If you're old enough to have been around for the coolest parts of the 20th century, you know Duck Hunt. I don't need to explain this, do I? No. You know all about the bright orange gun and that annoying little dog and getting frustrated and walking right up to the screen and shooting an 8-bit duck point blank in the pixel. This is your childhood. And now, it's on your phone in a fantastic clone that utilizes the gyroscope in the best possible way.

Ignoring for just a moment the silly AR mode (which actually didn't work very well when I tried it), Duck Retro Hunt has one advantage over the myriad of Duck Hunt clones on the Play Store: instead of using a touch screen, you have to aim your phone in a gyroscope-powered virtual world to shoot the little birds.

Roller Coaster Tycoon And Dungeons And Dragons: Warbands Are Coming To Android In 2013

Fans of old-school classics, gather round and feast your eyes! Atari has announced that two of its high-value properties will be coming to Android in 2013. First on the list is the retro hit Roller Coaster Tycoon. If you were around in the late 90s (and we assume most of our readers are over the age of 12), you might remember that there were two kinds of simulation games back then: Sim games from Maxis, and everyone else. At the top of that gleaming mountain of "everything else" was Roller Coaster Tycoon.

[New Game] Iron Crusade Brings Nostalgic, 8-Bit, Worms-like Gameplay To Your Mobile Device

I don't care how good graphics get - mobile, console, or PC - there's something that I absolutely love about the old-school Nintendo feel. Perhaps the 8-bit look and feel reminds me of my childhood, or maybe because it's just so simplistic. Whatever the reason, throwback-style games like the newly-released Iron Crusade are always welcome on my devices.

There's no denying that Iron Crusade draws inspiration from the classics of yesteryear, albeit with a modern day twist. The game features turn-based gameplay, realistic physics, 22 levels, fully upgradable weapons and tanks, varying enemies and bosses with each level, 15 different achievements, and, my personal favorite: fully destructible environments.

[New Game] Another World 20th Anniversary Edition Now Available In The Play Store

Late last month, we heard that the 20th anniversary edition of the cult classic platformer Another World (also known as Out of this World) would be coming to Android on March 16th. If you happened to check the calendar today, then you would know that today is, in fact, the 16th. If you combine the information from the first two sentences of this post, then there is only one possible conclusion: Another World 20th Anniversary Edition is out today!  #winning

This throwback game is brought into the modern day with features like HD graphics (which can be toggled in real time by sliding two fingers across the screen - how cool is that?), intuitive touch controls, remastered sounds and sound effects, OpenFeint integration, and optimization for Xperia Play devices.

[New Game] Konami Brings Its Old School-Style RPG 'Ash' To Android, Available Now In The Android Market

If you're a fan of old school turn-based RPGs, then you're going to love the game Konami just dropped into the Android Market: a throwback to the days of 16-bit  console gaming called Ash.

The game puts you in the crumbling Empire of Aghaus, and follows the story of a pair of mercenaries after a "routine contract takes an unexpected turn" and throws them into the middle of a war that "consumes the entire continent." Sounds pretty intense.

[LOL Of The Day: Throwback Edition] 2009 PCMag Article Asks "Has Android Already Failed?"

First off, this is all in good fun. Any intelligent person could draw the conclusions this author did based on what was happening at the time, and with the limited information available about Google's plans for Android. We're posting this because it's funny to look back on it with some hindsight.

Back in 2009, Android's fate was anything but decided in the eyes of the tech journalism world, and many took a dismal view of Google's purchase of the young upstart open-source mobile operating system. What could Google, a website, possibly do with a mobile phone OS? This 2009 PCMag article, titled "Has Android Already Failed?" has some real gems, including speculation that Android is doomed, and, in what is news to us, headed to netbooks:

Android's proponents, including Google CEO Eric Schmidt, now seem to be turning their attention to netbooks.

A new round of games that incorporate one of my favorite Android services, OpenFeint, has recently been released. We've gotten our all-too-idle hands on several of these games and, let me tell you, some impressive things are being brought to the table.  While flipping through the games and wasting all of my time, one game stuck out to me. Maybe it was the nostalgic feel of it. Maybe it was the Indiana Jones throwback feeling of it. Maybe it was because I really like being able to flaunt my high score to the world. Whatever the reason, I'm a big fan of this game; so much so, in fact, that I made a video of me playing and talking about it.
