with a broader rollout hitting all customer by the end of the year. In a strange twist, the Magenta Carrier updated the myTouch 4G support page this morning stating that:

Beginning August 5, you will be able to go to a T-Mobile retail store to update your T-Mobile myTouch 4G to the most recent software version. This helps if you have not gotten the Over-The-Air (OTA) update.

The document goes on to provide users some caveats to be aware of in case the update fails; such as data loss, application loss, the amount of time that the update will take in such a case, and a detailed process of what the tech will do to your device.

Exclusive: Kyocera Echo Gingerbread Update Coming Starting August 1

Today's Sprint Playbook just landed in our inbox, and one thing stands out: the Kyocera Echo will be receiving an update to Android 2.3. The update will be over the air (OTA), and will be rolled out across a four-day period beginning August 1 at a rate of 10%, 25%, 25%, 100%.

[Update: Not Just Yet] Gingerbread Update For The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Available Now

Update: It looks like someone in Sony's camp got a little overzealous concerning this update, as it's actually not available just yet. According to the Sony Ericsson Product Blog, the launch is coming, but "[they] just need more days before [they] can push the button." We'll keep you posted of any developments on this front -- like, you know, when it's actually available.

Owners of the Sony Erricsson Xperia X10, make ready your computers - the official Gingerbread update is ready and available to download. The update brings many new features aside from the goodness of Gingerbread, including Facebook inside Xperia, Sony's take on Facebook integration; Wi-Fi hotspot and USB tethering, a new music player with equalizer, photo widget, and app tray sorting.

Samsung Hosting An Event In NYC On August 3rd To Unveil The TouchWiz UX Update For The Galaxy Tab 10.1

An email just hit our inboxes directly from Samsung, inviting us all to join together in NYC on August 3rd for the official unveiling of a "major software update" for the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

We have known that this update was coming for the past several weeks, but now we can finally lock something a bit more concrete down. According to the above image, onsite Tab 10.1 updates will be open to the public at the event, so I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing a national rollout begin that very same day.

For those who are unaware, TouchWiz UX will bring a lot of useful features to the device, including a mini-app tray for quick access to frequently used applications and an infinitely useful notification area power widget.
