It's no secret that Toshiba's first attempt at an Android tablet was on the receiving end of a decent amount of criticism for its less-than-ideal size, so the company decided to super-model up its newest offering to the world, the Excite X10. The Excite, the world's thinnest tablet (for the moment at least), coming in at a mere 7.7mm thick and weighing in at only 1.2lbs. Unfortunately, while it may be able to wear the first!

Toshiba Thrive 7 Review: Less Like The Original Than You Might Think - But That's A Good Thing

The Toshiba Thrive and I don't exactly have a great history. And that's probably putting it mildly. In fact, in my first review of Toshiba's first Tegra 2 tablet (yes, I had to write a second one) earlier this year, I panned it so hard that I basically just started textually abusing the poor thing. So, at the behest of commenters and colleagues, I rewrote it. My revised review (here) was a little less harsh, but I'll be the first to admit: I didn't like the Thrive, and after spending even more time with it after the review, my feelings were unchanged.

Toshiba Excite Is Official: 7.7mm, 1.2Ghz OMAP, And Up To 64GB Of Storage

We've been hearing about Toshiba's new ultra-thin tablet for about a week now, and the Japanese manufacturer made it official at today's IFA event. Known as the AT200 Excite, this ultra thin tablet is quite impressive in spec and size, considering it's thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Tab 10.1, yet still manages to include microSD, microUSB, and microHDMI.

Full specs:

10.1-inch 1280x800 LCD display
1.2GHz dual-core OMAP 4430
1GB DDR2 RAM
Built-in storage up to 64GB
microSD, microUSB, and microHDMI (!)
5MP and 2MP cameras
7.7mm, 558g
Up to 8 hour battery life
Android 3.2

The Excite is set to land in Europe in Q4 2011, with no word of US availability of price at this time.

First Photos Surface: Toshiba's Beautiful New Excite Tablet

Remember a couple of days ago when we reported that Toshiba may be unveiling a slim new tablet at IFA to compete with the Galaxy Tab 10.1? It turns out the rumor was true, and Notebook Italia has released the first live photos of what we suspect will be called the Toshiba Excite.

Despite the iffy appearance of the various ports shown in the initial renders, Notebook Italia confirms that the tablet has microSD, microUSB, and mini HDMI ports. Rumor has it that this beauty is also packing a 1.5GHz dual-core processor (the OMAP4460 from Texas Instruments, to be exact).

We'll be keeping you updated as Toshiba releases more information at IFA Berlin.

Back in April, before Toshiba had officially revealed the name of its upcoming tablet, one Babyfacemagee did some serious detective work to figure out that it would be called the Thrive - and ended up being dead-on. Fast-forward a few months, and we're hearing rumors of a new, slimmer, sexier Galaxy Tab-fighter from Toshiba.

While we've yet to hear (or see) anything official from the company, Babyfacemagee seems to have come through with the name once again. This time around, it seems that the tablet will (quite fittingly) be dubbed the Excite.

Toshiba Thrive Rooted, Superuser Permissions Enabled, ClockworkMod Recovery Flashed

It has been quite an exciting (and busy) night for Thrive owners and hackers. The community managed to root the device, enable Superuser Permissions, and flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Thus far only a handful of people have taken the plunge, so issues could still arise, but preliminary results are looking good. In their own words:

Mine is the second fully working Thrive with Superuser access, Dalepl was first, and austeregrim bricked his to get shell root so we could get the system dump. NatolX bricked his to prove they have an unlocked bootloader.

...Please note take this at your own risk, this is just a preliminary step, and I happen to know it might only work on the latest OTA for the Thrive (dunno about later Toshiba updates).

Toshiba Thrive Honeycomb Tablet Re-Review: Let's Try This Again

After much debate, several upset comments, and a number of good points made - I've decided to rewrite the review of the Toshiba Thrive. Admittedly, the first review lacked the kind of thorough objectivity we usually try to achieve when we look at new hardware, and it's not fair to readers to make a jump to the conclusion without a complete analysis first. I apologize.

The Toshiba Thrive has been a darling of the Android community since it was unveiled way back in January at CES in Las Vegas, when it was still just the young, nameless "Toshiba Tablet." Fast-forward 7 months, it's July, and the Thrive is finally here - but has it matured well?
