Welcome to the latest entry in our Bonus Round series, wherein we tell you all about the new Android games of the day that we couldn't get to during our regular news rounds. Consider this a quick update for the dedicated gamers who can't wait for our bi-weekly roundups, and don't want to wade through a whole day's worth of news just to get their pixelated fix. Today we've got a sci-fi tower defense game, a unique endless runner, a game in which many, many virtual hamsters are maimed, a shmup starring Nikola Tesla, and a digital translation of a popular card game.

After an initial release in Canada, Zynga's latest attempt to addict millions of mobile gamers is now available to the greater Play Store. Eden to Green fits broadly in the tower defense genre, with a variety of flowers fighting off an army of invading machines. (So it's like Terminator meets The Happening.) The game is a free download, though device support seems a bit spotty: my ancient HTC Incredible shows as compatible, while my nearly-new Galaxy Note 8.0 does not.

Kingdom Rush has amassed quite the following since it first appeared as a flash game in 2011 and an iPad port half a year later. Critics called it one of the best and most engaging games of its genre. Today, Ironhide Game Studio launched an Android version into the Play Store that has already been met with praise from users.

Fieldrunners 2 from Subatomic Studios is the sequel to one of the most popular mobile tower defense games out there. If you loved the look and feel of the first game, you're in luck. Fieldrunners 2 turns the charm up a notch and ushers in a host of new content. But if you had your fill of the original or tower defense games in general, I wouldn't say there is enough here to bring you back into the genre.

If cartoony tower defense is your thing and you haven't yet bought into the Fieldrunners franchise, you're missing out on some of the best TD action you can get your hands on. Colorful, fun, and graphically pleasing, Fieldrunners is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise tired gaming genre. And today, the sequel hit the Play Store.

Fieldrunners 2 brings even more guns, bombs, lasers, and other deadly tools to the scene, while still keeping that same familiar look and feel that made the original such a fantastic game.

If you like corny puns and tower defense, NAMCO is ready to harvest your money and time with Corn Quest. This tower defense game puts you in charge of an army of vegetable minions. You're the kernel—get it? GET IT?!—and it's up to you to save your stalks from the evil aliens. You do this with guns. Because vegetables have guns.

The game play functions just about like any other tower defense game.

If you're looking for something new in the stagnating world of tower defense, this is it. City Conquest turns the genre on its head, by forcing players to defend their own territory and attack others simultaneously, with a combination of real-time and turn-based gameplay. It's a bit hard to wrap your head around, but trust me, the experience is well worth the effort. City Conquest is a free download in the Play Store (ad-supported, no in-app purchases) for devices running Android 4.0 or later with a resolution of at least 960x720.

Tower defense games are great. Tired and done to death, sure, but the good ones are really fantastic. Anomaly Warzone Earth and the sequel Anomaly Korea are two of the better entries in the genre, having the distinguishing factor of playing role reversal. In these, you're not building towers, you're trying to slip past them. Now, both titles are half off on the Play Store, each costing a mere $2.

Normally, each game individually is priced at $4 and now you can get both for the same price.

Ready for the most incongruous mobile game since Antz Racing hit the Game Boy Color? The latest release from Big Blue Bubble is a fairly standard entry in the tower defense genre, inexplicably licensed from the 10-year-old raunchy comedy movie Old School. Yes, really. Old School Defense tasks the player with defending the frat house from party crashers, including cops, jocks, nerds, and hippies. You use the various pledges from the movie as defense turrets, leveling them up as the round progresses.

Big Blue Bubble has become notable for solid games like Burn The Rope, but given the somewhat limited appeal of this particular title, they went to AppBackr (it's exactly what it sounds like: Kickstarter for mobile apps) to garner support.
