Still Haven't Received The Android 4.0 Update On Your Transformer TF101? Here's How To Install It Manually

Many TF101 owners have been [im]patiently waiting on Android 4.0 to hit their devices for at least a week now to no avail. Of course, knowing an update is floating around out there and having to wait for it is even more frustrating than actually waiting for the update to become available, so ASUS UK took to its Facebook page earlier today with a tip on how to get your hands on the update right now from the ASUS support pages for the TF101.

Seems pretty straightforward, right? The only caveat to be aware of is that there are a few different versions of the 4.0.3 update available for different regions, so make sure you download the correct one.

Last week, the CyanogenMod team launched the first CM9 nightly builds for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Motorola XOOM. As of today, the following devices also have CM9 nightly builds available:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi and I/O Edition (download: p4wifi) - yay for the latter, as it seems Samsung completely abandoned it - I believe mine is still running 3.1 with no updates in sight.
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 SGH-T859 on T-Mobile (download: p4tmo)
  • Samsung Galaxy S II (download: galaxys2) - I wouldn't try this on carrier-specific U.S. variants if I were you, wait for those to surface separately.

[MWC 2012] Hands-On With The Qualcomm S4 Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700KG): Hey, Look - An Antenna Window

While at the Google booth earlier today, ASUS was kind enough to let us take a look at the upcoming Transformer Pad Infinity (basically, a beefed up TF Prime), albeit a version we had not yet seen.

The TF700KG is likely going to be a Europe-only device (unless it were to be picked up by a major carrier here in the US), as it has a 4G LTE SIM slot on it, and runs on a Qualcomm S4 MSM8960 dual-core processor. The Infinity also has a 1920x1200 IPS display, significantly higher than the resolution of the Prime. However, one of the biggest changes many people noted that would be coming to the new-and-improved Transformer was the antenna window.

[Updated x2: US And UK On February 24] Ice Cream Sandwich Update For ASUS Transformer TF101 Rolling Out Now, Starting With Taiwan

Update #1: According to ASUS' Twitter, the Android 4.0 update should begin rolling out in the U.S. tomorrow, February 24th. Yay!

Update #2: ASUS UK confirmed the same date.

After numerous delays and much confusion (mostly due to ASUS Singapore being more out of touch with reality than other regional divisions), ASUS finally started the Ice Cream Sandwich over-the-air update process for the original Transformer TF101 today.

The official ASUS Facebook account stated that the OTA with version number 9.2.1.11 is going to be available in Taiwan first, followed by other regions "soon after." Hopefully, that means the rest of the world will be able to enjoy ICS within the next few days, barring any unexpected issues.

ASUS UK: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Coming To Transformer In The Next Week

After ASUS's Singapore Facebook stated an Android 4.0 OTA would be hitting the OG Transformer as late as March, it now seems that ASUS UK's Facebook page is indicating that said update will be landing in the next week:

A quick refresher on the TF101 ICS Update that you are all so patiently waiting for. Our engineers are working hard on getting this ready for you as soon as possible and are still aiming for a February release. As always as soon as we hear any further news or a definitive date we will let you know.

While different regions do have differing release time frames for various reasons (eg, language support), you'd think ASUS would go about announcing this sort of information in a way that might be slightly, uh, organized.

ASUS Releases Transformer Prime Bootloader Unlock Software, Now Available For Download

Early last month, it was revealed to much outcry that the Transformer Prime had a locked bootloader. Angry customers took to the forums to vent and started a petition to get Asus to change its stance. And just 24 hours later, that's what happened, with Asus promising an unlock tool down the road.

Today Asus delivered, with the unlock tool hitting the TP's support site:

TL;DR: Caveat emptor.

The company strongly suggests customers stay away from unlocking the bootloader, stating:

You also acknowledge ASUS does not guarantee service satisfaction to any Revised Product, including events involving paid service requested by you to be performed to the Revised Product.

New Transformer Prime Update (9.4.2.14) Rolling Out Now - Little Official Word, But Reports Of Better Battery Life And Speeds

Just 9 days ago, Asus rolled out an update for the quad-core Transfomer Prime that brought things to build 9.4.2.13. Today, a new (apparently incremental) was released that brings things up to 9.4.2.14. The only official word we have on the update is from Gary Key, Technical Marketing Manager at Asus, in an XDA thread:

.14 will be released tomorrow (US/TW, WW/DE/Others early next week) ,should solve the power problems that some users experienced after the .13 update.

Early downloaders are reporting that lower power states (such as when the device is idling) are back, which is resulting in better battery life.

ASUS Singapore Indicates Delay For Ice Cream Sandwich Update On The Transformer, Again - Now Pushed Back To As Late As March

ASUS Transformer owners will be forced to wait even longer for a promised update to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), the company revealed on its Singapore Facebook page late last night. Here's the statement:

Dear fellow Asus members, we would like to say that we appreciate all the support we see in our Asus Facebook page every day. It makes our contributions worthwhile and fulfilling.

We are informed that the ICS upgrade for TF101 will be ready within the Feb/March 2012 period. You will be able to receive the upgrade notification via FOTA once we have a confirmation date.

Update: Looks like it was a pricing error, as the listing has been pulled. Bummer, dude.

The tour de force Asus Transformer Prime (which I reviewed in early December and came away highly impressed by) is listed at HH Gregg for just $400 - that's both in store (if you can find it one available, anyway) and online, too. That may not seem like seem like a bargain for the uninitiated who are more accustomed to the $400 price tag of the original Transformer, but keep in mind that this is the newer, much sleeker, and much more powerful Tegra 3-touting Prime model, which normally retails for $500.

ASUS: Transformer TF101 Ice Cream Sandwich Update To Roll Out By Early February '12

Owners of the original ASUS Transformer (TF101) were ecstatic last week when ASUS promised the Ice Cream Sandwich update to roll out shortly after the one for the Prime, meaning any day after January 12th was fair game. Considering ICS for the Prime went out early, and shortly after ASUS Singapore posted this

ASUS Singapore Hi Gabriele Gab, are you referring to TF101? If so, it will be getting the update as well tomorrow. Thanks.

and then retracted it, we reached out to our ASUS U.S. rep to get everyone's stories straight.

[Correction] Dear all members, please kindly note that we have just received information from HQ that for TF101 update to ICS, as all has to be approved by Google, thus estimated availability to update to ICS will be around end of this month. Apologies for the error earlier. Thanks for your kind understanding.

Here's the current timeline relayed to us directly by ASUS: the ICS update for the original Transformer TF101 will be released by early February (and not late January, as ASUS SG is suggesting, although the difference is so small that either one of these projections could end up being correct).
