Fresh ROM v3.5 For EVO 4G Is Out With The Newest OTA, Radio, WiMAX, PRI And Improved Battery Life

It's no secret that my EVO 4G runs a custom ROM called Fresh - it is one of the best EVO ROMs, free of bloatware and full of tweaks that make it fast and efficient, while keeping stability rock solid. The developer, flipz, is very good - he's responsive to Sprint OTA updates and bug reports and usually sorts out any issues in a matter of days.

Due to the recent EVO OTA (3.70.651.1), flipz just released the newest version of the ROM, currently 3.5.0.1, also containing the latest HTC kernel, which is said to do wonders to the battery life.

HTC To Start Rolling Out Froyo To European Wildfires This Week, Rest Of The World By February 2011

While the owners of HTC Wildfires have known for a while now that their devices would be eventually receiving Froyo, and that it probably wouldn't happen until Christmas, they were still secretly hoping HTC wouldn't take over 6 months to accomplish the feat. At least it looks like the company is keeping its word, which is refreshing nowadays, to say the least.

Starting this week, HTC will be rolling out Froyo to European Wildfire variants, with the rest of the world following sometime between now and February 2011. Better late than never, I suppose, although by then, we could be seeing Honeycomb and forgetting all about Froyo, let alone Gingerbread.

Sprint's Samsung Intercept Receiving Update To Froyo

It may seem slightly disappointing that Froyo updates are still rolling out even as the Gingerbread source becomes available, but it is good news that Sprint is paying attention to its mid-range phones nonetheless - their version of the Samsung Intercept is now receiving the update to Android 2.2.

Also included in the update are a few bug fixes and the (rather unnecessary) addition of Sprint Navigation. As with most Android updates, it's being rolled out in waves, so it may be a few days before it see it on your device. Intercept users on Virgin Mobile, now might be the time to start pestering your carrier about this update.

Google Loosens Android Market Limitations: App Descriptions Are Now ~1100% Larger (4000 Chars), Recent Changes ~50% Larger (500 Chars)

Google has been making multiple changes to the Android Market recently, with the introduction of 6 additional screenshots, new promo graphics, YouTube video links, recent changes, and a whole new and refreshed Market app. It looks like they're not planning on stopping, as yet another, more subtle, update just hit the Android Market publishing interface, also known as the Developer Console.

The new change expands the previously measly 325 character Description and Recent Changes fields to a whopping 4,000 characters for the Description and 500 characters for the Recent Changes. It looks like the number 4,000 wasn't chosen at random - application descriptions on Apple's iOS platform can occupy exactly this many characters.

Google Maps v5 With 3D Maps And Offline Navigation Is Live In The Market - Download It Now

Google Maps 5, which we have been anxiously waiting for, mostly due to its 3D capabilities and offline map caching, has arrived! You can download the update in the Market by clicking the following QR code from your mobile phone or scanning it with Barcode Scanner:

Here are the new changes:

  • Explore the map in 3D. Two finger drag down/up to tilt; twist to rotate on supported devices.
  • Use compass mode to rotate the map to where you're facing. Center the map with My Location then tap again.
  • Improved map caching and offline Navigation rerouting if you lose your connection.

HTC EVO 4G Receiving Update - Brings Swype, Updates Sprint Apps, And Adds Some Spam

If you had Swype beforehand and you install the update, you may have issues with it. If you do:

... go into the installed applications settings (not the swype settings). First you must clear the application data, then uninstall the application. Then you must shutdown the phone. Then, of course, you must turn it on again. Then you can tap & hold in any text entry field, and you’ll get an “Input method” selection dialogue where you can select Swype again.

First Google TV OTA Update Rolling Out Along With The Official Google TV Remote Control Android App

The users of Google TV will love Google a little more than usual today, as the company is rolling out the first over-the-air update since launch (I am assuming the OTA my Revue prompted me to download out of the box did not count). Refreshingly, there is no fragmentation present with Google TV (yet?), so both the Logitech Revue and the 2 versions of Sony's GTV should be receiving the updates without delays throughout this week.

Before I describe the updates, I just wanted to note that I received my Revue box last week, installed and configured it in about 20 minutes, with all steps being painless and kind of fun, without any problems I've heard some people having.

Facebook For Android Updated To Version 1.5, Brings Chat, Push Notifications, And Bug Fixes

A new update to Facebook for Android just landed on the Market, and it brings a duo of long-awaited features: push notifications and Chat. Naturally, it also packs some bug fixes for good measure.

Personally, I find the new Chat feature to be perfectly adequate, but David is thoroughly unimpressed. His complaints are that it has a boring interface, it's slow, and it just feels tacked on. I don't exactly disagree with any of those points, I just don't think they're major issues. Hell, at this point I'm happy just having chat that works well in the first place.

Evernote For Android Updates With More Advanced Features [Hands-On]

Evernote, everybody's favorite note-taking app platform that allows you to record data using a variety of mediums, including notes, snapshots and recordings, released an update to the Android version of its app yesterday, with a number of advanced features many users have been clamouring for.

Advanced Search

Firstly, Evernote stores a wide variety of different types of notes and information, so it can often become difficult to locate the specific note in question. The latest update alleviates this problem by allowing users to construct advanced search parameters using filters like note tags, notebooks, attributes, location and dates. These advanced searches can then be saved to be accessed later.

[Updated: Hands-On] Breaking: New Android Market APK Ripped, Posted For All To Enjoy

Remember the new, upgraded Android market we told you about last night? Well, now it appears that the APK has been ripped and posted for all to enjoy (or loathe, depending on your personal feelings).

You can find it here  (mirrored by us) and it brings with it all the UI changes and issues (15 minute refund limit) we discussed earlier. I should warn you that as of now, the APK we have only works for stock Android 2.2 devices. I have it working on both my stock Android 2.2 Nexus One and stock Android 2.2 G2.

Update from Artem: It works on my rooted EVO 4G and reportedly works on other rooted devices - root by itself can't affect something like this.
