Tiny Thief Pulls A Bait And Switch, Runs Off With Your Original $2.99 And Goes Freemium [Updated]

Update #1: Rovio has since taken to its blog to address the issue. Regarding Android in particular, the company has this to say:

On Android the issue occurs because, for technical reasons, the purchase history cannot always be restored on that platform. Our customer support is aware of the issue and we would recommend contacting us at [email protected] to anyone who is still experiencing this.

We've reached out to the company for further clarification.

Update #2: Rovio has confirmed that previous customers should still have access to the original five levels without having to buy anything again, but it encourages them to contact its support line rather than wait for the app to recognize their purchase history.

Tiny Thief Review: How Rovio Stars' Debut Android Game Stole My Heart

I don't think much of silent films, but I tend to melt when I come across a game that successfully conveys a plot without the use of speech. Each stage in Tiny Thief feels like a short skit, much like a single clip of Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry, only with a feeling of continuity as you progress from one to the next. It has the look and feel of a mobile game, and it's immensely easy to pick up and play, but there's a surprising degree of depth here and an undeniable degree of love and care holding it all together.

[New Game] Rovio Stars' Tiny Thief Steals Its Way Into The Play Store, Wants To Make Off With Your Jewels

Rovio Stars' Tiny Thief is the story of an adorable bite-sized Robin Hood. The entire world is corrupt, with palace guards, rogue pirates, and shameless cooks hoarding their wealth to themselves. They even trap innocent little forest creatures for no reason other than to harass them. The only way to stand up for the little guys, gals, and vermin of the kingdom is to steal from the rich what, presumably, isn't theirs. That much isn't clear. Like I said, the entire world's corrupt. Regardless, only you can save the kingdom.

Tiny Thief is a point-and-click puzzle game. It's not the usual adventure game, as levels are chopped up and served in fun-sized chunks familiar to anyone who has played Angry Birds or basically any mobile game released since.

Tiny Thief Is The First Rovio Stars Game For Android, Due To Hit Google Play July 11

You've played Angry Birds. Regardless of how you feel about that insanely popular title, there's no denying that Rovio is one of the largest names in mobile gaming. That's why it was a big deal when they announced their Rovio Stars initiative to publish titles produced by third-party developers. Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage was the first game to come from this program, but it is currently only available for iOS. Tiny Thief will thus be the first game to hit our platform of choice. We don't know much about the title, but it seems to cover Link's exploits after he abandons rescuing Princess Zelda and decides to satiate his barely dormant hunger for rupees.
