25-Archos-G9

Owners of Archos' G9 series of tablets should be receiving an update today, bringing the software version of their devices to 4.0.7. The update contains mostly bug fixes, but also enhances graphics performance:

Version 4.0.7 - June 19th, 2012

  • Applications: fix no audio when launching video capture impacting applications like Skype
  • Display: graphics performance enhancements
  • Hard drive based products: avoid potential loss of hard drive when 3G USB port is switched on with no peripheral attached
  • Wi-Fi: fix some more disconnect cases happening on some access points

Archos has been fairly consistent about updating the devices regularly - the last OTA update went out just over a month ago.

And you thought carriers/manufacturers didn't care about their customers! You should be ashamed of yourself! Turns out that carriers actually do care - why else would Big Red be preparing an OTA update for the old school Droid Incredible. Sure, it's far from a major update, but it it something:

Popular deals service Groupon has had its Android app facelifted, resulting in a new look, as well as a couple new features and services. Take a look at the brand-new UI:

As you can see, the app now looks looks decidedly more Ice Cream Sandwich-y, has added a universal share button, and swipeable categories. You'll also notice new categories for Pets and Rewards (spend enough money at certain businesses and you get loyalty rewards).

Back at CES in January we got a first glance at Sony's latest flagship phone, the Xperia Ion. In our time with it, the device made an impression with its 720P display and 12 megapixel camera. As expected, this device is finally showing up on AT&T with an announcement today of the device's availability later this month.

As you can see, this is a phone with some serious media credentials.

Verizon just started pushing a small OTA update to the Droid Bionic that brings a few small enhancements to the device:

  • Recalibrated volume of the call connect and disconnect tones to be more comfortable for Bluetooth® users.
  • Improved Visual Voice Mail to ensure delivery of a notification to the Status bar.
  • Reduced data stalls to improve 4G LTE data connectivity

While it's not ICS, hopefully it will fix the LTE issues that users have been experiencing for quite some time.

Everyone loves Amazon, and thankfully for Android owners, their app has always been pretty solid. Thanks to an update to version 1.6 that was pushed to the Play store last night, it's now even better:

What's in this version:

- Brand new ways to sort and filter your search results.
- Faster, easier navigation with a Cart shortcut and drop-down menu of the most popular pages.
- Launch barcode scanning directly from the home screen.

The last time we covered Aviary, the powerful mobile photo editor was limited to being launched as a plugin inside the stock gallery app. Now, Aviary the company has booted Aviary the photo editor from the nest, launching it as a standalone app. Users everywhere rejoice, as they can now find Aviary after installing it.

In addition to the apps' newfound independence, Aviary has added a few new features: a customizable interface, a color temperature tool, and basic effects like black and white and sepia tones.

ASUS just started pushing a nice little update to the Transformer Prime that brings a number of enhancements to the device:

  • GPS dongle fix & local notification
  • Ethernet UI support to set Ethernet connect policy when screen off
  • Add system bar lock settings for showing/hiding system info
  • Enable Face Unlock feature
  • Support Bluetooth HDP
  • Third party app upgrade
  • Other bug fixes

Hopefully, this update will also bring the performance boost that the Transformer Pad 300 received with its most recent OTA, but we'll have to see.

T-Mobile-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-official-launch-date

We already knew that today was the big day for T-Mobile's Galaxy S II to receive Ice Cream Sandwich. T-Mobile has just let on that the rollout will begin tonight at 11pm EST. The update will be done via Kies, so unfortunately the update won't be showing up over the air. Hope you've got a microUSB cable handy.

The update is just slightly behind the 4.0.4 that other devices have been receiving, but users probably won't be complaining too much.

If you're fortunate enough to have Ice Cream Sandwich on your smartphone (either officially or unofficially), then you already know that the stock launcher is a huge improvement over previous versions of Android. However, it's not perfect.

Enter my personal favorite third-party launcher for ICS devices: Nova. This isn't the first time that we've mentioned Nova Launcher on AP, but it just received an update that definitely brings some note-worthy enhancements to an already-great application.
