At the beginning of March, ASUS became the first company to push Android 4.2 to a non-Nexus device when the update came to the TF300. At the time, the company promised 4.2 for the TF700 and MeMO Pad Smart sometime "in the second quarter." We're now three days into Q2, and ASUS has started pushing the update to the TF700 (Infinity). Talk about delivering on promises.

It's that time again, Transformer Pad Infinity owners! The latest incremental update to Android 4.1 is out and ready to flash for US, Japan, China, and Taiwan models, and the international version to boot. You can check your Settings menu for the over-the-air download, or head over to the ASUS download page if you're not seeing it immediately.

So what's new? A few bugs for the camera, Mio map, and movie studio app are fixed, and compatibility with newer MicroSD cards is enhanced. Some incidences of music playback lag have been adjusted, and the Polaris Office suite has been updated for more accurate Turkish display.

Time for day two of our NVIDIA Tegra holiday giveaways! We'll be holding 2 more Tegra-themed giveaways in addition to this one over the next couple days - so be sure to come back every day through Sunday to check out the latest one. Today's giveaway is - you guessed it - more tablets! We're offering up the ASUS Transform Pad Infinity (TF700) and Transformer Pad 300 (TF300T), both bundled with their respective keyboard docks - both of which pack Tegra 3 quad-core power.

What's so special about Tegra 3?

If you're looking for a tablet that can also function as a laptop, it's hard to beat ASUS' Transformer series. And out of the current lineup, the reigning champ is definitely the Infinity. Its 1900x1200 display is one of the best you can get in an Android tablet, and the 1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 3 keeps things running smoothly. Plus, when coupled with the keyboard dock, the battery life is pretty phenomenal. The thing is - even at Amazon's price of $630 - it's a little on the steep side, given the current competition.

If this device is on your Christmas wishlist this holiday season, however, a very appropriate price for the tablet and dock combo pack just showed up over at Adorama: the whole setup can be yours for a cool, crisp five-hundred dollar bill.

If you own ASUS' first full HD tablet - the Transformer Pad Infinity - the custom ROM scene just got quite a bit better for you. Why, you ask? Because the TF700T is now officially support by CyanogenMod, and the first CM10 nightly is already available.

Of course, in order to flash this you'll need to unlock the bootloader, which, in turn, voids the warranty. It's also worth noting that once you abandon ASUS' stock firmware, there's currently no way to go back, despite the fact that ASUS makes the update blobs available (I learned this the hard way with the TF201).

A small update is making is way to the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700), bringing a slew of minor bug fixes along with it. We actually got our hands on a changelog this time (a rarity for ASUS):

Camera (All SKUs)

  • Fix the issue that switching to front camera in Facebook app would cause Facebook app to crash.

Wi-Fi (All SKUs)

  • Fix the issue that some 802.1x Wi-Fi APs cannot be connected after upgrading to Jelly Bean.

ASUS Software Keyboard (All SKUs)

  • Fix the issue that "Y" and "Z" characters are opposite in ASUS Czech (QWERTY) keyboard.
  • Fix the issue that Backspace key on dock does not work in Browser input field to delete words randomly.

Last week, ASUS promised Jelly Bean to TF201 and TF700 owners, and while the former got its update right on time, there was an issue that prevented the update from being pushed to the latter. As a result, ASUS said the update would be available "early next week." Here we are, about as early as it can possibly get in the new week, and the OTA has already begun rolling out.

As expected, it brings Android 4.1.1 and all the enhancements that come along with it, including Project Butter and Google Now.

You can pull the update by heading into Settings > About tablet > System Firmware Update > Check now.

Just yesterday, ASUS promised both TF201 and TF700 owners their Jelly Bean updates on September 28th and 29th, respectively. While they owned up to that for the Prime, the Infinity isn't so lucky: they just had to push the update back.

According to ASUS rep Gary Key, "a couple of applications that were recently updated (Facebook 1.9.10 on 9/20 as one example) required a last minute firmware update for the keyboard to operate correctly in the "Comment" area with Android 4.1."

It's not all bad, though - the update should still begin rolling out early next week. Personally, I'd rather wait a few more days for a fully working OS than have to deal with a buggy system right now, anyway.

When ASUS announced the Jelly Bean update for the Transformer Prime in Sweden yesterday, there were two questions that immediately popped up: what about the rest of the world? and when will the Infinity get updated?

We now have answers to both, even if in the simplest of terms: soon.

Update: ASUS rep Gary Key took to the XDA forums to give users a better timeline of when the updates should begin rolling out. According to his post, the OTAs should start hitting within 72 hours. Nice.

ASUS posted today on its Facebook page that the JB update would be coming to the Prime and Infinity and for users to "watch this space." There's no exact word when the updates will begin rolling out, but the last time they publicly teased an OTA, it started rolling out a mere 12 hours later.

A small update is now available for the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity that is very similar to the one we saw hit the Transformer Pad 300 way back in May. While most of the enhancements appear to be under the hood, this build brings Face Unlock, as well as improved camera firmware, a bump in GPS software, and a few others.

Those who have unlocked the bootloader and are running a custom recovery won't be prompted to install this update, but ASUS has already made it available for download on its website. You can grab the download here - make sure to get the appropriate build according to your region: WW, US, TW, JP, and CN.
