Samsung Galaxy SIII 16GB Now Available For Pre-Order For £499.95 From Amazon UK

Update: It looks like Amazon Germany also has the device up for pre-order for the slightly lower price of EUR 588.90 ($766.34). There is no release date indicated, but the earlier press release suggests it will be available from May 29th, 2012.

Samsung's next flagship smartphone finally launched last week and we spent many paragraphs proffering our opinions on it. Most of us cannot wait to get our grubby hands on it, but it looks like UK customers will be getting it pretty soon, as the Galaxy SIII has gone up for pre-order on Amazon UK.

The 16GB version of the Galaxy SIII in Pebble Blue or Marble White will retail for £499.95 ($806.67) and will be available from the expected release date of May 30th, 2012.

Three UK Rolls Out New "Essential" And "Ultimate" Plans, Promises Fear-Free Mobile Internet

Three UK, the mobile network provider in Britain popular for its unlimited data plans without fair usage policies, has rolled out two new plans for their smartphone customers today which promise fear-free mobile internet.

The first plan, Essential, starts at £15 and provides customers with a choice of 100, 300 or 500 minutes per month as well as a 250MB data allowance. The idea behind this tariff is to stop bill shock, as your data will be cut off automatically when you reach your monthly data quota. If you'd like to purchase more data, you can choose to pay an additional £2 for a further 250MB or pay £5 extra for all-you-can-eat data for the rest of the month, which doesn't have any fair usage policies applied to it.

ASUS UK: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Coming To Transformer In The Next Week

After ASUS's Singapore Facebook stated an Android 4.0 OTA would be hitting the OG Transformer as late as March, it now seems that ASUS UK's Facebook page is indicating that said update will be landing in the next week:

Our engineers are working hard on getting this ready for you as soon as possible and are still aiming for a February release. As always as soon as we hear any further news or a definitive date we will let you know.

While different regions do have differing release time frames for various reasons (eg, language support), you'd think ASUS would go about announcing this sort of information in a way that might be slightly, uh, organized.

ASUS Extends Full Refund Or Warranty Extension To Unhappy Transformer Prime Owners Who Reside In The UK

If you happen to own a Transformer Prime TF201, you may be a little disappointed by the issues it had right off the bat. The most notable defect with the TF201 is its inability to properly use the GPS module that was originally advertised as a feature. Due to bad placement and the material the tablet is made out of, ASUS was forced to entirely remove GPS as a feature.

Aside from that major issue, the Prime is still a very solid tablet. However, if the other bug fixes and the ICS update didn't make you much happier, you'll be pleased to know that ASUS is stepping up to the plate and offering refunds or warranty extensions to TF201 owners.

Netflix Android App Appears In The UK And Ireland

Despite recent stumbles, Netflix has successfully managed to become the de facto video streaming service in the US, Canada, and Latin America and now it has set its sights on Europe by launching in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This also means that the highly rated Netflix Android app is now available to Android device owners in those same countries.

Netflix has recently also negotiated a number of deals with various broadcasters and film studios, including Miramax, BBC, Lionsgate, MGM, Sony, Disney, Paramount, Channel 4, and ITV. These contracts will include the rights to stream shows like Doctor Who, Top Gear, Little Britain, Torchwood, Miss Marple, and Fawlty Towers.

Android Market Carrier Billing Comes To More Networks In South Korea, The UK, And Germany

Google has made good on its promise to expand carrier billing for the Android Market internationally today, introducing the feature to customers on various carriers in three countries. This is great news for consumers, and even better news for developers.

South Korean users on SK Telecom and KT Corporation, UK users on Vodafone UK, and German users on Vodafone DE will all be receiving access to direct carrier billing in the coming weeks.

Carrier billing is a major feature for users in countries outside the US, where Google Checkout support for regional banks and credit cards can often be severely wanting.

UK Ad Watchdog Tells Motorola Not To Lie - Has Atrix Advert Banned

It has not been a good week for Android manufacturers in Europe. Shortly, after it was announced by a Dutch court that Samsung had infringed one of Apple's patents, a Motorola Atrix advertisement was banned in the UK for falsely claiming to be the "world's most powerful smartphone".

The UK Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) received complaints from Samsung users that the Atrix ads were misleading. The Atrix features a 1GHz dual-core processor, while the Samsung Galaxy S II has a faster 1.2GHz dual-core processor. The 200 MHz difference in speed was enough to convince the ASA that the Atrix was not the most powerful smartphone and so it could not claim as such.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 3G Available For Pre-Order On Amazon UK For £605.34, Launches On August 12th

Unveiled at CTIA earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 was slated for a “summer” launch in the US. However, if the Amazon UK pre-order page is the real deal it looks like our English cousins will be the first to get their hands on this device when it launches on August 12th in the UK (the original “in stock date” was reported as August 11th by Engadget, however this appears to have changed).

The 3G-enabled device can be pre-ordered for £605.34 and according to the Amazon page it will be available in “pure white”. There does not appear to be any indication of how much memory this particular version will have, however the rather exorbitant price suggests that this is likely to be the 32GB version (priced at $569 in the US).

T-Mobile UK Offers Truly Unlimited Data On All Plans Over £25 Until September 30, Tethering Not Included

Us Brits are pretty hard off when it comes to data plans. Tariffs may not be as expensive as they are in the States, but you can expect to have a pretty tight data allowance when you purchase a smartphone on this side of the pond.

Although most carriers don't allow more than a few GB per month, Three UK has recently launched the One plan, which offers truly unlimited data on all plans which are £35 a month. The plan has proved popular with the iPhone and Android phones, and it seems as though other networks may finally be thinking about following suit.

The Economist Lands On Android, Brings Exclusivity And Class To Your Handheld

UK based news publication The Economist released its official Android app into the Market today, bringing all of the features of the magazine to your handset. This app differs a bit from other publication based apps, as the download is free, and offers free access to editor's highlights - no subscription required. Naturally, if you are already a subscriber, you can access full cover-to-cover versions of the magazine, download them for offline viewing, switch between reading and listening, and access/download pervious issues.

The Economist app also utilizes in-app purchases for people who only want occasional access. If you see an edition of the mag that you're interested in, simply grab your device and buy it - no need to buy a full subscription.
