There's been quite a stir caused in the past few days about a mysterious volume bug which surfaced on the Galaxy Nexus. The bug began drawing attention over at XDA's forums, where several users reported ostensibly random muting, and erratic response from the Nexus' volume rocker.

It was quickly discovered that the issue seemed to have something to do with the use of 2G signal, specifically the use of a 900 MHz frequency used by many European carriers.

While the GetJar Appstore has its advantages, like GetJar Gold for example, it has been lacking one important feature that both the Android Market and Amazon Appstore have: push notification for app updates. In the past, when you downloaded an app from GetJar, the only way of knowing if the app had been updated was by going directly to that apps listing in GetJar.

This put the GetJar App Store at a clear disadvantage over other app markets, as most users aren't willing to manually check the listing for every single installed app.

Update x2: The update is back on, and this time it shouldn't break anything. If you didn't pull it the first go around, you can go ahead and grab it in typical OTA fashion. If, however, you ended up with a Wi-Fi-less tablet after the initial update, you'll need to use the Kies desktop application to pull the the fix. [AC]

Here's the official word from Papa Sammy:

Earlier this morning, Samsung began releasing an over the air software update allowing Galaxy 10.1 users to upgrade to Android 3.2 while also resolving a Wi-Fi connectivity issues some Galaxy 10.1 users experienced following a previous software update.

One of the biggest questions about Minecraft: Pocket Edition since its release on the Android Market has been whether the game will be updated to include survival mode. For those not aware, Minecraft: Pocket Edition currently only supports build mode, a zen-like manner of play in which the user can freely build structures using a variety of materials and tools. Survival mode adds interest, surrounding you and your structures with monsters and animals.

If you use your device for a mobile office, there's a good chance you have Quickoffice Pro installed (and if not, you missed a great opportunity to grab it about a week ago). It's already one of the best mobile office suites around, and it (and Pro HD for tablets) just got a little bit better - it hit version 5, which brings  along with it a herd of new features, tweaks, and improvements.

An update to the Android Market bringing it up to version 3.3.12 surfaced late Friday night. This version seems to be an incremental update to the previously available 3.3.11 - in fact, we're not really sure what exactly changed between the two. A cursory run through all the menus didn't yield any obvious additions, although these improvements could be all under-the-hood.

My initial thought was it's somehow related to the Music announcement, but since the Music tab started showing up without any Market updates in 3.3.11, it must be something else.

Have you ever wondered what the AOSP source tree would look like if someone stitched together a video of every commit, update, and release? Ponder no more, friends, because YouTube user xcco3x has made that a reality. A visually amazing 21 minute reality, to be exact.

A little background info, per the description on YouTube:

The graph represents the source tree. Non-leaf nodes are directories and leaf nodes are files where their color represents the type of file.

Tonight, TouchType Ltd. released a much-anticipated update to SwiftKey X, the text prediction authority among replacement keyboards. The update brings a ton of improvements, from UI tweaks to performance and language changes, and even prediction enhancements. Perhaps more important than all of that, however, is the fact that SwiftKey X 2.2 has full Ice Cream Sandwich support, and an enhanced multi-touch framework, keeping the keyboard replacement ahead of the curve.

Specifically, the update brings the following changes:

    • Full language localization for major European languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portugese)
    • Intelligent typing support extended to 35 languages, including Arabic and Hebrew
    • Enhanced multi-touch framework for faster typing
    • Prediction and correction enhancements thanks to a more efficient Fluency engine
    • Graphic enhancements, including a better settings menu, alternative character selection and sharing features
    • Enhancements to the keyboard to change the height in both portrait and landscape modes
    • New Dvorak and Colemak layouts for those who wish to depart from QWERTY
    • Reduced memory use
    • Full Support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

If you aren't already a fan of SwiftKey X, these enhancement should go a long way in convincing you.

If you've been envious of some of the awesome new games rolling out for Tegra devices, then you'll be happy to know that two popular Tegra-only titles - Shadowgun and Sprinkle - have just been updated to bring compatibility to non-Tegra devices.

Shadowgun, a futuristic action-shooter, is probably one of the best games for Android to date, sporting insanely good graphics, a decent storyline, and compelling gameplay. This is one game that should definitely be a welcome addition to any gamer's catalog.
