While the US variant of the Motorola XOOM recently received Android 3.2, the European version has been patiently waiting to leave version 3.0.1. That wait is finally coming to its end, as the official Android 3.1 OTA has started rolling out in Europe, according to Motorola EU's Facebook page. Of course, this is a staged rollout, so it may be days - or even weeks - before some users actually see it hit their device.
The official YouTube app just received an update that brings a few new features to the app, as well as the obligatory bug fixes and performance improvements:
- Edit the title, description and privacy of your uploaded videos
- New uploading UI integrated into the app
- Create/Edit/Delete playlists on the go
The update is live in the device Market now, and should be hitting the Web Market shortly.
Earlier today, HTC and AT&T began pushing out the official Gingerbread OTA to Inspire 4G handsets across the nation. This update brings all of the added features of Gingerbread, along with some enhancements to Sense, and bug fixes:
- Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread
- New HTC Sense™ features
- Updated Application Tray features
- Updated FriendStream™ features
- Added Quick Settings in the Notifications window
- Improved Power Management function
- Improved media experience
- Various minor bug fixes
To manually check for the update, head into the Settings menu > AT&T Software Update > HTC Wi-Fi Software Update > Check now.
Motorola XOOM 3G owners, today is your lucky day. Okay, well, maybe not lucky, but still good - the OTA update to Android 3.2 has officially started rolling out. This update brings some subtle, yet nice new features to the Motorola tablet:
The Android 3.2 update for the Verizon 3G (soon-to-be 4G) XOOM can be flashed right now, before it hits your device over-the-air.
If you've flashed a custom recovery (and gave up the warranty), you can find update instructions over at MDW - in this case, you don't need our instructions below. This option is good for those with unlocked bootloaders (though if you're rooted, it seems the only update option right now is to install a pre-rooted update which will wipe your device).
To all those who have been [im]patiently waiting for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 OTA to go live, wait no more - the update started rolling out at exactly 12:00am EST. This update brings a whole slew of awesome to the Tab 10.1, including TouchWiz UX and all of its added benefits. I know there are a lot of skeptics out there since this is the first major custom overlay to hit a Honeycomb tablet, but judging from the early reports, it has been very well received.
The official Gingerbread build for the HTC Desire was released a few days ago, but it was pushed out as an RUU, not in typical OTA (over-the-air) fashion like we've all become accustomed to. I think there has been some confusion about HTC's plans for the Desire, as we've received several emails asking when an OTA may become available.
I pinged HTC on Twitter to get an answer to that question and, to put it simply, there isn't going to be one.
Skysoft... errr, I mean Skype updated its previously measly Android device support from 5 devices to more than 20 today with the introduction of version 2.1 of its Android app. There are no new features outside of expanded device support, which was badly needed in order for the app to climb out of the sea of 1-star reviews (although stability and quality improvements would have made today's release even sweeter).
So, how's that for exciting news, TBolt owners? Since HTC clearly missed the Q2 update window that was originally announced, they moved it to the next logical choice... Q3. That's probably the best decision, especially when you consider the fact that we're already well into Q3.
The official word, per an HTC representative:
Update: Now with video from the head project manager of Google+
