BaconReader Updated To Version 2.1 With UI Overhaul, Spoiler Alerts, And More

BaconReader, one of the most popular Reddit-browsing clients available for Android, has just received a major update to version 2.1. Among other things, the update brings a new "Welcome Guide" for new users, access to subreddit sidebars, subscription functionality, support for spoiler alerts, a dark theme for the app's "large" widget, and a few minor fixes.

Of course the real story in this update is the app's UI overhaul. BaconReader has finally crossed over to a new design, which ostensibly follows the highly-exalted Android Design Guidelines.

Skype Updated To Version 2.9.0.315 With Bluetooth Improvements, Bug Fixes

Skype, providers of one of the most popular IM and video calling clients available, deployed an update for the service's Android app today, bringing it up to version 2.9.0.315 and packing a few minor, yet very much needed fixes and enhancements.

Among the changes in 2.9.0.315 are more reliable connection with Bluetooth headsets, support for a wider range of headsets, and several key bug fixes. Here's the full change log:

Amazon Appstore Updates To Version 4.0 With A New UI, Promises To Fix That Horrible Battery Bug

It's not just European markets that are getting some Amazon-related goodies today. The Appstore has been updated to version 4.0 (technically, version 4.0.634.0, but who's counting right?) and brings with it an improved UI, the ability to remove items from the My Apps section and, perhaps most importantly to Artem, a fix for a major battery drain bug. All good news!

The new UI doesn't look too much different from the old version, aside from getting rid of a lot of the white, opting instead for the darker theme that's more in line with the Kindle Fire UI.

HBO GO And MAX GO Updated With Jelly Bean Support, MAX GO Still Incompatible With Tablets

Home Box Office Inc. brought updates to their HBO GO and HBO MAX apps today, adding various bug fixes, performance enhancements, and support for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

For those who aren't familiar, HBO GO (which just got support for tablets running Android 4.0.4 and below last month), provides a mobile streaming service for those with eligible HBO subscriptions through participating television providers. Likewise, MAX GO provides mobile streaming for eligible Cinemax customers.

Google Rolls Out A 'Recommended For You' Section In The Play Store, Tells You What Apps You'll Like And Why

It looks like Google has added a new feature to the Play Store on devices that will recommend apps to users based on personalized criteria. In a new section, you can find apps that have been +1'd by your friends, apps that are popular in your area, and even apps that are "popular with similar users" based on some undisclosed criteria.

PayPal Updated With UI Overhaul, 'Features That Matter To You Most'

PayPal's official Android app received a big update recently, bringing it up to version 4.0.0.1. The update carries a much-needed interface redesign, bringing the web payment solution's mobile client more into line with Android's design language. Using a warm, espresso-and-orange color scheme with a few well-placed textures and conservative gradients, the app's new interface looks infinitely better than its previous iteration.

Google Now Gets Its First Update, Now Supports Movie Showtimes, Public Alerts, And The Ability To Manually Add Sports Teams

One of the coolest features in Jelly Bean, Google Now, just got its first major update since Android 4.1 was released. The update brings some oft-requested features:

  • Movies - see movie showtimes and more
  • Public alerts - receive emergency messages such as storm warnings and earthquake alerts

[Download] Jelly Bean Test Build (JRO03O) Available For The Verizon Galaxy Nexus

While the GSM Galaxy Nexus has been running Jelly Bean since Google I/O, there hasn't been a single word of the update for the Verizon Nexus. Until now.

Last night, one lucky XDA member received a system update on his phone to install build JRO03O, which is the newest Jelly Bean build we've heard of.

HTC EVO 4G LTE Receives Software Update To Android 4.0.4, Sense 4.1 (Build 2.13.651.1)

Owners of Sprint's One X-inspired EVO 4G LTE may be interested to know that they can expect a minor software update to begin rolling out over the air today. The update, which carries software build 2.13.651.1, brings the device up to Android 4.0.4 with Sense 4.1 on top, meaning the menu bar fix the HTC One X got a few weeks ago has arrived, among other things.

The update's other offerings include a fix for random browser closes, a minor Bluetooth fix, an updated version of both Google Wallet and Sprint's Visual Voicemail, and an LTE scanning improvement that should help users better find Sprint's burgeoning 4G network.
